Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 595: "I told yo—,"
Unable to wait any longer Qie Xieling’s fingers trembled as he pulled the ribbon, unravelling the mystery. The sides of the box moved apart, revealing a burst of colour. Green and black balloons soared into the sky, their strings trailing behind like ribbons of magic. His family looked up but Qie Xieling’s eyes were fixed on what emerged next.
In the middle of the fallen black boards, there was a sleek, black Laykan hypersports car. Its body gleamed under the sunlight, green racing stripes along the car doors. Qie Xieling’s breath caught; he had been waiting for this moment for a very long time.
He bit his lip, unable to contain his excitement. He took a step closer, his fingers grazing the hood. It was cool to the touch. The way he was caressing it one would think he was in love.
Luo Muchen’s fingers clenched slightly watching his lover fawn over a car. It was just a car but why did he feel like a jealous main wife after seeing her husband bring home a concubine? What Qie Xieling said next intensified this feeling making his eyes grow colder. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"Sweetheart," Qie Xieling whispered, running his hand along the side. "You’re magnificent."
He caught a glimpse of the plate number and he squeaked like a chew toy. Cutie Lin 01 was etched in silver. Qie Xieling chuckled excitedly like he was a toddler. He hugged the car, feeling its power resonate through his veins.
"Lin Lin, will you stop hugging it like that? It’s weird. How about taking it for a test drive," said his grandma and Nana Qie couldn’t help but shake her head almost regretting it. Her grandson was busy calling a car his sweetheart right in front of his future partner. She wanted them to stay together for a lifetime and feared that her grandson’s weird behaviour would chase Luo Muchen away.
The bodyguard standing next to him gave him the key. He pressed the button and the butterfly door opened.
Qie Xieling grinned and climbed into the driver’s seat, the leather embracing him like an old friend. He pressed the push button to start the car and the engine roared to life. The gravel crunched beneath the car’s low-slung chassis as it came to life.
His fingers traced the contours of the steering wheel his entire body itching to drive off into the sunset. He couldn’t wait to go down to the race track near the university campus and get his adrenaline rush.
As if summoned by his thoughts, Qie Ranzhe appeared, his presence alone demanding attention.
His hand pressed down on the roof of the car. The metal groaned under the weight, and Qie Xieling wondered if his baby could sense the force of his father’s disapproval.
"Lin Lin," called out Qie Ranzhe his voice low and gravelly, "this car is not a toy. It’s a responsibility."
Qie Xieling met his father’s eyes, the same steely grey that had negotiated deals and terrified plenty into submission. "I know, Father. I will take care of it."
Qie Ranzhe’s palm remained on the roof, a silent threat. "Drive safely," he said, each word deliberate. "No racing... or I will take it back."
Qie Xieling stiffened. He wanted to say that it was his nana who gifted it to him so he couldn’t take anything back but he swallowed his words.
"I won’t be reckless," he finally replied and Qie Ranzhe’s grip eased. Just as he was about to step back Wen Qinxi grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
With a graceful smile, he said, "Drive safe honey," before pulling his man away. "Why are you scaring him?" Wen Qinxi pushed his shoulder a couple of times and Qie Ranzhe couldn’t help but act pitiful. The domineering attitude he had earlier was completely gone and he was now incredibly docile.
"Ow ow, I was just telling him to be careful," he explained but Wen Qinxi pinched his waist while reprimanding,
"You didn’t have to put on such a cold face like you are addressing your subordinate."
Qie Ranzhe was about to retort when Qie Xieling as though to mock him revved the engine, the sound echoing off the estate’s walls.
Qie Ranzhe, "..."
He glanced at his mother with a look that seemed to say ’I told you so’ but he wouldn’t dare say it out loud. His mother brushed him off. Her son had always been overprotective of Qie Xieling and a rather annoying worrywart.
But Qie Xieling would prove her wrong pretty soon. He would make them wish they had listened to him as they always should.
Qie Xieling’s heart raced in sync with the engine’s growl memories of the drifting game world flooding in like a torrent.
The car, a sleek beast of carbon fibre and aerodynamic curves, sat there like a coiled serpent, waiting for his command. Its metallic skin shimmered under the sun, promising speed and adrenaline.
With a flick of his wrist, he shifted into gear. The car that had been eager to race with the wind leapt forward, tyres clawing at the loose stones. Pebbles danced in its wake, a chaotic ballet of rebellion. Qie Xieling circled the mansion, each turn more thrilling than the last.
Grandma Wen pressed her hand on her chest her eyes wide. She had endured a lot in her lifetime but this reckless grandson was her greatest challenge yet. She grabbed Nana Qie’s arm and began to shake her vigorously. "He is trying to kill me I swear," she said and Nana Qie was already regretting it.
Qie Xieling’s fingers tightened around the leather-wrapped steering wheel the engine’s purr vibrating through his bones.
He eased the car to a stop, the engine settling into a contented hum. He lowered the window and stuck his head out before yelling, "Thank you, Nana. I love it so much. I will take it out for a spin. Be back in thirty."
Nana Qie pointed a trembling finger at him her mouth wide open like she wanted to say something but the words wouldn’t come out.
"Bye bye!" he said as he pulled away.
"This kid," she finally said and Qie Ranzhe who rarely ever won against his mother couldn’t resist. He came a little closer and sighed heavily before saying,
"I told yo—." Before he could finish his sentence Wen Qinxi covered his mouth and his mother was glaring at him.
