Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 630: Ride along
Qie Xieling remained focused in all that screaming. He had always wanted to take him along but Bo Ailun had always slipped away. Unfortunately for Bo Ailun today he wasn’t fast enough.
His hands steady on the wheel the roar of the engine echoed through the race track as Qie Xieling pushed the car to its limit. The sleek machine, a marvel of engineering and speed, hugged the asphalt like a predator on the prowl.
As he approached the notorious sharp turn, his hands tightened on the steering wheel. He downshifted, the car’s rear fishtailing as he executed a perfect drift. The tyres screeched in protest, leaving a trail of white smoke as they skated on the edge of friction and physics.
Beside him, Bo Ailun finally stopped screaming not because he wasn’t afraid. It was because he was just too frightened to make a sound.
His knuckles had turned white as he gripped the door handle as his very survival depended on it. The world outside spun in a dizzying whirl of colours and shapes reiterating to him how fast they were going. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
As the car slid sideways his voice suddenly came back and his scream cut through the chaos. Qie Xieling regained control and the car shot out of the turn like a bullet from a gun.
They sped down the straightaway, the finish line in sight. Qie Xieling’s heart raced in tandem with the engine, but his face was a mask of calm. Finally, they crossed the finish line and Qie Xieling eased off the accelerator. The car slowed to a gentle stop, and the only sound was the ticking of the cooling engine. "How was it?" he asked Bo Ailun but his bestie wasn’t having it.
He fumbled with the door handle, his movements shaky. When the door swung open, he stumbled out, his legs weak and unsteady. He bent over, hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. "That’s... that’s it... We are no longer friends," he said and Qie Xieling who didn’t expect him to say that stepped out of the car, his expression a mix of concern.
"Don’t say that. You have pushed me off the diving board before," said Qie Xieling stretching out his hand to pat his back.
Bo Ailun straightened up, his eyes meeting Qie Xieling’s. "Because you asked me to," he complained as he pushed Qie Xieling’s hand away.
Qie Xieling scratched the back of his head feeling rather guilty. He thought Bo Ailun wouldn’t hate it that much. Just as he was about to apologise and promise not to do it again Bo Ailun said,
"That was fuckin insane," he gasped, but a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
Qie Xieling heaved an internal sigh while chuckling. "Yeah... it was. You were screaming so much I think my ears are bleeding."
Bo Ailun glared at him before saying, "Next time, just get me a ticket to the stands, okay?"
As the adrenaline faded, his fear gave way to a sense of awe. He’d just ridden shotgun with Qie Xieling and despite his initial panic, he couldn’t deny the rush it gave him.
Qie Xieling clapped him on the back. "Go wait for me. I will do a couple more laps," he said and Bo Ailun nodded his head before walking away from the car, leaving the track behind.
His legs were still trembling, but when he saw two girls staring at him he quickly straightened his back and fixed his expression. His spirit soared seeing the look of admiration on their faces. If he had any lingering resentments towards Qie Xieling it was all gone in this moment.
"Hey gege," said one of them waving at him enthusiastically. Bo Ailun sat next to them in the stands. He leaned back on the sun-warmed bleachers, his eyes tracking the blur of Qie Xieling’s car as it zoomed past. The two young women watched the fast car drive past them their eyes wide with a mix of fear and thrill.
"Gege, It’s terrifying, isn’t it?" one of them murmured her hand grabbing Bo Ailun’s arm.
He turned to them with a grin. "Scary? No, it’s an adrenaline rush like no other!" he exclaimed, his voice carrying the confidence of someone who had been in the passenger seat.
He purposefully left out how he almost pissed his pants in fear. That was the scariest thing he had done in his entire life and he didn’t wish to repeat it but to look cool in front of these beautiful girls, he put on a cool front.
The other girl laughed, a light, tinkling sound that rose above the noise. "It looks... exhilarating, but I’d be too scared to even try," she admitted, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
Bo Ailun’s smile widened. "That’s the beauty of it! The speed, the risk, it makes you feel alive. Xieling up there, he is not just driving... he is dancing with danger," he said, gesturing towards the track where Qie Xieling’s car had just taken another sharp turn, tyres screeching in protest.
The girls giggled, finding his enthusiasm infectious. "Well, when you put it like that, it does sound fun," the first woman conceded, her initial apprehension giving way to a budding curiosity. "How about you take me with you next time Gege?" she continued to say her voice coquettish. Bo Ailun who could sense when a girl was flirting from a mile away knew what was happening.
With a dazzling smile, he said, "Sure," but before he could ask her name the third girl who had gone to take a call just now came back.
He turned his head subconsciously when he heard the sound of footsteps but when he saw who the girl come with his eyes widened in surprise.
He abruptly turned his head back while cursing through gritted teeth, "Fuck." He immediately got up intending to escape but the person called his name directly.
"Ailun," called out Lee Ya her voice a gentle caress that could move any man but that voice had the opposite effect on him. He felt goosebumps all over his body. She never talked to him that way. She was always mean to him yet now she was being nice. There must have been pigs flying in the sky otherwise why would she be this nice?
