Sovereign of the Ashes-Chapter 1448: Last Gasp
Sein’s overwhelming display of power in Radbow World sent the morale of the Magus World legions soaring.
Meanwhile, the native creatures grew restless as they sensed the plane’s radiation levels plummeting. Fear spread like wildfire.
On the planar battlefields, almost all of the fighting was carried out by the lower-tier legions of both sides.
Even so, the outcome of battles between law-wielding beings always decided the direction of the war.[1]
When even “god-tier” beings fell, how could the lesser creatures, who clung to faith, find the will to keep fighting?
Sein unleashed a colossal surge of elemental energy.
BOOM!
Under the horrified stares of billions, the innermost of Radbow’s three planar rings came crashing down toward the world below.
The Magus Civilization had deployed only a few combat units in that inner ring, and those who were there quickly retreated once they felt the crushing pressure of Sein’s magic.
The enemy, however, had concentrated far too many forces there. With so many radioactive creatures of varying strength there, only a few managed to flee in time.
As the broken ring fell from the sky, countless weaker creatures were doomed to become its sacrifices.
Huff... huff...
Having just unleashed a forbidden spell, Sein exhaled softly. The spell had drained a considerable amount of his power, but he was still far from spent.
His gaze turned toward the direction the crimson beam had come from.
A pair of demonic wings formed behind him, condensed by pure elemental power.
Activating his demonic lawful form, Sein launched himself straight toward the Rank Four Eye Demon’s location.
Tychus, who was watching from nearby, froze for a moment at the sight of Sein’s combat style. That brief lapse gave his opponent the opening it needed to strike him squarely in the chest.
That burst of radiation caused the muscles around his ribs to start shrinking rapidly.
Tychus swung his twin halberds with practiced fury.
It was an unusual choice of weapon, and the bloodline transformation he invoked did not resemble any that Sein had seen before.
The Astral Realm was truly vast and boundless. No one could ever fully uncover the number of mighty species and civilizations it contained.
Even within the Magus Civilization, countless allied races remained a mystery to Sein. There were still many realms and worlds waiting for him to explore someday.
“Forget about the other battlefields, go reinforce Master Sein immediately!” Tychus ordered the two allied gods fighting in Radbow World.
The chain of command on this plane placed Sein at the top, followed by Tychus, then the two allied gods.
Upon receiving Tychus’ command, the Rank Four allied gods could only abandon their own battlefronts for the moment and rush to Sein’s location.
Their legions, along with the ones under Sein and Tychus, began converging on Sein’s position in a massive push.
This showed why Rank Four beings were the weathervanes of any interplanar battlefield.
At the front, Sein—already deep in the offensive—had no intention of waiting for the allied gods’ help.
As he pressed toward the Rank Four Eye Demon, threats kept erupting from beneath the scorched ground.
There was a reason Radbow World had held out this long against the Magus Civilization’s assault.
Though only a low-level plane, its radioactive creatures had learned to make full use of their homefield advantage.
Towering metal spires, each hundreds of meters tall, periodically unleashed beams of radiation across the battlefield.
The Magus Civilization legions at the front had taken the brunt of it before, but now those beams turned toward Sein himself.
A single blast or two barely affected him.
His magic robe and the innate resilience of his lawful body offered significant resistance against foreign radiation particles. Years of relentless body-tempering experiments had also further hardened him.
But as the number and intensity of those radiation beams multiplied, even Sein began to feel their effects.
At the same time, two massive streams of radiation-based law energy surged up from the rear of Radbow’s native legions.
That seemed to be where the navel of the plane was.
Both streams of law power merged into the bodies of the two Rank Four radioactive creatures fighting on the frontlines.
Their grotesque bodies mutated even further, and their strength spiked sharply in an instant.
“Huh? Looks like that strike to the core didn’t hurt you as much as I thought,” Sein muttered at the planar will. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
No, in truth, his earlier attack had dealt a heavy blow to it!
The planet’s core had been pierced, and one of the three planar rings above its surface had been obliterated. The blow definitely damaged Radbow World’s planar laws and environment.
Now, the planar will poured what remained of its law power into its two native Rank Four creatures. It was the desperate last gasp from this world’s fading essence.
From this point on, Radbow Plane’s decline was irreversible!
Sensing the surrounding radiation levels drop several degrees lower, Sein burst out laughing.
No matter how strong a low-level plane’s will might be, it was still just a low-level plane. There was no such thing as infinite potential.
The two Rank Four radioactive creatures, however, surged with renewed strength after being infused with the plane’s origin energy.
Yuri was still holding her own for now, but Tychus, who had been fighting in interplanar wars for years and never fully healed from his old wounds, was beginning to falter.
After all, this was enemy territory, and Tychus had done more than enough. He had already played a key role in the earlier assault that took down the peak Rank Four Eye Demon.
Sein lifted his head again. Through the Faceless Mask, he locked his eyes on the Rank Four Eye Demon that had attempted to ambush him earlier.
The creature was fast, but its attack had failed to land, and it had already retreated deep behind the ranks of radioactive creatures and the Eye Demon legion.
It knew exactly what it was up against. After witnessing Sein unleash a forbidden spell, reveal his demonic form, and effortlessly deflect its void beam, the creature understood that this was not a fight it could easily win.
Any other Rank Four mage would have been sensible enough to withdraw by now and regroup with Tychus and the others to finish off the two empowered radioactive creatures.
But Sein was not about to let this Rank Four Eye Demon flee!
The thought of countless Magus World knights and mages who had fallen to these Eye Demons’ ambushes burned in his mind.
The image of his wife, Natalya, lying gravely wounded by those same monsters only fueled his fury.
He needed something to unleash it on, and the Rank Four Eye Demon before him would do just fine.
1. Translator’s Notes: I have received several feedback that “Rank Four and above” is too wordy, and this novel tends to repeat it often. So from now on, this will simply be changed to “law-wielding beings/powerhouses/creatures”. Thank you everyone for the input and suggestions! ☜
