Chapter 631: "Be good and I will buy you steak,"

"Where are you going?" she said and Bo Ailun who didn’t want these beautiful ladies to think that he was an ill-mannered person turned slowly with a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

"I am going to buy the girls something to drink... The sun is too hot. What would you guys like to drink?" he asked and when he heard Lee Ya ask for a bottle of sparkling water the smile on his face stiffened.

’Bitch did I ask you?’ he thought to himself but he didn’t show his dissatisfaction outwardly.

"Sure, I will be right back," he said before turning on his heels and walking away his steps briskly. As soon as he disappeared from view he ran like he was being chased by ghosts and demons.

Meanwhile, Lee Ya whispered something in her friend’s ear and the girl smiled slightly before saying, "We won’t let our future brother-in-law escape."

Qie Xieling had no idea he had been given the title of future brother-in-law by a stranger. The roar of the engine waned into a purring idle as he brought the car to a graceful halt at the pit stop. Five laps wasn’t enough. He still wanted to play but without his man around it wasn’t as fun. They were supposed to do this together but he was unfortunately abducted by his family.

With a nonchalance born of countless hours behind the wheel, he flicked the door open and stepped out onto the sunbaked tarmac. The heat from the track rose in shimmering waves, but he seemed unaffected as he ran his fingers through his hair, pushing back the few strands that were stubbornly brushing against his forehead.

His expression was one of cool indifference, a stark contrast to the fiery performance he had just delivered. The group of young men who had just enthusiastically watched his performance were now leaning against their cars waiting for him to pass by. They were all amateur rich kids and just like Qie Xieling, they were doing this for fun but the difference between them was huge. They had been watching him, their gazes tracking every drift, every turn with rapt attention and wanted to learn his ways.

Qie Xieling touched the concrete slab and was about to leap over it to go to the other side when one of them called out, "Qie Xieling, right?"

Qie Xieling knew they were all from the same campus as him but since he wasn’t the type to hang out with those in their circle he didn’t know them. One could say Qie Xieling knew who their parents were more than he knew them. This was all thanks to his father. He needed to know whose toes he should never step on and who was his enemy. His movements paused.

"That was insane!" one of them said, his voice tinged with unabashed admiration. "How do you make it look so easy?"

He turned towards them, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "It’s all about balance," he began, his voice calm and measured. "You’ve got to feel the car, listen to it. It’s like a dance, you know? You lead, but you also follow." He honestly never thought he would be able to teach people a skill he freaking gained from being trapped in a bloody virtual game yet here he was.

The boys nodded eagerly, hanging on to every word like they were listening to a grandmaster. While he was explaining it to them Bo Ailun who was coming from the vending machine with a bunch of drinks in his hand almost dropped everything.

He hurriedly made wild gestures telling him to hide but Qie Xieling tilted his head slightly in confusion.

Bo Ailun glanced at the bleachers and seeing that no one was there he mouthed, "Lee Ya is here. Fuckin hide," while frantically motioning with his hands.

Qie Xieling understood but it was too late. "Lin-ge!" It was Lee Ya, her voice bubbling with excitement as she rushed over with three girls trailing behind him from a distance.

Qie Xieling’s expression stiffened ever so slightly as he cursed internally. With a fluidity that spoke of his athletic prowess, his fingers curled around the rough edge of the concrete wall. In one swift, practised motion, he leapt in a graceful arc over it, landing with the softest thud on the other side, where Bo Ailun was standing.

Bo Ailun extended a bottle of water towards him, its surface frosted from the icy chill. He was especially vigilant. He couldn’t wait for Qie Xieling to tear her a new one.

Qie Xieling’s hand closed around the bottle, the coolness a stark contrast to the hot sun. He twisted the cap off with a flick of his wrist, his gaze settling on Lee Ya with a detached curiosity.

"What a coincidence," he said, his voice devoid of emotion, as if her presence was an expected part of the day’s routine.

Lee Ya who hadn’t laid eyes on him for a long time couldn’t conceal her joy. She pursed her lips her ears red as she watched him. He tilted his head back, the water cascading down his throat. The sunlight played across his face, casting intricate shadows that traced the long, sweeping lashes framing his eyes.

For a moment, as he drank, Lee Ya’s world seemed to pause, the only movement the steady bob of his Adam’s apple. He could still stir her heart with the simplest of gestures. She nervously rubbed her fingers her heart beating in her ears thinking of what she was about to do.

"Can... can we talk," she said and Qie Xieling gestured for her to go ahead. She glanced at the boys behind him who were watching curiously. When they noticed her gaze they turned aware while whispering incoherently trying to act like they heard nothing but they were eavesdropping still.

Qie Xieling arched his brow feeling exasperated. He draped his arm around Bo Ailun and walked a short distance away. Bo Ailun who didn’t want to be caught in the crossfire whispered, "Why are you dragging me into this?"

Qie Xieling whispered back, "You are the witness. You should tell my boyfriend the consequences of leaving me unsupervised," with a slight smile on his lips.

Bo Ailun, "..."

"If I am to suffer then I want you to treat me to dinner. I want the expensive crab," he said his smile turning stiff when he met Lee Ya’s glare.

’Aaaahhhh, I change my mind. No crab is worth this much,’ he thought as he tried to run but Qie Xieling pulled him back. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Be good and I will buy you steak too," he whispered but Bo Ailun wasn’t convinced. No amount of steak could compensate him.
