Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 160: Paternity Test
At the end of the hallway, Theodore Lancaster stood alone by the window, his mind a tangled mess and his eyes dark and unreadable.
Soon, Adrian Lancaster’s footsteps echoed from behind him. He stopped in front of another window.
A distance of two or three meters separated the father and son.
After a long silence, Theodore was the first to speak. "Where did that child, Zoey, come from?"
Adrian replied nonchalantly, "My wife has a good heart. She picked her up off the street."
Theodore said, "Zoey looks a lot like your sister."
"It’s not a coincidence," Adrian stated firmly.
Theodore turned to look at him, his tone filled with warning. "What are you trying to say?"
"We need to do a paternity test for Zoey."
"A test with who?"
Adrian turned, his sharp gaze fixed on his father as he blurted out, "You."
"You bastard," Theodore roared, losing all composure. "How dare you suspect your own father."
Adrian’s lips curled into a cold, sarcastic, and meaningful smile.
He had made his point and would go no further. Today was only about Zoey.
"If you’re not willing to do the test, then have Julian do it."
Theodore’s pupils dilated. He was too shocked to speak.
Adrian coldly averted his gaze.
"In any case, it couldn’t be me. My child would never be illegitimate."
With that, he turned and left without a backward glance.
Theodore was left in anguish, lost in thought.
After a moment, he took out his phone, dialed his younger son’s number, and barked, "Book a flight and get your ass back here from abroad, now."
A bewildered expression crossed Julian Lancaster’s face. "Dad, what’s going on? Why are you so angry?"
Theodore gritted his teeth, wishing he could reach through the phone and strangle Julian.
"You have the nerve to ask? You’ve completely disgraced the Lancaster family!"
Julian was indignant and defended himself. "Dad, I’ve been abroad for the past few years. Whether it’s family matters or company business, you and my brother have been calling all the shots. I’ve never gotten involved."
Theodore couldn’t be bothered to beat around the bush. "I’ll say it again: come back to the country immediately, or I’ll send people to drag you back."
Julian, intimidated by his father’s authority, felt a sense of unease. He had no idea what had happened.
"Dad, I’ll listen to you. I’ll come home right away. But can you at least give me a hint? What terrible thing have I done to make you this angry?"
Theodore was too furious to speak and hung up the phone.
Julian: "..."
...
In the hospital room, Zoey refused to get her shot. No amount of coaxing helped; the more they tried to soothe her, the harder she cried.
The noise gave Claire Sterling a headache. Mentally exhausted, she turned and left the room.
Just as she stepped out, she ran into Adrian Lancaster on his way back. His expression was just as grim.
"That girl Zoey is being so difficult. She absolutely refuses to get her shot, and I just can’t handle her. You need to call Wren Sutton and get her over here."
A dark look flickered in Adrian’s eyes. "She’s busy. She’ll be here later."
Claire rolled her eyes in disdain. "What could she possibly be busy with?"
"By the way, where’s your dad? How come he didn’t come back with you?"
At the mention of Theodore, Adrian’s expression turned cold. "I don’t know."
With that, he walked into the hospital room.
Claire didn’t think much of it. The father and son were often at odds, giving each other the cold shoulder. She was used to it.
Besides, she never worried that the two would have a true falling-out.
Inside the room, Adrian handed his phone to Zoey, motioning for her to call Wren Sutton.
Zoey immediately stopped crying.
...
Before leaving the hospital, Claire Sterling made a trip to the inpatient wing to see Maya Marshall.
Theodore was too preoccupied to go up, so he waited for her in the car.
In the hospital room, the Marshall mother and daughter were quietly discussing the lawsuit.
"Wren Sutton must have received the court summons by now."
"Of course she has. The hearing is in three days. She can just wait to be sentenced."
"Mom, can we really win this lawsuit?"
"Of course we can. All the evidence right now is in our favor. Wren Sutton has no way to defend herself. She could jump into the Siltflow River and still not wash away her guilt. Unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Unless you admit that you deliberately jumped off that rockery to frame Wren Sutton."
Maya Marshall broke out in a cold sweat. With a guilty conscience, she waved her hand, signaling for her mother to stop talking.
"Mom, that’s a secret we can’t tell anyone. We can’t ever speak of it, not even on our deathbeds. I’m finished if someone hears us."
The moment she finished speaking, a sound came from outside the door, followed by the sound of hurried footsteps.
Mrs. Marshall quickly walked over, opened the door, and looked vigilantly from side to side.
There was no one outside the door.
’Did I just mishear things?’
Around the corner of the hallway, Claire Sterling was leaning against the wall, holding her breath as she tried to process the incredible words she had just overheard.
’So Maya Marshall jumped off the rockery herself. It wasn’t Wren Sutton who pushed her. That means Wren is innocent. She was framed.’
