Chapter 629: Going for a ride

The girls felt bad and urged Xiaolian to talk to Qie Xieling but even the bravest of the three of them was scared shitless. She didn’t want to be on Qie Xieling’s bad side. With a mouse-like voice, she said, "I am sorry about this," bowing her head before running off with her friends. Her round eyes were red at the corners like she was holding back tears but it didn’t move Qie Xieling. The few onlookers began to disperse, their whispers trailing behind them like leaves in the wind.

Bo Ailun didn’t release his grip on Qie Xieling’s shoulder. "You okay?" he asked, his gaze searching Qie Xieling’s face for injuries like a mother hen.

Qie Xieling exhaled slowly, the tension draining from his body. "Yeah. I am fine. You should be worried about him," he replied, his voice softer. "How about we go for a ride?"

Bo Ailun who had nothing else to do nodded. Ever since Luo Muchen got together with Qie Xieling it was hard to insert himself into the situation. He rarely hung out with his friend because Luo Muchen was like a koala, he wouldn’t let go.

"Let’s go to the race track," he said walking around the car to the passenger side. "I heard there are beautiful girls hanging out there today."

Qie Xieling sighed. He knew something was fishy when he agreed. "I thought you liked the teacher’s assistant. She looks cute," he said and Bo Ailun gasped.

Qie Xieling chuckled as he sat down in the driver’s seat. "I didn’t mean it like that," he said but Bo Ailun wouldn’t let him go.

"You better not call her that in front of her. She will fall in love with you and I won’t stand a chance," he replied as he secured the seat belt.

"What are you worried about? You will still have the beautiful girls at the race track," replied Qie Xieling finding his reaction amusing as he started the engine.

"You already have the most handsome man in your grasp. Don’t be selfish," replied Bo Ailun his voice ringing with laughter.

"Don’t tell him I called her cute. He will sulk all day," said Qie Xieling with a sweet smile on his face thinking about Luo Muchen. The hypersports car pulled out of the parking lot but after driving for a few feet it came to an abrupt halt. That’s because Bo Ailun teased him saying, "I am going to message him and tell him about it," while waving his phone tantalizingly in front of him.

Qie Xieling, "..."

"You little snitch!" he accused while bringing the car to a stop. His eyes widened, and he lunged for the phone. "Give me that!"

Bo Ailun laughed, pulling away just in time. "No, back off!"

They tussled playfully with Qie Xieling trying to snatch the phone while Bo Ailun dodged his attempts. The car filled with their laughter, the sound echoing off the leather seats.

"Give it... I swear I will tell your mum you said she nags too much," Qie Xieling said, half-laughing, half-exasperated. "She will nag you for life. Auntie is petty like that."

Bo Ailun was already imagining her messaging him none stop just to show him what real nagging is. Because he was distracted Qie Xieling managed to grab the phone, but not before Bo Ailun had wriggled away, still chuckling. He put Bo Ailun’s cell phone in his pocket.

"Don’t tell her that. She will drag me everywhere and nag me to death," said Bo Ailun still smiling. "Brothers shouldn’t backstab each other."

Qie Xieling couldn’t help but smile back. "You started it." Qie Xieling could have been a gentleman and let it go but he got his revenge on Bo Ailun. Instead of letting him out at the race track, he decided to take his bestest friend in the world along for the ride when they got there.

The race track was a stretch of tarmac shaped like a ribbon across the landscape. It was empty, except for a few sports cars parked neatly in a line.

A group of three girls sat on the bleachers, their laughter light and carefree. They were busy taking pictures with playful poses changing with each click.

Nearby were five boys huddled around the parked sports cars, their conversation animated. They were probably bragging about horsepower or something along the lines.

But then, the unmistakable sound of a high-powered engine cut through the chatter. Their heads turned as their conversations died down. Qie Xieling pulled up and their expressions turned to that of envy. Its engine growled, a deep and resonant sound and the girls on the bleachers paused mid-pose, their attention on the hypersports car. One of the girls stood up and took a few steps away before making a phone call.

Qie Xieling was completely unaware of their gazes. He drove the car through the track’s entrance and brought the car to a gentle stop.

"I will see you when you are done playing. I am going to introduce myself to some ladies," said Bo Ailun while reaching out for the handle but when he tried to open the door it didn’t barge.

"Oh, it’s locked," he said turning to Qie Xieling. He tried to unlock it but Qie Xieling pressed a button somewhere that Bo Ailun couldn’t see that locked the doors with a definitive click.

Bo Ailun turned to him again, his eyes narrowing. "What are you doing?"

Qie Xieling’s lips curled into a mischievous grin. "You’re always talking about adventure. Time to live one."

Bo Ailun, "..."

His heart skipped a beat. "Wait wait wait, let me out. Ah Lin Lin you want to kill me."

"Buckle up," said Qie Xieling as he floored the accelerator, and the car leapt forward like a beast unleashed. Ailun’s hands fumbled for the seat belt he had already removed and clipped it back in. "Fuck," he swore while gripping the seat, his knuckles white. "Lin Lin you bastard! Stop the car!"

The world outside became a blur as they shot onto the track. The g-force pressed them into their seats, and Bo Ailun’s screams were lost in the noise of the engine’s howl.

"AAAAAAHHHHHH! We’re going to die!" yelled Bo Ailun, his voice laced with genuine fear.
