Sons of a devil-Chapter 58: Through the flames
Chapter 58 - Through the flames
The air was thick with the scent of ash and sulfur. The path ahead was no longer just a road—it was a trial. Charred trees reached up like skeletal hands, and the sky burned with a crimson hue that refused to fade. Cain walked at the front, his hand firmly clasping Selene's, her steps limping but steady after the last battle.
Leo and Eren flanked the sides, scanning the surroundings. Ever since Selene had gotten hurt, Cain hadn't let her out of his sight. His protective instincts were sharpened, every breath he took feeling like a countdown toward something inevitable.
"I swear," Leo muttered, "if one more flaming skeleton charges out of nowhere, I'm going to set myself on fire."
"I'd pay to see that," Eren replied with a smirk. "Be a great show before the end of the world."
Selene chuckled despite the pain. "You're all idiots. But I love you guys."
Cain looked at her, his eyes soft. "Even me?"
"Especially you," she whispered.
They paused before the obsidian bridge. It arched high over a river of molten lava. Beyond it lay the ruined gate to their father's domain. The Hellspire Fortress loomed behind it, spiked towers disappearing into the thick red mist.
Leo pressed his hand to the bridge. "This wasn't here last time. He's changing the realm. Preparing."
Eren frowned. "Preparing for us or... for something else?"
Cain remained quiet. He could feel it—his father's power. It wasn't just demonic anymore. It was corrupted. Twisted. Almost... afraid.
They crossed slowly. The air vibrated, whispering in their ears. Names. Secrets. Warnings. Eira's voice echoed among them like a ghost, her sacrifice still fresh.
"She died protecting us," Leo said, his voice tight. "We won't waste that."
"No," Cain agreed. "We finish what we started. We end him."
As they reached the gates, a shockwave threw them back. A creature emerged—giant, skeletal wings and a body wrapped in black flame. It hissed their names.
"I am the Warden of the First Circle. Only one may pass."
Cain stepped forward, but Selene grabbed his arm.
"You're not doing this alone."
He looked at her, then at his brothers. "We do this together."
Leo charged first, his body engulfed in lightning. He leapt onto the creature's back, stabbing his twin daggers deep into its spine. Eren followed, transforming mid-air into his full demonic form, claws glowing, eyes burning like twin suns.
Cain whispered to Selene, "Stay back. Please. For me."
She hesitated, then nodded. "Don't die."
Cain joined the fray, his blade slicing through cursed flame. The battle was brutal. Each brother pushed themselves to their limits, fighting not just for survival but for justice—for Eira, for their mother, for the people their father had destroyed.
Selene, unable to watch from the sidelines, drew her blade. When the creature slammed Leo against the gate, she lunged, stabbing upward into its heart. It shrieked as it fell into ash.
The gate creaked open slowly.

On the other side stood their mother—eyes glowing, power pulsing from her hands. Her voice rang out. "You cannot face him yet. He's not the same devil you were born from. He's worse. Let me show you the truth."
The brothers froze. Cain stepped forward, blood running from his brow. "Then tell us. Because we're going to end him."
She looked at them—her boys—and nodded. "Then come. You need to see what he has become."
The gates of Hell closed behind them, and a deeper story unfolded.
