Chapter 65: "Your soulmate is closer than you think."

The sweet sounds of careless laughter and meaningless conversations among the youth filled the air bringing nostalgic feelings to the old.

Qie Xieling was fascinated by the paper fortune teller origami Ah Cy brought. There were colors and numbers written on the flaps which was quite intriguing to him.

"I want to play. How do you play?" he said watching her move the folded paper.

Ah Cy moved it toward him and asked, "Pick a colour," as a strong wind blew past them causing a few strands of her hair to partially cover her face.

Qie Xieling subconsciously reached over to push her hair back and the cold light in Luo Muchen’s eyes became terrifying and his gaze on Qie Xieling’s hand brushing against Ah Cy’s skin also became cold to the extreme.

He pressed his lips into a thin line and averted his gaze with his hands clenched in his pockets.

"I choose green," said Qie Xieling and Ah Cy began to spell,

"G-R-E-E-N," while repeating the alternating action of pinching and pulling till she reached the letter N.

"Now pick a number," she said and Bo Ailun shook his shoulder yelling, "Two, pick two."

Qie Xieling: "..."

"Is it your fortune that’s being determined or mine?" he said with a soft chuckle as he pushed him away. He turned to Luo Muchen and asked, "Class president, what’s your lucky number?"

Wei Qi couldn’t help but lean in while snickering so much like she was high on something.

"Why can you take his suggestion but not mine?" asked Bo Ailun feeling very wronged. Qie Xieling rubbed his shoulder while coaxing.

"Class president is like a good luck charm. Whenever we are around him we never get into trouble so if I want my fortune to be lucky then I should ask him," said Qie Xieling and Bo Ailun nodded his head recalling how each time they were late for class or making noise, as long as Luo Muchen was there the teachers wouldn’t even spare them a glance.

Luo Muchen was still upset but if Qie Xieling asked him why he was mad would he be able to say it out loud? The answer was no so he just picked five and the two girls giggled happily. They almost wished they could press the boys’ faces together and make them kiss already.

"One two three four five," counted Ah Cy while pinching and pulling the origami before stopping at five.

"Pick a number," said Wei Qi and Qie Xieling again glanced at Luo Muchen.

Luo Muchen took his hand out of his pocket and pointed at two while staring right into Qie Xieling’s eyes.

The girls, "..."

Five two? Was this just a coincidence or the class president was hinting at something? All that was missing was a zero and he was basically saying ’I love you’.

Qie Xieling eagerly pointed at two bringing the girls back to their senses. Ah Cy couldn’t help but glance at the two of them and suddenly had a sneaky suspicion. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Because Qie Xieling was urging her to open the flap and tell him his fortune she didn’t get to delve into it deeper. She opened the flap with the number two and it read, "Your soulmate is closer than you think."

Qie Xieling arched his brow while looking around for anyone that could stir his heart. All he could see were square-dancing aunties, some joggers and some uncles playing Go.

"I knew this thing was a lie," complained Qie Xieling while Bo Ailun squeezed in saying excitedly,

"It’s my turn. Do me next."

While Bo Ailun was being indecisive when it came to even picking the colour Qie Xieling took a sip of his drink while turning to look at the vast river. He barely went outside but this beautiful view had him asking himself why he didn’t go out often in the first place when there were so many beautiful things to see.

Luo Muchen suddenly stood in front of him blocking his view. Qie Xieling asked, "What?" before sucking on the straw.

Luo Muchen watched him for a minute before reaching for his shoulder to remove a small piece of grass that had been brought about by the wind.

Luo Muchen thought about Senior Kay and suddenly wanted to know something but he wasn’t sure how to ask given the nature of the question. With his iced green tea resting on the side of his thigh, he said, "Can I ask you something."

Qie Xieling covered his mouth with his balled-up fist as he let out a soft burp. He had drunk his mocha a little fast just now. "Sure," he replied before placing his hand on his chest while clearing his throat.

Luo Muchen followed those long slender fingers with his piercing gaze while asking, "Is any of your dads like Senior Kay? Like do they... how to ask this? Like do they behave li-."

Luo Muchen stopped talking when he heard Qie Xieling’s light chortle. "You look like you are struggling. That’s so cute," said Qie Xieling with his eyes turned up into waxing crescent moons.

"Are you trying to ask if any of my dads behave feminine and flamboyant?" he asked and Luo Muchen just rubbed the back of his neck nervously with the tips of his ears stained with a dazzling red colour. He didn’t want to be offensive thus he struggled to find the right words.

"Not that I know of. Well, sometimes my dad screams when he sees snakes on tv but who wouldn’t, right? I have seen him once dressed in a maid uniform when I came home early from a school trip before. He said he was trying to get inspiration for his new game character so meh," he said and Luo Muchen scratched the side of his nose with the back of his thumb while nodding his head that he understood.

"Do you want to swap?" he asked trying to change the subject and Qie Xieling who only had a third left of his drink agreed. The two of them swapped drinks like it was nothing. If Bo Ailun was the one who had asked he would have been ruthlessly refused even if they had different drinks.

Qie Xieling would tell you that it was because Bo Ailun stuck out his tongue into the straw or the bottle regardless of what he was drinking. A great excuse indeed but what he hadn’t yet realised was that he was very biased when it came to Luo Muchen and it was a subconscious action too.
