Chapter 620: Jolie and Mittens

Wen Qinxi had his head lowered as he sat in the heart of his pristine lab, bathed in the sterile glow of fluorescent lights. The walls were a clinical white and spacious.

His fingers danced across the keyboard, lines of code flowing from his mind to the screen. A motherboard lay on the white workbench. It was a delicate lattice of circuits and silicon, the neural nexus for the AI body that had been delivered.

The room was silent except for the soft whir of cooling fans and the occasional tap of keys. His eyes were fixed on the motherboard and his iced coffee sat untouched, forgotten, as lines of code scrolled across the monitor like ancient runes.

The screen behind him suddenly lit up and the image of a cat lazily lying on a scratching post appeared.

"Boss... how much longer. I can’t wait anymore," said Jolie before her cat body turned over lazily whining.

Wen Qinxi, "..."

"Stop nagging otherwise it won’t get done," he said and Jolie stretched lazily before saying,

"How much longer?" sounding so impatient. She was like a baby impatiently waiting for food.

"That won’t make me finish faster. Go play with Mittens or something," he said his fingers still flying on the keyboard.

The project was more complicated than anything he had tackled before. He could have easily hired someone who was experienced at this but he wanted to do it himself. He had poured his heart into its design, weaving together threads of logic and imagination. After his son, this was his second most important creation.

Another cat appeared on the screen. Jolie appeared as a ragdoll cat with silky soft white fur and blue eyes. The other cat was a large Maine Coon with eyes as piercing as that of a lion. Its aura was as cold as an ice blade but the way Mittens behaved in front of Jolie was sticky and clingy. He rubbed against Jolie while sitting like the majestic great sphinx of Giza.

"You just want to run away from me," said Mittens and Jolie’s soft paw from her hind leg pushed Mittens away.

"You are being ridiculous. I am just the beta test before he makes one for you. What if the hardware isn’t good and it damages your software? You know that our boss is not experienced. It’s better if I am the guinea pig" said Jolie and Wen Qinxi’s fingers tapping at the keyboard stopped as he glared at Jolie.

"I heard that," he said before he continued to work.

He adjusted his glasses and scratched the itchy arm. Just as he started concentrating on his work again his cell phone rang.

That ringtone was familiar. Who else could it be but Qie Ranzhe? He swiped the answer button and spoke softly, "What’s up, babe."

Qie Ranzhe’s deep voice came from the phone. "Can you come up for a weekly report?"

Wen Qinxi’s lips curled and he said, "That’s supposed to be at the end of the week."

Qie Ranzhe was quite quick-witted. He wanted his husband in his office for personal reasons. He was the boss but his husband when he was working was so focused that it was hard to get him to come up thus he could only use this method.

"It’s urgent. I can only call in now," replied Qie Ranzhe and Wen Qinxi chuckled lightly. Unable to refuse his man he said,

"Give me thirty minutes and I will give you a full... report," he said deliberately pausing in between.

"Okay. I will be waiting for you," said Qie Ranzhe and Wen Qinxi cut the call. Even then his lips were still quirked into a smile. Most people would wonder if it was difficult working with his husband. To others, his husband was his boss but in truth, Wen Qinxi owned the majority of GameX shares. They were gifted to him by his mother in law and his husband as a betrothal gift so in other words he was the boss of the company.

Because he was a perfectionist at his work and so was Qie Ranzhe they never butted heads. They were always on the same page which was why GameX stood out among its competitors.

Qie Ranzhe waited in anticipation for his man to walk through the doors of the office. Seeing all the contracts on his desk he suddenly furrowed his brows. If they decided to have sex on the desk like they did several times before wouldn’t the pile of paper be a hindrance? He piled the papers and was about to neatly place them on his desk when the intercom rang.

He quickly answered and the secretary’s voice came through. "President Qie... President Lee came to see you. He said it was urgent."

Qie Ranzhe was a little surprised. He thought that their dealings with the Lee family had come to an end when he brought their daughter back home. Because Leong Jinn had been hired by the Lee family after his fallout with GameX they didn’t compensate them like they did with the Bi family and Bo family so why was he here?

Unwilling to be blindsided as he was well aware of this man’s cunning ways he let him in. He could kick him out in less than twenty minutes. By the time his husband comes to see him, the man would be long gone.

President Lee walked in his expression sullen but Qie Ranzhe could see the anxiety in his eyes.

"President Lee... what an unexpected visit. Take a seat," he said and the man unbuttoned his suit jacket walking towards the couch where Qie Ranzhe was pointing. He sat down and Qie Ranzhe asked,

"What can I get you? Coffee or tea?"

President Lee glanced at him and said, "Black tea is fine."

Qie Ranzhe informed the secretary before he sat down opposite him. "So... to what do I owe this unexpected visit?" he suddenly asked. He didn’t even wait for the secretary to serve the refreshments before asking. It was as though he was ready to send people out.

President Lee was well aware that Qie Ranzhe didn’t like him mainly because Luo Shih had somewhat damaged his image in front of this man. The way he held her in high regard you would think they were long-lost siblings or something. The were both harsh and cold-blooded. If they were generals on a battlefield they would kill indiscriminately making more enemies than allies.
