Souls Online: Mythic Ascension-Chapter 423: Difference in League
Jamie was surprised at Leo’s sudden shift in attitude. Why was he so angry all of a sudden.
Almost by instinct, Jamie launched themselves backwards as they looked at Leo with a look of confusion and apprehension. A droplet of cold sweat ran down their back as the murderous intent wafting from Leo filled the room.
"I asked you a question....what did you just say?....I’m the King of what?!". Jamie wanted to say something but their voice didn’t come out. Or it couldn’t as he realized that he was terrified.
His legs were trembling as Leo’s green eyes burned with utter rage. Rachel had known that Jamie would have said something that would annoy Leo, but she had failed to realize that the people on a lower than themselves would view his rage the same way a mouse would view a cat.
Jamie started to hyper ventilate when when his brother Morgan appeared in front of him, blocking him from Leo’s gaze.
"Leo. That’s enough. He didn’t mean anything bad by it!" Morgan shouted as he took a stance against him. He looked relatively calm on the surface but deep down he was anxious.
Leo was the centre of the group of he had just joined and if he was stronger than Lily, than he was in some serious trouble if Leo decided to attack.
However, the one who was most confused was Leo. He hadn’t expected Jamie to freak out like that when he lost his temper nor did he expect Morgan to act like he had lost his cool.
Yes while he was pissed off at the idea of being labelled the ’King of Femboys’, it wasn’t Jamie’s fault and actually was asking again because he was desparately hoping that he had misheard.
He glanced at Adam and Greg who looked a little concerned at the situation but were also unsure why the reactions were like that.
Freed from Leo’s gaze, Jamie felt like they could breathe again.
Jamie’s chest heaved as he tried to steady his breathing. His heart was still hammering, the memory of that crushing pressure fresh in his mind. Morgan kept a protective stance in front of him, though it was clear Leo had already calmed down.
Leo frowned, watching Jamie’s trembling hands and pale face. "I didn’t... do anything," he said quietly, almost to himself. "I just got angry."
"Yeah," Morgan replied, his tone firm but not accusatory, "and that was enough."
Leo blinked, realization slowly dawning. He turned his eyes toward Adam and Greg, who were both watching him carefully. The tension in the air had started to thin, but he could still feel how heavy it had been moments ago.
He hadn’t meant to release anything. But if his emotions alone had been enough to cause that kind of reaction... then maybe it wasn’t just anger they’d felt. It was power leaking through instinct.
Jamie finally took a deep breath and straightened up, though his voice was still shaky when he spoke. "S-sorry. I didn’t mean to freak out like that." He forced a small, uneasy laugh. "Guess I kinda lost control of myself there."
Leo shook his head. "No, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have let my temper get the better of me."
Jamie hesitated, then said softly, "No... you don’t get it. You’re just... different." 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Leo tilted his head slightly. "Different?"
Jamie nodded, his expression a mix of fear and admiration. "Yeah. You’re in another league entirely. When you got mad, it didn’t even feel human. It was like the air itself was warning me not to move."
Morgan’s frown deepened as he kept his defensive stance. "What are you talking about? I didn’t sense anything like that."
Jamie peeked from behind his brother’s shoulder, his face still pale. His breathing had mostly calmed, but the fear in his eyes hadn’t completely left. "You didn’t? he asked quietly. "Are you close to his level?! I’m only Level 12!"
"I’m Level 20...." Morgan remarked with a hint of confusion on his face. He failed to understand what he meant.
Adam’s eyebrow twitched. "Oomph?"
Jamie nodded frantically, trying to find the words. "Yeah! Like... when someone super high-level gets mad, the System kinda goes all ’warning, warning, you’re a squishy bug,’ and your body just reacts. You know? Like... uh... like a cat meeting a tiger. You know it’s still a cat, but also not a cat, because it could end you in one swipe."
Everyone stared at him in silence.
Ethan tilted his head. "That’s the most confusing thing I’ve ever heard."
Leo blinked, clearly lost. "What?"
Jamie pointed toward him as if that would help. "You! You’re like... you’re that tiger! You got mad and my brain was like, ’nope, not doing this,’ and then my legs turned into jelly noodles."
Adam rubbed his temples. "I’m going to pretend I understood that."
Morgan sighed, his hand dropping from his weapon as he tried to translate. "What he’s trying to say is that the System amplifies instinctual reactions between players based on level disparity. The stronger someone is, the more their presence can suppress or pressure those below them. Jamie’s body just reacted on instinct to how strong Leo is compared to him."
Leo blinked. "That’s... actually a thing?"
Morgan thought about it for a moment before remarking "Think of it like how we met the Gods. Their presences were strong. I imagine what my brother experienced was essentially a watered down version of what we would experience if we pissed one of them off."
Jamie’s eyes brightened. "Yes! Exactly! That’s what I meant! See, he gets me!"
Leo, Adam, and Ethan turned to Morgan with matching looks of disbelief.
Adam finally spoke. "You actually got all that from whatever he just said?"
Ethan crossed his arms. "That sounded like gibberish to me."
Leo nodded. "Same."
Greg chuckled under his breath. "He grew up with that."
Morgan’s lips curved into a wry smile. "You pick up the language eventually."
Jamie puffed up his cheeks in protest. "You guys are so rude! Keep that up and I might start resenting you, Greg."
Greg arched a brow, his tone perfectly flat. "You promise?"
Jamie tried to keep a stern face but cracked almost immediately, his pout turning into a teasing grin. "Nah. I could never ignore a muscular hottie like you, Greggy."
There was a short pause before a quiet tch slipped from Greg’s mouth, followed by a muttered, "Fuck."
Leo’s eyes widened slightly. He hadn’t expected that reaction from Greg, though it told him everything he needed to know.
When it came to this so called Streamer, Greg was definitely not a fan
