Secretly Married to the Ice-Cold CEO-Chapter 405: Is This the Marriage You Wanted?
You Lifen fell to the ground, completely bewildered. When she opened her eyes, she saw Yu Zheng looking down at her.
The living room was pitch dark, with only a bit of light coming in from the skyscraper outside. This made Yu Zheng look especially tall and imposing, pressuring her immensely.
You Lifen couldn’t get up. She pulled the quilt over herself defensively and said, "Yu Zheng, although I’m beautiful, stunning, and voluntarily staying at your place, I’m not that kind of woman who can be taken lightly. You can’t sneak a peek at me just because it’s dark. At the very least, you have to be my boyfriend to have that right."
Yu Zheng’s mouth twitched. Him, sneaking a peek at her?
"My dear, I’m not interested in you at all, and by the way, your sleeping posture..." Yu Zheng looked at her from head to toe, "Which part of you can attract a normal man?"
"What’s wrong with my sleeping posture?"
With great effort, You Lifen climbed onto the sofa. Propping her head with her hand, she lay sideways, her long legs neatly together, pajamas arranged to highlight her sexy curves. One hand rested on her slender waist, and she looked up at him with an enchanting gaze at a forty-five degree angle, saying sweetly, "This is how I usually sleep."
Yu Zheng mercilessly exposed her: "Tired or not?"
"Not tired, very comfortable."
"Then keep on sleeping like that."
He went to the kitchen to fetch water but had barely taken two sips before he heard a door slam shut behind him. Turning around, he saw that the sofa was empty.
From within her room, You Lifen’s arrogant laughter echoed, "Your room has been taken over by me. It’s your turn to sleep on the sofa!"
Yu Zheng clenched his cup, his anger ultimately dissipating into a sigh.
Lying on the sofa, he realized bringing You Lifen back was a complete mistake, entirely a mistake!
Meanwhile, You Lifen lay on the soft bed, hugging a pillow and rolling around twice. Wow, it’s all Yu Zheng’s scent; how delightful!
She slept especially sweetly that night, giving the tall Yu Zheng some trouble. To facilitate his commute, he lived in a studio apartment with only one bedroom. Since he often traveled for work, he never bothered customizing the sofa, never imagining he’d end up sleeping there himself.
Yu Zheng barely managed to sleep through the night. At dawn, he knocked on the bedroom door, but You Lifen was still asleep.
Using a spare key, he opened the door to find You Lifen sprawled in a star shape on his bed, hugging his pillow.
This woman did sleep rather ungracefully, her movements too coarse, with her pajama collar wide open, revealing... cough, best not to stare at impolite sights.
Yu Zheng turned his head, opening the wardrobe to find clothes.
In her grogginess, You Lifen found the noise bothersome. By instinct, she threw the pillow and groaned, "Don’t make noise!"
The pillow hit Yu Zheng’s back. Turning around, he saw You Lifen roll over and mutter, "So sleepy... huff."
Yu Zheng had intended to throw the pillow back but, seeing her asleep, felt a twinge of compassion, placing the pillow back beside her.
Feeling the pillow, You Lifen hugged it again, rubbing her face against it a few times, sleepily murmuring, "Yu Zheng, have you gotten smaller?"
Yu Zheng’s forehead filled with black lines. Taking his clothes, he left the room, concluding that You Lifen’s brain must have a problem and she shouldn’t be approached too closely.
After getting ready, he drove to Gong Xiaoyu’s residential area to wait. He had thought things through; Zha Zhuoxin’s words made sense—secure the person first, and everything else would fall into place.
But before proceeding, he had one thing to clarify.
Gong Xiaoyu was surprised to get Yu Zheng’s call, thinking he’d stay mad for a few days. She didn’t expect him to contact her so soon.
Feeling increasingly guilty toward Yu Zheng, Gong Xiaoyu realized he was always so tolerant. Even during conflicts, it was him who took the initiative to reach out, making her feel she was giving too little to the relationship.
After getting into his car, Yu Zheng took her for breakfast.
Sitting in the cafe, Yu Zheng asked, "Did You Lifen tell me that you asked her to take good care of me? Is that true?"
Gong Xiaoyu put down her spoon. She wasn’t sure how to answer to please him, so she told the truth: "At that time, Jun Xi and Gu Yikun had a misunderstanding; she was really upset. I couldn’t just ignore her, so when You Lifen called, I said..."
"That you were too busy, so you asked her to take care of me?"
Gong Xiaoyu looked down at the table, "More or less."
Usually mild-tempered, Yu Zheng questioned her angrily for the first time: "Gong Xiaoyu, what are you thinking? You knew I was drunk and still felt safe leaving me with her? If something had happened between us... would that matter to you?"
Gong Xiaoyu replied, "If you did something wrong, I wouldn’t blame you. Yu Zheng, you know my past... If something happened between you and You Lifen, it would have just evened things out."
Her statement enraged Yu Zheng, who put down his chopsticks: "Gong Xiaoyu, are you saying that even if we get married and I cheat, you’d forgive me?"
"Of course not. After marriage, cheating is absolutely unacceptable. It’s about respecting your partner."
"Respect, and nothing else?"
"And..."
"And what?"
"Responsibility."
"Respect and responsibility—is that all you want from a marriage?"
Pushed by his relentless questioning, Gong Xiaoyu got angry too: "Yu Zheng, does it really matter? Most men would love their partner giving them freedom, and now that I’m giving you that, aren’t you satisfied?"
Frustrated, Yu Zheng’s fist clenched and then released, "In the end, you still can’t forget Yue Xiaoyang."
Gong Xiaoyu felt a sting in her heart, "Can we not talk about him?"
"Even if I don’t mention him, you still think about him. Do you dare admit it?"
Gong Xiaoyu grabbed her bag, "Yu Zheng, let’s take a break for a few days to cool down."
Yu Zheng held her hand, "Where are you going? Are you breaking up with me?"
Shocked by his forceful grip and abrupt action, Gong Xiaoyu noticed other customers looking their way, "Yu Zheng, don’t do this. Let’s just cool down for a few days."
Yu Zheng wanted to say something, but she said, "You’re hurting me."
Yu Zheng let go, and Gong Xiaoyu walked out with her bag, "I’ll take a cab to the office. Don’t worry about me."
Yu Zheng sat there, pondering why things had turned out this way, when all he wanted was to talk.
After a while, he left to get his car and then texted her, asking: Are you at the office?
Gong Xiaoyu replied: Yes.
He sent another message: Sorry, I didn’t handle my emotions well.
Leaning back in her chair, Gong Xiaoyu looked at her phone, unsure how to respond.
Whatever the case, it was always him who apologized first.
She couldn’t find any faults in him. She wanted to show him how much she cared, but it seemed no matter what she did, it wasn’t what he wanted.
After some deliberation, she replied: It’s not your fault; let’s both cool down for a few days.
She hit send, then put the phone aside and got back to work.
Lin Yuanqing, watching nearby, said, "Boss, I’ve got something to say, but I’m not sure if I should."
"Go ahead."
Lin Yuanqing hid by the door, prompting Gong Xiaoyu to say, "Are you scared I’ll hit you?"
