Chapter 591: Dowry

Luo Muchen’s heart raced as he parked the car in front of the mansion. He had gone back home to change his clothes and pick up his sports car before heading to Qie Xieling’s house. He was nervous before but now that he was at the door it only got worse. His palms were clammy, and he could only take out a handkerchief to wipe them.

He had rehearsed this moment a hundred times in his head but his excellent memory was failing him. He took out his cell phone and dialled his mother’s number.

It was picked up in two rings. His mother’s voice sounded a bit hoarse like she had a cold. His brow furrowed when he heard her. When he left she was just fine? Now her voice had changed like she had developed a cold.

"Do you have a cold?" he asked and Luo Shih’s face stiffened while glaring at the culprit who was massaging her feet with a beaming smile like he had won the jackpot.

She cleared her throat and said, "No, I just have a scratchy throat. It’s nothing serious."

Luo Muchen didn’t believe that. He couldn’t help but advise diligently. "Have some ginger tea and keep warm. Ask Hei Xiwen to get you cold medicine. If it doesn’t go away we can call the doctor," he said and the more he spoke the more her expression turned ugly. Her voice sounded like she had a chicken bone stuck in her throat because of the person in front of her. Rather than a chicken bone it had been a thick rode shoving down her throat. Let’s not mention the cries that followed. It also contributed to the hoarseness of her voice. She worked out a lot and endured years of training in the barracks but it was nothing compared to this insatiable beast.

She tried to kick Hei Xiwen away but he had a good grip on her ankle and she couldn’t move. Plus it was like punching cotton. What was the point?

"Don’t worry about me. I take you are calling me because something went wrong? Did that ice sculpture freeze you to death?" she asked referring to Qie Ranzhe. Calling him an ice sculpture was the most respectful thing she could come up with. She was just being polite but in her eyes, he was the ice dragon that could freeze the world with one breath. It was for this reason she didn’t think her son would survive this meet-up.

"No... well not yet. I am outside their house... I am a little nervous. What do I say?" he asked almost having a panic attack.

Luo Shih’s brow arched in surprise. Her son could handle a group of shareholders and make them obedient but he couldn’t handle five people? This was surprising.

"Just be yourself. They are quite easygoing, well... except Qie Ranzhe. Qinxi said you should ignore him if he goes too far," she said but before Luo Muchen could reply the car window was knocked and he almost dropped his cell phone.

Outside was the so-called ice sculpture standing there with one hand in his pocket. "Ah... ma, I have to go," he said almost whispering into his phone. "Wish me luck."

Luo Shih wanted to say something else but the phone was hung up. She sighed while tapping the armrest of the chair. She was contemplating getting in the car and driving over there. She didn’t want her son to be bullied but she also knew he had to do this by himself.

Seeing her furrowing her brows, Hei Xiwen gently squeezed her foot while saying, "Baby, you don’t have to worry about him. Ran dage won’t go too far." He had spent a considerable time with Qie Ranzhe and he had nothing to criticise. He wouldn’t hold a grudge with a young man more than half his age. Luo Shih nodded her head but she wasn’t convinced at all.

Meanwhile, Luo Muchen took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. The gravel crunched under his shoes as he took a few steps. Soon he was standing next to the middle-aged man a head taller than him. Qie Ranzhe turned to look at him and couldn’t help but want to criticise. He was about to say, "Are you planning on staying in there until you grow mushrooms on top of your head?" but he restrained himself. Like his husband said, this was his future son-in-law not an enemy on the battlefield. If he didn’t want Qie Xieling to hate him he better play nice.

"Aren’t you getting inside?" he finally asked and Luo Muchen who was holding his breath ready for anything exclaimed, "Uh..."

He turned sharply and continued to stammer, "Ye-yes sure."

Qie Ranzhe patted his shoulder and said, "Relax... Don’t be nervous." Those words were meant to comfort him but they had the opposite effect. He was even more nervous than before. Couldn’t this man restrain his overbearing aura for a second? It was making him even more cautious.

"... otherwise they will think I am bullying you," he continued to say.

Luo Muchen walked back to the SUV that had been following behind him and the driver and bodyguard opened their doors to help him. The trunk opened and a box almost fell. The driver caught it in time.

Luo Muchen was about to tell him to be careful when they heard a voice behind them. "Did you buy the entire store?"

Luo Muchen who had gone overboard scratched his head in embarrassment. Qie Xieling had given him a list but he really wanted to leave a good impression. It started with one more gift and then another till it escalated to this. He only realised that he had gone too far when they packed everything in the car.

"I... I kinda went overboard with the gifts," he said and Qie Ranzhe chuckled softly before saying,

"I almost thought you brought your dowry with you."

Luo Muchen, "..."

Qie Ranzhe waved his hand before saying, "Hurry up. Don’t make them wait any longer."

"Oh... okay," he replied before the driver and bodyguard picked up the packages and brought them inside the house.

When he got inside he was met by smiling faces. "You didn’t have to buy so much," said a tall woman with beautiful curly silver hair. Her face alone sold her out. She was Qie Ranzhe’s mother.

Beside her was a short petite woman with Qie Xieling’s smile. She waved him inside seeming very happy to see him.
