Chapter 69 -69: The Height of Willingness
Emily Hill was having tea and chatting with her two sisters-in-law and nieces. However, she couldn’t help but feel concerned about Carolline Ruiz from time to time, looking over at the trio engaging in lively conversation. Despite this, Emily was unable to completely let her guard down.
At this time, Henry Ruiz was caught up with his two younger brothers and couldn’t get away.

Henry’s wealth was not as substantial as his two business-savvy brothers, but in G City, more people knew him than Ryan Ruiz and Blake Ruiz.
After all, there were many wealthy people in G City, and Ryan and Blake Ruiz were not considered particularly prominent. They lived a decent life by surviving on others’ leftovers.
At times, the two wealthy brothers needed Henry’s help to secure a big business deal. Out of brotherly love, Henry never took any benefits from them, and even if they offered, he would refuse.
Their father saw this very clearly. If Henry was interested in material benefits, then among the three brothers, he would naturally be both the wealthiest and the most famous.
“Sister-in-law, my father told me that the young man named Simon Carrington who came today is a well-known lawyer in the imperial capital. Carolline really has a good eye.” Bonnie Jenkins said with a smile. Bonnie, who was married to Ryan Ruiz, and Natalie Parton, who was married to Blake Ruiz, were both sent by their father-in-law to persuade Emily.
“He’s a good person, but if Carolline doesn’t like him, then it doesn’t matter how good he is.” Emily spoke so directly that Bonnie and Natalie could not continue their conversation.
She and Henry both wanted their daughter to be happy, and they respected their child’s freedom and choices. They believed that since they had given their daughter life, they should not bind her to anything.
Therefore, they rarely opposed anything Carolline wanted, just like with her crush on Bryan Hawkins. Even when she did not admit it, they would not expose her, especially because Bryan was single and had a good character.
Moreover, Bryan’s family liked Carolline quite a bit. If Bryan and Carolline really got together, they would not have to worry too much about her marrying into such a family. This was not the case with Simon since they did not know much about him.
People born and raised in the imperial capital had a natural sense of superiority, something that outsiders like them could not compare to. Of course, Simon was not that kind of person, but what about his parents?
Without ever interacting or meeting them, no one could guarantee anything.
Emily turned her gaze back to Henry several times, totally unaware of what Ryan and Blake were discussing with him. She didn’t notice that both she and her daughter had arrived.
Fortunately, Carolline’s reaction was normal; otherwise, Emily would have surely gotten up to check on her.
The master was having a pleasant conversation with Simon and Carolline. Thanks to Simon’s presence, the master didn’t subject Carolline to his usual harshness.
“Carolline, when it’s time for dinner later, you must show your gratitude to Simon. After all, if it weren’t for him, who knows what might have happened to you last time?” the master said.
“I know, Grandpa.” Carolline nodded.
This was why the master had invited Simon, who had rescued her last time. In fact, the master’s disdain for his granddaughter was mostly due to her being born a girl while her father was his most valued son. However, when Carolline had faced danger, he had rushed over to see her immediately. This was what familial love meant to them.
Simon looked at Carolline without speaking. His acquaintance with the master happened by chance and coincidence. When the master learned that the man who saved Carolline’s life was named Simon Carrington, he had asked him directly if it was him. Afterwards, the two men had hit it off.
The master’s observations of people were meticulous. Within just a few sentences, he sensed Simon’s affection for Carolline and entrusted his old friend in the imperial capital to help him investigate Simon’s background. In his eyes, only a talented person like Simon could be compared to Jasmine Ruiz’s boyfriend.
Only with such a son-in-law would he be slightly satisfied with Henry.
“Simon, Carolline will have a vacation at the beginning of next year. Why don’t I take her to the imperial capital during her time off? Do you think you’ll have time to accompany us, grandfather and granddaughter?” After obtaining Carolline’s promise, the master was satisfied, and his next words made his intentions quite clear.
“Master, it would be my pleasure.” Although Simon was addressing the master, his gaze was fixed on Carolline.
If Carolline still hadn’t understood her grandfather’s meaning behind these words, Simon’s gaze on her just now made it all clear: there was still affection in his eyes. She remembered telling him quite clearly last time that this would not work, yet his eyes still held love.
Carolline’s eyes turned to her grandfather, and the look he gave Simon was almost identical to how he looked at Jasmine’s boyfriend. This realization sent a shiver down her spine and finally helped her understand why her grandfather was treating her differently today.
“Grandpa, I’ll go find Dad for a moment. Simon, I’m sorry to leave you for a bit.” Carolline suddenly stood up, bowed respectfully to her grandfather, apologized to Simon, and then turned to leave.
“Simon, you see, our Carolline is like this, spoiled by her mother.” The master had barely registered Carolline’s departure before he sighed and spoke to Simon.
“Master, actually, Carolline and I have met privately and had dinner together. She told me last time that she already has someone she likes. I think she must have liked this person for a long time. It’s not that I lack confidence, but I really think I don’t have a chance.” Simon was sincere, and he had never felt so unconfident in his life.
“She has someone she likes?” The master had no idea about this, and his sharp eyes immediately shot towards Emily, who was sitting across from him.
Carolline sat down with Henry, and after exchanging a few words with Ryan and Blake, they stood up and moved to another area. Emily also walked over, and after the three of them talked for a while, Carolline joined her mother. In the meantime, Henry approached the master and Simon.
“Simon, you’re here too?” Upon seeing Simon, Henry welcomed him warmly.
“Yes, Dr. Ruiz. I’m intruding on your family gathering, I’m really sorry.” Simon actually felt quite embarrassed to come, but he couldn’t resist the master’s enthusiastic invitation.
“Don’t say that. If it weren’t for you, I might have lost my daughter. As far as I’m concerned, you’re not an outsider but a benefactor.” Henry smiled and continued, turning to his father, “Dad, it’s about time to start dinner, right?”
