Chapter 162: Chapter 162: A Serious Rejection

The aggressive, masculine scent washed over her, mingled with the smell of hospital disinfectant.

Wren Sutton couldn’t break free.

Adrian Lancaster’s gaze lowered, inadvertently landing on her chest. The alluring curve made his Adam’s apple bob, and his throat went dry.

"Are you really not getting it, or are you just pretending?"

Wren Sutton turned her face away, avoiding the man’s hot breath.

"What a pointless question."

Adrian Lancaster frowned, his expression cold as he gripped her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.

"Mrs. Lancaster, I’m not happy right now."

Wren Sutton was unmoved.

In the past, the slightest shift in Adrian’s mood would have her scrambling to appease him. She used to care so much about his feelings.

Now, she couldn’t be bothered. Someone else could coddle him for all she cared. She certainly wasn’t going to.

"When we get out of the elevator, turn left and go to the inpatient wing to find Maya Marshall. You’ll be happy once you see her."

Hearing this, Adrian Lancaster’s brows furrowed even deeper.

"This is between us. Why are you bringing up other people?"

Wren Sutton scoffed. "Maya Marshall is hardly ’other people.’ She’s your idealized first love, Adrian Lancaster. The woman you love down to your very bones."

Adrian Lancaster’s dark eyes narrowed, and without another word, he pulled her into his arms.

"Jealous?"

"No."

"Not jealous? Then why are you being so sarcastic?"

Adrian Lancaster pressed his forehead against Wren Sutton’s, his eyes dark and unreadable. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he felt the urge to kiss her.

Wren Sutton dodged him. "I’m telling the truth."

Just as she finished speaking, DING, the elevator arrived at the first floor.

Wren Sutton had her pride and didn’t want to be the subject of gossip. She forcefully pushed Adrian Lancaster away and fled from the elevator, making a beeline for the hospital entrance.

She hadn’t taken more than a few steps when Adrian Lancaster’s voice came from behind her. "There’s a market inside the hospital. You don’t have to go out to buy a lollipop."

Wren Sutton hadn’t expected Adrian Lancaster to follow her out, and she felt a surge of irritation.

"I just want to buy it outside."

"There are no convenience stores within a two-kilometer radius of the hospital." Adrian Lancaster was telling the truth.

Wren Sutton didn’t believe him and kept walking without looking back.

Watching her stubborn back, Adrian Lancaster gritted his teeth and forced out two words, "So stubborn."

Wren Sutton walked out of the hospital’s main entrance, looked left and right, and finally chose to turn right.

She walked along the sidewalk at a steady pace, her eyes scanning the area for a convenience store.

After walking for about five minutes, she still hadn’t seen a single one.

Wren Sutton took out her phone and searched on her map app. It showed the nearest convenience store and supermarket were still three kilometers away.

At that moment, she remembered what Adrian Lancaster had said. It seemed he wasn’t just talking nonsense; saying two kilometers had been a conservative estimate.

Wren Sutton lowered her gaze, turned around in resignation, and prepared to head back the way she came.

"Why’d you stop walking?"

A familiar voice sounded out.

Wren Sutton looked up and saw Adrian Lancaster walking toward her.

He looked at her with a cold, unsmiling expression.

His tone was full of ridicule, and if you listened closely, you could detect a hint of smug teasing.

"..." Wren Sutton was utterly surprised. She couldn’t believe Adrian Lancaster would be so childish as to follow her all this way.

Adrian Lancaster couldn’t be bothered to explain. He couldn’t really explain it anyway. He had just followed Wren Sutton here as if on autopilot.

The atmosphere turned awkward.

"What are you spacing out for? The hospital’s market has what you’re looking for."

Adrian Lancaster’s words pulled Wren Sutton back to her senses.

She mumbled an "oh," took a few steps forward, and started walking back alongside Adrian Lancaster.

The sidewalk was shaded by a canopy of trees, and pedestrians hurried past.

Suddenly, a little girl selling flowers appeared in front of them, her clear, big eyes looking up at Adrian Lancaster.

"Mister, buy some flowers for your girlfriend."

Wren Sutton: "..."

In the basket were several bouquets of fresh, vibrant roses. Adrian Lancaster nonchalantly averted his gaze.

Just as he was about to offer to buy them, Wren Sutton beat him to it.

"Perfect, I was just thinking of buying some flowers to put in Zoey’s hospital room."

She picked out a few bunches of jasmine, held them in her hands, and lowered her head to smell them.

"They smell so good. Zoey will definitely like them."

"Auntie, don’t you like roses?" the little girl asked.

Wren Sutton smiled faintly and gently patted the girl’s head.

"I do, but Auntie doesn’t need roses today."

Adrian Lancaster interjected, "If you like them, then buy them."

He took all the roses from the basket, paid for them along with the jasmine, and then turned to offer the roses to Wren Sutton.

Wren Sutton didn’t take them, rejecting him with a straight face.

"You should give the roses you bought to Maya Marshall. I don’t need them."
