Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 619: Catching stray bullets
As though the universe was going against him his cell phone that he had just silenced began to buzz again. He tried to ignore it but it was nearly impossible to.
His lips still plastered on his boyfriend’s he answered. Instead of a male voice, it was the sound of his mother’s voice. "Come home. It’s urgent," she said and he replied,
"Um," before the call ended. His plans had been foiled but he was still in a pretty good mood. He put down his phone and continued kissing his lover.
Luo Muchen didn’t want to part with him. He caressed Qie Xieling’s cheek his thumb rubbing the man’s soft skin.
"I have to go home. I am sorry I can’t spend the night with you," he whispered his voice sweet and alluring.
Qie Xieling smiled slightly staring fixedly at his lover with a hint of obsession in his eyes. He placed his curled finger under his chin and lifted his head. "We have our whole lives to spend together. Don’t worry about it."
Luo Muchen’s heart swelled at his words. Qie Xieling didn’t mention anything about getting married but the fact that he was willing to spend the rest of his life with him made him so happy.
"I will call you later tonight," he said his fingers running through Qie Xieling’s hair. It felt so soft and nice to the touch.
Luo Muchen had never been this reluctant to leave someone as much as he did now. He knew his mother had her own reasons for telling him to come back home so he drove back as soon as possible.
When he got there Hei Xiwen was standing in the kitchen with a red apron on making dinner. Luo Muchen’s steps froze a little taken aback. His mother had someone who prepared her meals every day and she was quite peculiar about it thus he was surprised to find Hei Xiwen in the kitchen.
"Hey Ah-Chen. I am making noodles for dinner. If you want something else you can tell me. I will make it for you," he said while wiping his hands with a tea towel.
Luo Muchen wasn’t too picky. He walked past him towards the fridge while replying, "I am fine with anything as long as it’s not spicy."
He took out a bottle of flavoured water and twisted the cap before turning to leave. A sudden thought crossed his mind. Before he never interfered with his mother’s matters because she wasn’t interested in having a full-blown relationship with Hei Xiwen but now that he wasn’t leaving anymore. He was like a squatter.
He had moved in and from the looks of it, he didn’t plan on leaving. This meant that his mother had decided to take him seriously and make their relationship official. He knew he had to talk to Hei Xiwen at some point and warn him not to hurt his mother. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Thus he turned back and said, "My mother... do you love her?"
Hei Xiwen stopped cutting green onions his expression that of confusion. He had loved this woman from the moment he had met her. He had taken over the triads just so that she could look at him so this question was a bit redundant.
"I love your mother with every fibre of my being," he said and Luo Muchen nodded his head. He naturally knew that but he wanted to hear him say it.
"Then don’t break her heart otherwise you would have to deal with me. She looks tough but in actual fact, she is very sensitive when it comes to matters of the heart. She just doesn’t want to be hurt again,"
Hei Xiwen swore on his mother’s grave that he would never hurt Luo Shih. He loved her so much that he was willing to sacrifice everything for her. He was to the point that he would even murder her.
"I would never do anything to hurt her. I will love her for the rest of my life and would sacrifice everything for her," he said and Luo Muchen was satisfied.
"Keep it that way otherwise," he said his voice menacing before he continued to walk upstairs.
He ascended the stairs his fingers clutching the chilled bottle of the lemon-infused water, beads of condensation slipping down its sides.
He took a sip of the water as he reached the top of the stairs. He walked down the well-lit hall his curiosity about why his mother had called him back home growing by the minute.
In a few steps, he reached her study room which had its door half opened. He knocked and his mother answered, "Come in."
Luo Muchen entered the room while taking another sip of the flavoured water the coolness soothing his parched throat. She raised her head and her cold eyes that were staring at the screen softened.
"Hey... sit down for a moment. We need to talk," she said while typing something. After she was done she closed her laptop and continued to say,
"I wanted to ask you what Qie Xieling thinks of you."
Luo Muchen was a little confused and it showed in his expression.
"What I mean is that does he want to marry you?" she continued to explain and Luo Muchen exclaimed,
"Mum!"
"I am not trying to interfere. I am just asking," she explained further.
"Um... he did say he wants to spend the rest of his life with me," he said but when he thought that Qie Xieling didn’t say that he wanted to marry him directly he wasn’t sure. Given the chance, he would directly drag him to the altar.
To others, their relationship was going too fast but to him, he had been waiting for so long for this moment and now that he had caught Qie Xieling he would do anything to keep him by his side.
"Okay, I just wanted to know don’t overthink it," said Luo Shih but Luo Muchen could tell she was hiding something. She was indeed concealing something. Her spies in the Lee family had told her that the despicable pair of father and daughter were planning to propose marriage to the Qie family. They were preparing so many benefits to lure Qie Ranzhe and the benefits were extremely tempting.
What the Lee family miscalculated though was that Qie Ranzhe would never compromise his child for benefits no matter how good the deal was. Even if he had a lapse in judgement and suggested this to his family they would all band against him with no second thought. Qie Xieling was like a precious egg they protected dearly. How could they let him be wronged?
Since she was confident that they won’t succeed she didn’t tell her son.
"Ma... is there something you aren’t telling me? You called me back so urgently that I almost thought something happened," he said but Luo Shih furrowed her brows.
"You kid, can’t I just call you over because I want to have dinner with my son? Tsk, now that you have a boyfriend you don’t even want to spend time with your mother," she said but Luo Muchen was unconvinced.
He leaned in closer and asked, "Are you pregnant? Is that what you are hiding? You should consider your age. It would be high risk," sounding genuinely concerned. He knew that Hei Xiwen was a hot-blooded young man and might accidentally slip up.
Ten seconds later Luo Muchen was running out of the study dodging a slipper.
"You disrespectful brat!" yelled Luo Shih before running after him. Hei Xiwen heard the commotion upstairs but he didn’t interfere. If he interfered he knew he would catch stray bullets. With a soft hum, he smiled happily while frying garlic in the pan.
