Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Heaven is Watching

Adrian’s composure shattered. Humiliated, his pride took a massive blow. πŸπ•£π•–πžπ°π•–πš‹π§π—ΌπšŸπžπ•.𝗰𝐨𝐦

"Wren Sutton!"

He had bought her flowers. Not only did she not thank him, but she had to bring up Maya Marshall in that sarcastic, passive-aggressive tone. She was being completely unreasonable.

"Just how long are you going to keep giving me the cold shoulder? I’ve been patient enough with you lately. Don’t push it."

Wren shot him a cold look. "So, I’m ’pushing it’ just because I don’t want your flowers?"

The two words "What else?" were written all over Adrian’s face.

"You said you like roses. If you like them, why don’t you want them?"

"Because I bought jasmine."

"What kind of reason is that?"

"A valid one."

"..."

The two bickered like schoolchildren, trading barbs back and forth, not giving an inch. They only stopped when passersby started walking past them.

Wren took a deep breath, trying to calm down. ’This is pointless,’ she thought. Holding her jasmine, she turned and walked away.

Adrian stood there with a dark expression. There was a trash can nearby, and he almost threw the roses into it.

...

Wren went back the way she came. Just as she was nearing the emergency department building, she came face-to-face with Maya Marshall in an electric wheelchair, with Mrs. Marshall accompanying her.

The mother and daughter saw Wren, too. They looked surprised for a moment, then stopped and met her gaze with hostility.

"..." Wren had no intention of engaging with them. She coldly averted her eyes and continued forward, heading up the steps toward the emergency building.

Maya felt a surge of annoyance at Wren’s cold, dismissive attitude.

"Wren Sutton, stop right there."

Wren pretended not to hear.

Maya wasn’t about to give up. She tried to provoke her. "The trial isn’t for another three days. Are you already too guilty to face me?"

Sure enough, Wren stopped and turned to look at Maya, her gaze firm and sharp.

"You’re the one who should feel guilty."

Maya snorted and retorted, "The evidence is conclusive. What do I have to feel guilty about? Don’t think you can win just because you hired some incredible lawyer."

Wren shot back, "So you admit Mr. Pierce is impressive. Then you must also know about his track recordβ€”he’s never lost a case in his entire career."

"Never losing before doesn’t mean he won’t lose when the trial starts in three days," Mrs. Marshall interjected, a sinister glint in her hostile eyes.

Maya had wanted to say the same thing. "Exactly."

Then, she followed up with a few more comments meant to put Wren down.

Wren remained calm, unaffected by Maya. She couldn’t be bothered to argue.

"The heavens are watching. The Marshall Family had better watch its step."

"Wren Sutton, you’d better watch *your* step."

The moment they finished speaking, Adrian’s deep, chilling voice demanded from behind them, "What are you two arguing about?"

He strode toward them, roses in hand, his expression sharp and imposing.

Maya turned her head. The moment she saw Adrian, her expression instantly softened.

Her heart leaped with joy, especially when she saw the large bouquet of roses in his hand.

’I knew it. Even if I did something to upset him, he wouldn’t stay mad and ignore me for long.’

"Adrian..." Maya murmured, her voice soft, her eyes full of adoration.

"We weren’t arguing. Our voices just got a little loud."

Adrian walked to her side, glancing at Wren out of the corner of his eye.

She still had that stubborn look on her face, refusing to acknowledge him, not even sparing him a single glance.

’Fine.’

"These roses are so beautiful. Where did you buy them?"

Maya’s question pulled Adrian from his thoughts.

He remembered what Wren had said during their argument on the street just now. Out of spite and a desire for revenge, he handed the roses to Maya.

"I ran into a little girl selling flowers near the hospital."

"Oh."

Maya smiled shyly as she accepted the roses, her heart filled with sweetness.

"Thank you for always remembering that roses are my favorite."

Adrian put on an act, moving to stand behind her wheelchair. "It’s windy out here. I’ll take you back to your room."

"Okay."

Before they left, Maya looked up and shot a provocative glance at Wren, unable to hide the smug, triumphant look on her face.

Wren paid her no mind. She calmly averted her gaze and walked into the emergency building without a backward glance.

"Wren Sutton, I’ll see you in court in three days."

As soon as Maya said this, Adrian’s brow furrowed, and he stopped abruptly.

Maya turned back to look at him. "Wren just received the court summons today. The trial starts in three days. I was hoping you could come to court with me. Would that be okay?"

Faced with her plea, Adrian’s eyes darkened with unreadable emotions, his mind heavy with thoughts.

’Something this important, and Wren didn’t say a single word to me. It seems she never even considered having me accompany her to court.’

’In that case...’
