Chapter 590: Getting a hair cut

Qie Xieling walked out of his room and rushed down stairs looking for his grandma. He had decided to get a hair cut from from her. He was going to keep long hair for a while but it needed a better shape so it can fall well on his face.

As he approacheed the kitchen the scent of simmering spices wafted from the room making his mouthwater. His grandma was busy checking the rice cooker. When she saw him walk in she smiled while beckoning him over.

"Lin Lin, come over and try this. I know your boyfriend doesn’t like spicy food. Do you think he will like this?" she asked, her voice a gentle melody. She took a clean spoon from the drawer and scooped up some chicken soup for him to try. He leaned close and ate from her hand. His eyes gleamed. It tasted really good.

"Mmm, It’s delicious," he said while squinting his eyes into half crescent moons. He could hear his parents chattering outside while messing with the grill. His dad preferred the charcoal grill so they were trying to light it while disagreeing with each other about how to do it.

"You need something from me?" she asked and Qie Xieling acted cute with his grandma while mumbling,

"Its my hair."

"Your hair," she replied, her gaze assessing. "It’s grown wild, like a forest in need of pruning."

Qie Xieling chuckled. "Grandma."

She clucked her tongue before saying, "Let me shape it for you."

Wait for me in the bathroom. Get a chair and towel."

"Okay," he replied as he ran up stairs. When she finally came upstairs he was in the common bathroom sitting down obediently. Her fingers moved deftly, parting his damp hair. She brought over a hair scissors from who knows were.

"I take it you want to keep it long?" she asked and Qie Xieling nodded the his head. His grandma could absolutely read his thoughts.

"Which cut do you want?" she asked and Qie Xieling unlocked his cell phone to show her.

"How about this?" he asked and Grandma Wen laughed softly while saying, "I am an unlicensed hair stylist not a miracle worker. You hair is too short for that."

Qie Xieling, "..."

Grandma Wen looked at him through the reflection on the mirror and suggested, "How about a middle part wolf cut."

"Will it look good o me?" he asked and his grandma laughed.

"Are you trying to look good for your boyfriend?" she asked and Qie Xieling blushed.

"Grandma, please stop teasing me," he said and she stopped messing with him.

"Okay, okay, I will stop teasing you. It will look good on you... besides, our little Lin Lin looks good in anything."

Qie Xieling knew that his grandmothers looked at him through rose tinted glasses so he naturally wouldn’t believe it. They had tendencies of over flattering him only for him to find out later that it was all rainbow farts. Once they encouragd him to play baseball saying their little Lin Lin was good at anything but the moment he was hit by the ball on his calf he knew they were lying. He had a bruise on his calf to prove it. The blades glinted in the soft light, and Qie Xieling watched nervously as she cut his hair.

"Don’t be nervous. You have to sit still," she chided, her voice a blend of sternness and affection. "If I mess up your hair you can’t blame me."

Her touch was gentle, each snip deliberate. She trimmed the unruly strands, her movements precise. Qie Xieling’s heart raced. He could feel the weight of his hair falling away, to the floor. When he opened his eyes, he gasped. His reflection revealed a metamorphosis, a wild symmetry that defied convention.

"There," she said, stepping back to admire her handiwork. "If Luo Muchen doesn’t fall in love all over again then he is blind... Clean up then blow dry your hair yourself."

Qie Xieling touched the shortened locks, the ends neat against his fingertips. "Thank you, Grandma."

After all that hard work she couldn’t resist taking advantage of Qie Xieling. She pinch his cheek and he didn’t protest. "You look handsome cutie Lin Lin."

When his grandma left he cleaned up the floor with a vacum cleaner, even vacumed the towel and the sink. After he was done he washed his hair again and blow dried it.

The middle part split his forehead like a lightning bolt. His hair cascaded in uneven waves, framing his face like a dark halo. Qie Xieling touched the ends, half expecting sparks to fly.

"I am quite handsome," he said to himself as he played with his hair.

His uncle suddenly passed by the bathroom door and made a U-turn when he saw Qie Xieling admiring himself.

"Look at you looking cute," he said and Qie Xieling who was desperate for some validation right now asked, "Really?"

Wen Danzhe smiled before abruptly turning his head and gasping exaggeratedly. "Uh Muchen!"

Qie Xieling was startled. Looking at how he was dressed he couldn’t help but panic. He was considering closing the door to hide but his uncle suddenly laughed out loud. He was almost rolling on the floor with laughter.

"I am kidding. Wow, your reaction was interesting," said Wen Danzhe before reaching out to pinch Qie Xieling’s other cheek.

Qie Xieling quickly dodged and said, "No touching. Uncle respect yourself."

"So my mom can but I can’t. Come here," he said and Qie Xieling ran out of the bathroom. Wen Danzhe caught up with him in two steps then pinched his other cheek. Qie Xieling tried to struggle but this uncle of his had a good grip on his face.

Qie Xieling finally freed himself and ran into his bedroom before locking the door. He rubbed his cheek while listening to Wen Danzhe’s evil laughter on the other side of the door. Why even bother have siblings when his uncle was so childish?

Just as he was about to slump into bed he heard a commotion downstairs. He checked his time and when he saw it was nine minutes to two he swore under his breath and rushed to the walk in closet. He had to pick something nice to wear and make himself look handsome for his boyfriend.
