Shota's Isekai NTR Adventure-Chapter 1459: Corruption of greed
I was naturally taken aback when I heard what Vivrum said.
For a god to ask for help from a mortal like me, there was no doubt that the matter that she was asking for would certainly be something big.
As such, it wasn't as if I could agree that easily.
But there was the fact that there was no hiding anything from the gods in the first place.
This was something that I forgot every time…
"It's not something that big. It's something that only you can do because you're the only one in the position to do so."
Hearing her read my thoughts again put a bitter smile on my face, but I gave a nod in response and waited for her to tell me what it was.
Only after listening to what it was would I make a decision on this matter.
"It's a long story." There was a tired sigh that came from Vivrum after she said this which made me knit my brows again.
Something that a god called a 'long story' was certainly anything but that. It would certainly be something that was much more than just a normal long story.
"I'm sure that you have already noticed how the elves have been acting strangely." Vivrum suddenly said this in a slow voice that caught me off guard.
This wasn't what I had expected her to open with and I couldn't help slightly knitting my brows when hearing it, but I slowly gave a nod in response.
"It's not hard for people to notice this as long as they know anything about the elves. It's just that there's no one that has done anything to stop it because they are powerless to stop it. It's not something that can be easily reversed either."
The way that Vivrum said this, it really seemed like she was deeply bothered by whatever she was referring to.
For something to be called hard to reverse by a god, it certainly seemed like it was a big matter.
"They've been corrupted by greed."
"Huh?" I couldn't help saying in a confused voice.
I didn't really understand what she meant by this.
Corrupted by greed…
I would have understood if she said that they had been corrupted by the powers of destruction, but to be corrupted by greed. It was hard to imagine what kind of greed would be able to corrupt the elves that were supposed to be the embodiment of freedom.
In the end, the story was very simple.
The elves could isolate themselves from the world, but it was impossible for them to completely isolate themselves from the world. Even if the elves wanted to, it was impossible since the world was growing around them.
As such, there was more and more interaction between the elves and the humans.
With more interaction between the two races, it was only natural that they would learn from each other.
Though the ones that were more influenced were the elves.
They saw the things that the humans had done and wanted them as well.
It was just that there were some of them that were taken over by their desire for the same thing as the humans.
"I'm sure you're wondering why I have a problem with this. After all, if people don't change, then they'll be erased eventually, right?"
I was surprised once again to hear this, but I slowly gave a nod in response since this was exactly what I had been thinking. Once again, it seemed like the mind reading powers that the gods had had been used.
"It's not that I don't want the elves to change. To develop is a part of being a mortal and what form that takes depends on the mortals. If they develop as they should, I naturally would not have any objections. It's just that there's a problem with the elves. I'm sure that you have already noticed this."
I slowly gave a nod before raising a brow to question what exactly Vivrum meant by this.
There was a long silence that followed after she said this, but eventually she said, "The problem is the current Elven King."
"Huh?" I was once again shocked to hear this since this was not something that I expected to hear.
With the way that she said this, it was clear that there was something else that she was implying with these words.
After another silence, Vivrum said, "The current Elven King is the one that has been the most deeply corrupted by the greed that they've learned from the humans. He is the one that has caused the Elven Kingdom to fall into its current state. The longer that he is allowed free reign, the worse the situation in the Elven Kingdom."
But I didn't say anything in response to this.
After all, I felt that there was still something that she still wasn't telling me.
There was a silence that lingered in the air before Vivrum finally told me what I was looking for.
"You already guessed it, there is something different about him. The current Elven King was the illegitimate child of the previous Elven King, but also he was a child that was never supposed to be born."
I raised a brow as I asked, "What do you mean by that?"
The bomb dropped when she said, "He's the son of a high elf and a human, that's why he's much more susceptible to being corrupted by the greed of humans. It's part of who he is."
I didn't really pay attention to the latter half of what she said.
Rather, my attention was on the first half of what she said.
The son of a high elf and a human…
Was he even a high elf at that point?
"The high elf genes took precedence, so he has inherited most of the high elf bloodline and there's no problem with him being the Elven King…Well, other than the human parts of him causing trouble."
