Lin Fei acted surprised upon seeing them.

"Oh. What a coincidence to see you two here. Is class over? But it’s still too early for classes to end. Did you perhaps skip?"

Bei Sangyun thought: Was it really a coincidence?

She led Fei Chuan away from Lin Fei’s table. "It’s none of your business."

"Oh, come on. I have plenty of seats at my table. Let’s eat together."

Bei Sangyun ignored him.

"Aww. I’m being ignored. My friend Fei Chuan, surely you won’t ignore me like my little cousin does, will you? After all, we’ve already been acquainted."

Bei Sangyun paused.

Fei Chuan and Lin Fei have met already? When?

She turned to glance at Fei Chuan, who had a cold look on his face as he stared at Lin Fei. He wasn’t denying Lin Fei’s words.

Bei Sangyun turned sharply to Lin Fei. He ignored her warning.

Lin Fei met her glare and raised his hands in surrender. "I did nothing, we just talked. Right, my friend Fei Chuan?"

Fei Chuan turned to Bei Sangyun. "Let’s go eat with him. He is so lonely and pathetic that he’s making a fuss about eating alone."

Lin Fei and Bei Sangyun: "..."

The three sat together.

There wasn’t much to talk about with Lin Fei around. The atmosphere wasn’t harmonious. However, the latter did not think so.

"So, did you two skip class to go on a date?"

"Have you two decided to make it official?"

"What are your plans?"

The two remained silent and ignored him. Lin Fei just smiled and changed the subject.

Shameless as he was, despite not getting any responses to his questions, he remained in a gleeful mood.

But Bei Sangyun wasn’t.

If Lin Fei weren’t around, she and Fei Chuan could have spent time alone being lovey-dovey. Their precious lunch time was wasted on him.

The food finally arrived.

Fei Chuan instinctively took a bit of everything from Bei Sangyun’s dishes and handed the chopsticks he used to her. She happily accepted them and began eating. In between bites, she placed some dishes on Fei Chuan’s plate.

Their actions were practiced and natural.

Lin Fei went silent as he watched the two. His smile grew stiff, and the dish in front of him suddenly looked unappetizing.

He leaned back in his chair and scoffed, "You two look like newlyweds. If someone didn’t know your backgrounds, they might think you’re set to marry each other."

Bei Sangyun paused and gave him a cold look. "Whether we decide to marry or not is up to us. We’re young, so we have time to figure it out. Unlike you, aren’t you at the age where you’re supposed to have found your fiancée?"

"Father can’t decide which lady from the great families is fit to be my fiancée, so I have nothing to worry about. However, my dear cousin, although our family hasn’t chosen a fiancée for you, isn’t it different for your boyfriend?"

Lin Fei glanced at Fei Chuan. "What do the Fei and Chuan families say about this? Or—" He smirked, "Do the Fei and Chuan families have no idea yet that their son is dating a Lin?"

Bei Sangyun slammed her chopsticks hard on the table. "It’s none of your concern."

Fei Chuan handed her another clean set of chopsticks. He glanced at Lin Fei. "The Fei and Chuan families have no say in whom I date."

Lin Fei scoffed. "You can say that because you think the two families have no use for you. But once the Fei or Chuan family decides where to place you, you won’t have any freedom—not even to choose your own partner."

"Are you talking about yourself?" Fei Chuan retorted with a smirk. "I won’t be as powerless as you when the time comes."

Lin Fei squinted his eyes. Like last time, he felt that this Fei Chuan had many secrets. He appeared fragile and aloof, but Lin Fei knew from their last encounter that he was a young lion who would attack and kill his prey once grown.

He gave off worse vibes than Lin Zhe.

Lin Fei smiled with no warmth in his eyes. "I’ll be looking forward to it then. I wonder, when that time comes, if you’ll still have my cousin in your heart. Who knows, this might just be your libido talking."

"Lin Fei!" Bei Sangyun narrowed her eyes warningly. Lin Fei was crossing the line.

She stood up and tugged at Fei Chuan. "Let’s go. My appetite is gone. There’s no need to give him face."

Fei Chuan stood up and gave one long glance at Lin Fei. The two then left.

Lin Fei was left at the table. There was only silence for a long time before he burst into laughter.

