Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 164: I Want to Be a Little Closer to You
Adrian Lancaster personally wheeled Maya Marshall into the hospital room. Mrs. Marshall was secretly delighted and didn’t follow them in.
She thought the two would talk for a long time, but unexpectedly, Adrian only stayed for a few minutes before preparing to leave.
Maya tried to make him stay, clutching his sleeve tightly, unwilling to let him go.
Adrian was unmoved. Using the excuse that he had company business to attend to, he loosened her grip.
"Focus on getting better. I’ll come see you again when I have time."
Maya watched Adrian’s retreating back, tears streaming silently down her face.
"You still won’t forgive me, will you?"
Her voice trembled slightly. Her words carried a double meaning.
They referred to both her leaving in a fit of pique all those years ago, and the incident that had occurred at the Marshall family home a while back.
It was from that moment on that Adrian’s attitude toward her had taken a drastic turn, growing colder and colder.
Maya felt flustered and uneasy, terrified that Adrian would cut ties with her.
"I’m sorry. I’m apologizing to you. I know I was wrong, and I regret it so much. Please, give me a chance. Don’t ignore me. Without you, my life has no meaning. I’d rather be dead."
Hearing this, Adrian stopped in his tracks at the doorway.
His expression was cold. He tilted his head slightly, his peripheral vision catching a glimpse of the hospital bed, but he didn’t turn around completely.
"Don’t talk nonsense, and don’t overthink things. Your most important task right now is to recover. Nothing else matters."
"No! You’re more important than my health. I can lose anything, but I can’t lose you." Overcome with emotion, Maya rushed to confess her feelings. "Because I love you."
Adrian seemed somewhat moved, a dark glint flashing in his eyes.
In the instant he closed and reopened his eyes, he snapped back to his senses.
The memory of chasing after Maya at the airport four years ago, begging her to stay, was still vivid in his mind.
A moment later, a cold, self-mocking smile touched the corners of Adrian’s lips. Without another word, he closed the door and left the room.

After some patient persuasion from Wren Sutton, Zoey agreed to cooperate with her treatment at the hospital and stopped acting out.
Wren was very relieved. She promised Zoey that she would come to the hospital to keep her company whenever she had time.
In the blink of an eye, evening fell, and the sky began to darken.
Wren waited until Zoey had fallen asleep before leaving the room. Before she left, she instructed the two caregivers to take good care of Zoey.
Then, she took the elevator straight to the hospital’s underground parking garage. As she approached her parking spot, she found Adrian Lancaster’s car parked horizontally in front of hers.
There was a wall behind her car and other vehicles on the side. Her car was completely blocked in, with no way out.
Wren was certain Adrian had done it on purpose.
’Of all the empty parking spots, he just had to park right in front of my car.’
Angrily, she pulled out her phone and called Adrian. He answered surprisingly quickly.
"What is it?"
Wren was furious that he was feigning ignorance. "What do you think it is!"
"How would I know if you don’t tell me," Adrian’s voice was deep and unapologetic.
The more Wren thought about it, the angrier she got. "Stop playing dumb. You know perfectly well why I’m calling you. Get down to the garage and move your car right now. I want to go home."
Adrian hung up.
"..." Wren wasn’t sure what he meant by that. ’Is he coming or not?’ Fuming, she put her phone away and stood there, waiting impatiently.
Soon, the sound of Adrian’s footsteps echoed in the quiet garage—steady and powerful, as if they were stepping on one’s very heart.
Wren turned her head, and her gaze met Adrian’s dark, profound eyes, locking with them instantly.
He walked toward her step by step, his expression inscrutable as the distance between them closed.
The man’s gaze was too intense. Wren looked away uncomfortably, taking a breath to calm herself.
"In a parking garage this big, you just had to park in front of someone else’s car." Wren managed to stop herself from calling him classless.
Adrian looked at her and blurted out, "I wanted to be closer to you."
Wren nearly cringed to death at his words. She looked at Adrian with open disgust and said bluntly,
"Well, I don’t."
