Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 89: "Am I that ugly?"
Seven minutes in heaven is a sort of coming out of age game teenagers play. It opens up the doors to someone’s first makeout experience especially if it’s with someone who makes their heart flutter.
Lee Ya was looking forward to this moment so much that she popped mint candy in her mouth as they walked to the inner room. Everything needed for this reaction to take place was laid out perfectly. In other words, the conditions were perfect for her to get her first kiss.
Qie Xieling was already tipsy and they were in private away from his friends. This was the perfect opportunity.
Lee Ya sat down on the couch with a shy innocent appearance like this wasn’t orchestrated by her. She was nervous rubbing the hem of her skirt with her nails her head lowered.
This appearance made it even more difficult for Qie Xieling to open his mouth. He wanted to get right to the point but she seemed so pitiful.
While clicking his tongue he scratched the back of his head seeming a little flustered. After gathering up his courage he sat beside her with his elbows resting on his knees.
He pressed his fingertips together forming a raised steeple gesture before calling out, "Lee Ya."
Lee Ya turned her body towards him reducing the distance between them. Her knees touching his leg she said, "Lin-ge, the way you are calling me makes me feel like you are distancing yourself from me."
Qie Xieling bit his lip rendered speechless. He was just trying to make it less awkward but now it seemed he had achieved exactly the opposite.
Lee Ya picked at her fingers with the back of her hand brushing against Qie Xieling’s arm before continuing, "Is it because I am not good enough that you distance yourself from me?" As she spoke her eyes were watery like she was going to cry at any moment. "Am I that ugly? Is that it?" she continued to say and Qie Xieling couldn’t bear it anymore.
He didn’t like it when people put themselves down so he hastily stopped her. "Don’t say that about yourself. You are stunning and amazing. How many times have you been confessed to? You are so beautiful," he said and she hurriedly interjected,
"Then what is the problem? Why don’t you like me?" When she said this a teardrop hung on her thick eyelashes before it dropped down to her hand. Qie Xieling was at a loss.
This was the first time someone had cried in front of him and they were crying because of him. He took out a clean handkerchief from his pocket. This was a habit he had learnt from his father, who knew it would come in handy today?
"Thank you," said Lee Ya her voice brittle.
Qie Xieling decided since she was already crying he might as well rip off the bandaid faster. He exhaled deeply before saying, "Ya Ya, I am just not interested in you like that. I am sorry. The only thing I can offer you is friendship and that’s it. If it hurts being around me then we can just be strangers."
Lee Ya who had been playing the white lotus character well: "..."
She couldn’t help but wonder what was wrong with Qie Xieling. If it were any other boy sitting here and saw her crying they would give in to her easily.
She wiped away her tears with her lips pouting. Clenching the handkerchief she sniffled before saying, "Gege, don’t cut me off. I want to still be your friend but... until you get a girlfriend I won’t give up. I want to continue pursuing you."
Now Qie Xieling’s brain wasn’t computing anymore. It was fried to the point that he just sat there not knowing how to respond.
Meanwhile, Luo Muchen was going through the worst seven minutes of his life. He wanted to break down that door and drag Qie Xieling out of there. After dragging him out he would press him against the wall and kiss him hard in front of everybody.
Something dark was crawling out of his heart taking hold of his rationality. The urge to kick that door down grew stronger and stronger with each passing second. The consequences of doing such a thing were clear to him.
He clenched his fist hard till his nails were digging into his palms leaving red marks. He was so beside himself that he didn’t notice when Bo Ailun came to sit next to him and poured out a shot of baijiu for himself. As though possessed by something he grabbed the shot glass from Bo Ailun before he could drink it and downed the entire thing in one go. His expression didn’t even change.
This astonishing sight was witnessed by Tang Fei and he suddenly had a fun activity to play. He slumped into the seat beside Luo Muchen and poured out two shots, one for himself and one for Luo Muchen so he could see if he would get the same result. "Class president here, let me toast you," he said.
Luo Muchen glowered at him causing Tang Fei’s hairs to stand on end like a frightened cat. To his surprise, Luo Muchen accepted the shot glass and just like before he downed it in one go.
Tang Fei: "..."
The class president looked so innocent and serious during the day but he was actually a good drinker. This was the biggest discovery, even bigger than finding out that the Earth isn’t flat.
Luo Muchen wasn’t the type with vivid imaginations but the longer that door remained shut, the wilder his imagination got.
Were they kissing passionately or were they already at second base? Were they going to come out of that room boyfriend and girlfriend?
His chest tightened at the thought of Qie Xieling dating anyone. He had never thought about what he would do if that actually happened and now that there was a chance he was starting to panic. This meant that he accepted the drinks handed to him by Tang Fei trying to suppress the blazing fire in his heart.
Meanwhile, Qie Xieling was just sitting there like a statue waiting for Lee Ya to calm down. He didn’t want to be the guy who made the school goddess cry. Wouldn’t he be ostracised after that? What he didn’t realise was that Lee Ya was deliberately buying time. No one other than her and him would know what happened in this room but the longer they stayed in there the stronger the rumours that would stem from this.