He believed he was being kind by advising them and revealing the reality of the society they lived in. The two were too young to understand. Nevertheless, when they broke up, his little toy would understand what he meant.

However, she might be heartbroken then.

Well, it didn’t matter. He was kind and patient enough to fix up his favorite toy.

Lin Fei picked up his chopsticks and took a bite of the cold dish. He winced.

Food that went cold was really unappetizing.

The two walked out of the restaurant.

Bei Sangyun suddenly paused and turned to Fei Chuan. "When did the two of you meet?"

"After our last date."

Bei Sangyun pouted. "I called you that night, and we talked for hours. Why didn’t you mention it to me?"

Fei Chuan avoided her stare. "...Because I didn’t think it was important enough..."

Bei Sangyun narrowed her eyes suspiciously at him.

Fei Chuan sighed. "I didn’t want to mention him to you. We only have limited time when we talk at night. I didn’t want him to be our topic for the entire night." He would rather talk about what they had for dinner than about Lin Fei.

Bei Sangyun’s eyebrow jumped. Fei Chuan’s answer made sense. She didn’t want to waste time talking about Lin Fei either.

However...

"I know what you mean. But next time, if the two of you meet again, can you tell me?"

Fei Chuan nodded.

Bei Sangyun finally smiled. Her steps became lighter as she asked again, "So, what did the two of you talk about?"

Fei Chuan avoided her gaze. "...Nothing much."

Bei Sangyun continued to gaze at him.

Fei Chuan sweated. "....It’s about you."

"So I am ’nothing much’?"

Fei Chuan: "...."

This made him sweat more. "It’s about you and the ’nothing much.’" He corrected himself.

"What is this ’nothing much’?"

Fei Chuan: "...."

Bei Sangyun squinted her eyes. She seemed determined to get an answer from him.

"...He just came to warn me and said a bunch of nonsense, like watching me with hawk eyes. He said I’m not sincere with you, that we don’t match, that we will break up, things like that."

Bei Sangyun’s eyes turned cold. "...You should have told me that earlier. I should have poisoned his food. Or at least punched him in the face."

Bei Sangyun turned around, seeming ready to return to the restaurant to actually punch Lin Fei.

Fei Chuan stopped her. "It’s alright. Don’t waste your time on him."

Bei Sangyun grit her teeth. Her relationship with Fei Chuan was not yet set in stone. It was like fragile glass that might break with a bit of heat. She was doing her best to make Fei Chuan stay in this one-month relationship and extend it indefinitely.

But what if his conversation with Lin Fei affected him and made him resolute in breaking up with her?

She couldn’t allow outside forces to affect this precious relationship when they hadn’t figured out the rest yet.

Bei Sangyun took his hand. "Don’t be affected by anything he said. He is very callous and meddlesome. He likes to play with people, stir up their emotions, and make a mess of them."

Fei Chuan met her worried eyes. Lin Fei’s words echoed in his mind. He squeezed her hand. "I am not easily swayed by the likes of him. Don’t worry."

Bei Sangyun stared at him. Although the current Fei Chuan was a man of few words, he had a will of steel, and his stubborn thoughts wouldn’t be easily shaken. She had worked so hard to woo him, which was already enough proof that his mind wasn’t fragile.

Bei Sangyun’s mind was finally at peace. "...I trust you. If you ever break up with me because of someone like him, I will be really angry."

Fei Chuan smiled and nodded.

He had seen different sides of Bei Sangyun during this time and enjoyed every moment they spent together. He liked her more each day and found it very novel every time he learned something new about her.

He didn’t want this joy to end.

At that moment, the one-month limit he had set for this relationship did not even cross his mind.

The two walked hand in hand.

Bei Sangyun was happy to hold Fei Chuan’s hand. They were in public, yet Fei Chuan didn’t seem to mind. Or had he forgotten? Whatever the case, Bei Sangyun wouldn’t remind him.

They would walk together hand in hand until they reached school!

"...Your cousin Lin Fei, what is he like to you?" Fei Chuan suddenly asked out of the blue.

Bei Sangyun’s gaze became complicated.

What was Lin Fei like to her?

This was a question that even she found hard to answer.
