Single Wish: Rise Of The Omniscient Paragon-Chapter 619 : 618: The Altar of Hell
Hearing the whispers and the songs.
Seeing the murals of his past, present, and future which was his destiny.
The sight of the beyond and incomparable Throne before him.
All of these planted a seed of desire and pride in his heart. No. To be more accurate, Corey always had this pride and desire in his heart.
It was just that he always controlled this desire and pride because he knew what uncontrolled desire and pride could cause.
He always had this belief deep in his heart that he was destined to be an extremely powerful figure. Maybe even a figure that would be comparable to the Supreme Ancestor and the Paragon Ancestor.
After he became a Demi-Paragon, he became more proud, especially as he got stronger. Paragons were prideful beings, and all with the blood of a Paragon, all with the blood of the Defying Paragon was destined for greatness.
However,
'You can't rush greatness.'
This was a lesson his father told him multiple times in the past when he was struggling to learn how to play the piano and dance.
Surprisingly, it was these words of his father that helped him to ignore the allure of this Temple.
Deep within his soul and being, he knew that if he sat on the Throne, he would gain power beyond his imagination. However, he knew nothing about the consequences.
After steeling his mind which was being strongly influenced by the strange powers in the Temple, he walked past the Throne, and there he saw a door which led outside the Temple.

Before leaving the Temple, he took one more look at the murals, the Throne, and every single thing in the Temple. It took him all he had to ignore the temptations of the Temple.
He walked out of the Temple, and the moment he did, the influence on his mind vanished.
Without taking a single glance at the Temple again, Corey continued his journey to the Mountain of Giza.
He faced a lot of other challenges on his way to the Mountain of Giza, and by the end of these challenges, Corey had changed.
His clothes were tattered, and his back was hunched. Blood and sweat dripped down his body as he stood at the base of the Mountain of Giza.
His hair was rough and long, and his face was extremely dirty and had cuts on it which were slowly healing.
The skeleton on his back now had the weight of a small mountain, and if one looked at Corey's chest where the hands of the skeleton were, he or she would notice that the fingers of the skeleton were inside Corey's chest.
The ground beneath his feet had cracks on it that were continuously getting larger with every second that passed.
Corey glanced at the mountain in front of him, and then he shifted his gaze to his chest. His violet-blue blue eyes reflected the sight of the skeleton's fingers that were in his chest.
Not only were the skeleton's fingers in his chest, he could feel its fingers around his heart.
'Even though I didn't fall for any of the temptations and challenges I faced, the weight of the skeleton kept on increasing.'
'It currently weighs as much as a mountain, and every step I takes so much from me.'
'In fact, I almost accepted the help of the Marked because of the skeleton.'
'If the skeleton is this heavy despite me ignoring and not falling for every single temptation that was thrown my way, then how heavy would it have been if I fell for every temptation?'
'Just the thought of it sends shivers down my spine.'
Corey exhaled softly, and then he glanced at the skeleton's head. A wide grin could be seen on the skeleton's head, and the sight of it was extremely horrifying.
The skeleton was now completely black, and the warning signals he was receiving from his instincts towards the skeleton was immense.
Corey took in a deep breath, and then he moved closer to the Mountain of Giza.
The Mountain of Giza had no path that led to the top. Instead, he had to climb to the top.
Corey looked up, and then he began climbing a mountain with the weight of a mountain on his back.
As Corey climbed, he expected to face an attack of some sort, a temptation, a distraction, or a sudden increase in the weight of the skeleton.
He expected any of these as he climbed the mountain with sweat and blood dripping from his body, but to his surprise, nothing of happened to him.
He faced no attack, no temptation, no distraction, and no sudden increase in the weight of the skeleton. He faced no surprises when he climbed the Mountain of Giza, and he was extremely surprised, wary, and relieved at the same time.
When he reached the top of the Mountain of Giza, he sprawled himself on the ground while exhaling and inhaling deeply with sweat pouring down his face.
"Hahhh. God damn it. I hate this Tribulation."
Corey cursed out loud, and then he groaned with a slightly pained and frustrated expression as he got to his feet.
He looked around, and then his eyes landed on the Altar of Hell. When he did, his eyes widened in disbelief and confusion.
The Altar of Hell was a massive slab carved from a single obsidian-like stone. It's surface was slick and uneven, as if something had melted and reformed it a thousand times over. Deep cracks ran through the stone, and these cracks pulsed with a faint, sinister glow.
The glow was not red, not orange, but a sickly, burning crimson that seemed alive. The moment Corey's eyes landed on the Altar, a strange pressure appeared in his chest, and Corey could sense that this pressure was from the skeleton on his back.
Corey's gaze became cold as his senses observed every single action and movement of the skeleton. He wanted to be sure that the skeleton would not just suddenly increase his weight and kill him, or it would grip his heart and kill him.
Fortunately, the skeleton did nothing, and Corey knew that the skeleton was somewhat agitated due to the presence of the Altar.
Surrounding the Altar were twisted statues. These statues were massive but their forms were frozen in eternal agony. Some had hollow, empty eye sockets, others had jagged, broken wings, and their bodies were bound in chains that rattled and groaned despite the lack of wind.
Each statue faced the altar with their heads bowed, as if worshipping something unseen... something waiting.
The ground around the altar was not solid. It looked like cracked stone, but Corey knew it was not. In his eyes, he felt like the ground around the altar was breathing.
Corey looked up, and the sight of the sky above was what truly baffled him.
Above, the sky churned like a living being. Fire and shadow twisted together in an endless vortex.
Hanging from the sky and stretching endlessly into the abyss above, were countless chains of molten black metal. They didn't swing, they didn't move with the wind. They simply hung there, still and waiting, as if they had been left behind by something too great to comprehend.
At the very center of the sky was a symbol that burned bright.
It resembled a rune, but at the same time, it didn't resemble a rune. Corey felt like it was a rune, but the rune was one of the strangest runes he had ever encountered.
Although he had no idea if it was a rune or not, he strangely understood what it meant.
