Chapter 565: "Steamed buns aren’t cheap."

Qie Xieling was sitting in the barstool at the kitchen counter savoring the warm and fluffy steamed pork buns that his grandma had made for him. He had woken up later than everybody else and they had all eaten already.

He loved the sweet and savoury filling of pork and cabbage, and the soft and chewy dough that melted in his mouth. He felt happy and relaxed. He hadn’t been this relaxed in a long time.

He glanced at the patio, where his father was massaging his dad’s shoulders. His father had definitely pissed off his dad last night because he was going far and beyond to please him. He was working especially hard almost kowtowing.

A few feet in the garden his grandma was watering the flowers. As she sprayed the water Qie Xieling could smell the fragrance of jasmine and mint.

On the other side of the garden, his nana was planting some new flowers. She was digging the holes with a spade, and carefully placing the flowers in the soil while gossiping together.

Qie Xieling wondered what she was saying because his grandma gasped exaggeratedly before the two of them laughed. His curiosity got the better of him. He decided to walk over there and ask what was the gossip. Those two wouldn’t even scold him. They would rope him in on the gossip with fervour.

He was about to get up with his plate when he heard the door slam. He turned his head and saw his uncle walking in. When he woke up his dad had said Wen Danzhe had gone to work but this wasn’t even ten a.m. and he was already back home. What kind of job would let him get off work early?

Wen Danzhe tossed a box to Qie Xieling, and said, "Hey, kid. Catch!"

Qie Xieling caught the box and felt a surge of excitement. He recognized the logo on the box. It was his new phone. He tore the package and saw the sleek and shiny device. Having realised that now he could chat with Luo Muchen and Bo Ailun he beamed and thanked his uncle. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Wen Danzhe grinned, and said, "You’re welcome. Just don’t chat with your boyfriend all night."

Qie Xieling, "..."

"So you all saw it... all of it?" asked Qie Xieling as a blush crept up his face. Everyone had been deliberately changing the subject when it came to this. Even his father who he thought would go find Luo Muchen directly and beat him with a broom didn’t say anything.

Wen Danzhe leaned against the kitchen counter with a terrifying smile and said, "Uh huh, we all saw it."

"Everything?" asked Qie Xieling again his soul leaving his body.

"Everything," said Wen Danzhe finding teasing his nephew quite fun. How he missed pranking little Lin Lin. Now he was all grown up and not easy to fool. When this chance fell on his lap how could he not take advantage of it?

Qie Xieling was as red as a monkey’s butt terrified out of his mind. Wen Danzhe suddenly burst out laughing and said, "I am kidding hahaha you should have seen your face. Lin-er, I have never seen your face that ugly." Qie Xieling patted his chest as he released his caught breath.

"Oh my gosh... ahhh you almost gave me a heart attack. I almost died," he complained while laying his head on the kitchen counter in resignation. "Uncle, you are so mean."

Wen Danzhe rubbed his fluffy head of hair while saying, "Such a drama queen."

Qie Xieling was a little angry with his little uncle so he said, "Why are you back already? Aren’t you supposed to be at work? What kind of job lets you up and skip just like that?"

"Meh, I just told them my little nephew is still sick and they let me go," he replied shrugging his shoulders.

Qie Xieling who had been used as an excuse to skip work, "..."

"I am not sick anymore," he retorted but Wen Danzhe shamelessly said,

"Sure you are. You are lovesick."

Qie Xieling, "..."

Could somebody please come and get his uncle? The man was ridiculous. "No, I am not," he said but his face was selling him out. Wen Danzhe reached for Qie Xieling’s plate and took a steamed bun from it. "Yes, you are," he said before biting into it and continuing to say, "Mmm, these are delicious. Mom is the best cook ever."

Qie Xieling who had been robbed tried to protect his food, and said, "Hey, those are mine. Get your own."

Wen Danzhe laughed, and said, "Don’t be greedy. There should be plenty more in the kitchen. Come on, share with your favourite uncle." He took another one and Qie Xieling rolled his eyes but smiled.

An idea suddenly came into his head. He had thought about it last night. He wanted to know how to chase someone or at least how to confess his feelings. He couldn’t ask his dad. That would be embarrassing. He also couldn’t ask his father because he would probably glare at him.

Let’s not even mention his two elders. They would probably take things too far and spread it in their group chat that Lin Lin finally looked at someone. The only person left to ask was Wen Danzhe.

Sure, Wen Danzhe was single and had little experience in that department but he was his best option. What he didn’t know was that his uncle changed girlfriends like changing clothes.

"My dearest uncle," said Qie Xieling and Wen Danzhe raised his brow a little suspiciously.

"Why are you being nice?" he asked while wiping his finger that had some filling on it.

"Steamed buns aren’t cheap," said Qie Xieling looking so serious like he was going to charge him millions for it.

"Wow, did they have gold flakes in them or diamonds? Come come, tell this uncle how much I owe you," he said wondering what this little scammer was up to.

Qie Xieling was a little shy to ask but he put on a brave front and whispered, "How do I chase someone?"
