Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 88: Spencer Sawyer Returns to the Country
Wren Sutton closed her eyes, a guilty feeling washing over her as she pretended to rest. Her heart hammered like a drum; she had almost confessed.
’If Mom found out I was pregnant, she would absolutely refuse to let me get an abortion. And she would definitely tell Adrian Lancaster.’
And there was no way she could let Adrian Lancaster know she was pregnant.
"Mom, I’m not pregnant."
Mrs. Sutton was skeptical. "But your reaction just now..."
Wren Sutton opened her eyes, her expression carefully neutral. "I’m having digestive problems, it has nothing to do with being pregnant. I went to the hospital a few days ago. Adrian Lancaster went with me."
"Really?"
"Really." Wren Sutton nodded. "If you don’t believe me, you can call Adrian and ask him."
Since Wren had put it that way, Mrs. Sutton’s suspicions vanished, replaced by a wave of sympathy. She helped Wren back to her bed to rest.
「In the dead of night.」
Wren Sutton lay awake. She was exhausted, but sleep wouldn’t come. Her mind raced, and she couldn’t find any peace.
Frustrated, she sat up and leaned against the headboard. She stared blankly into the darkness, her mind consumed with thoughts of the divorce and the baby.
The minutes ticked by, a million thoughts racing through Wren Sutton’s mind. She finally drifted into a groggy sleep just before dawn and didn’t wake up until noon the next day.
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were out running errands, but they had left a meal and a note for their daughter.
After eating, Wren Sutton found she had nothing to do, so she decided to go back to her room and try to sleep more.
She had been lying in bed for less than five minutes when she received a call from the property management office at Amberwood Estates.
"Hello, Miss Sutton. This is someone from the Amberwood Estates property management office. Sorry to bother you."
The person’s tone was polite. Wren Sutton asked, "Hello, what is this regarding?"
"You haven’t paid this quarter’s property fee yet. The deadline is tomorrow, so we’re just calling to remind you to please pay it on time."
Wren Sutton had completely forgotten. With so much going on lately, she hadn’t given the place a second thought.
She said, slightly embarrassed, "I’ll come by this afternoon to pay it."
"Okay, see you in a bit."
"Goodbye."
Wren Sutton hung up. All thoughts of sleep were gone. She got up, got ready, and drove to Amberwood Estates.
When she arrived at the management office, she paid a full year’s worth of property fees at once, along with the water, electricity, and gas bills.
"Here’s your receipt, Miss Sutton. Please keep it safe."
"Thank you."
Wren Sutton took the receipt and was about to leave when a beautiful, fashionably dressed young woman sauntered up to the payment window, her hips swaying in high heels.
The woman had a stunning, curvaceous figure, and her makeup was flawless. She looked like an influencer.
"I’m here to pay the property fee." Her voice was sweet and soft, with a southern accent.
"Name of the homeowner?" the employee asked.
"Sean Sterling."
Wren Sutton froze.
She had heard it loud and clear; there was no mistaking it.
’As far as I know, Sean Sterling doesn’t live in this complex,’ she thought.
’Could it be a coincidence? Someone else with the same name?’
In that instant, a memory flashed through Wren Sutton’s mind.
She remembered now. She had seen Sean Sterling once before at Amberwood Estates.
That day, he had been driving a black Bentley, and she was in his car. They had gone to Xylos for dinner, where they ran into Adrian Lancaster and Maya Marshall.
Wren Sutton snapped back to the present just as the woman finished paying. The woman turned and brushed past her.
Wren Sutton finally got a clear look at the woman’s face. To her astonishment, she saw an unmistakable resemblance to Isla Griffith.
...
...
To avoid letting her pregnancy slip, Wren Sutton decided not to return to her parents’ house for now. Instead, she would stay at her place in Amberwood Estates for a few days.
The refrigerator at her apartment was empty, so she went to the supermarket and filled an entire shopping cart.
After paying, Wren Sutton pushed her cart toward the exit.
Just then, a deep, gentle voice called out tentatively from behind her, "Wren Sutton?"
Wren Sutton turned around.
The man’s face lit up in pleasant surprise. He walked toward her, a sincere and gentle smile on his face.
"It really is you! Long time no see. Do you remember me?"
Wren Sutton stared at his face, which was both strange and familiar, and racked her brain trying to remember.
A few seconds later... 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
