Chapter 526: Pampered wife

Before they could devise a strategy, Jolie, swift and fearless, leapt out of the protective circle, her blade flashing as she slashed at one of the creatures. The mercenaries followed suit, engaging the beasts in a chaotic frenzy. Blood sprayed through the air, painting the arena floor in gory patterns.

In the chaos, a creature eyed Luo Muchen like it was on the hunt. He found himself targeted by the relentless beast, its primal instinct honing in on what it perceived as weakness. But before it could close in Qie Xieling surged forward, his sword whistling through the air. The four-legged creature was a fearsome and intimidating opponent. Its thick fur, powerful jaws, and long claws made one want to run in the opposite direction but Qie Xieling stood his ground.

His black robe swayed with the breeze, and his long hair fluttered as he spun his sword. His eyes were sharp and focused, his movements swift and precise.

He dodged the beast’s attacks, parrying its bites and scratches with his sword. He slashed at the beast’s neck, chest, and legs, drawing blood and wounds. Blood splattered everywhere, staining the ground. He looked enchanting like he was dancing with the beast, a dance of life and death.

The beast roared and snarled, enraged by the pain and the inability to catch Qie Xieling’s slender figure. It lunged at him, trying to knock him down and tear him apart.

Qie Xieling leapt over the beast, flipping in the air and landing behind it. His black robe fluttered with the breeze, his long hair flowing like a stream as he spun. He looked like a dark angel, a beautiful and deadly force.

He thrust his sword into the beast’s heart, piercing its flesh and bone. The beast let out a final whimper and fell to the ground with a thud.

Qie Xieling stood up, breathing heavily. He wiped the blood off his sword and sheathed it. Just as he turned to look at Luo Muchen who was staring at him with a smitten look on his face he felt another bout of nausea but this time he was able to suppress it.

The battle around him raged on, the clash of steel and beastly cries filling the arena. Eventually, the creatures lay lifeless, their once-menacing forms now still and defeated. Seeming unfazed like they had just completed a simple task. The group collected the tokens left behind while Jolie walked over towards Qie Xieling. She handed him dry ginger to chew on and settle his stomach.

Jolie’s appearance was a huge contrast when compared to Qie Xieling. She had blood splatter all over her face and clothes but Qie Xieling was neat and clean like he hadn’t participated in the fight at all. Jolie looked like a demon child from a horror movie. She had a sweet innocent face yet she was the most terrifying fiend.

Luo Muchen grabbed Qie Xieling’s wrist and pulled him close, blocking his way. He looked into his eyes with a mix of concern and love, trying to read his expression. "Lin Lin, what’s going on? You know you can tell me anything, right?"

There was little to no distance between them. He towered over him his aura overbearing yet affectionate. "You are not feeling well. Why won’t you tell me what it is?" he asked his voice hoarse. Jolie felt like she shouldn’t be here so she took two steps to the side but her ears were perked up trying to hear some gossip.

Qie Xieling bit his lip and looked away, unable to meet Luo Muchen’s gaze. He knew that he would have to tell the truth sooner or later but he wanted to delay a little. Luo Muchen felt a pang of frustration and worry. He lifted Qie Xieling’s chin with his fingers, forcing him to look at him. His voice was soft but firm, pleading with him to open up. "Lin Lin, please. Don’t shut me out," he said the scene almost heartbreaking.

"What is it?... I thought you said we have each other. We can rely on each other. Whatever it is you can tell me," he said looking into his eyes.

Qie Xieling couldn’t hold it in any longer. He gently pushed Luo Muchen away creating some distance between them. Luo Muchen clenched his jaw his mind now thinking the worst. Was Qie Xieling dying? If he was then they would die together. There was no way he was leaving him behind just when he found him.

"Just tell him please or I will tell him...," said Jolie almost biting her handkerchief unable to hold it back. "Can I tell him? Please, please, please!"

Qie Xieling gestured for her to go ahead. Luo Muchen turned his gaze from Jolie to Qie Xieling and asked, "Tell me what?"

"You are going to be a father. He is pregnant," she said and Luo Muchen felt his heart stop as he heard her words. He was pregnant. Unexpectedly. How could this be? He had been careful... Well, that was a lie. He umm... he didn’t mean to do it.

For a moment he couldn’t process the news, he couldn’t think of anything to say. He just stared at him, his eyes wide and his mouth open.

"I...," he said, but the words wouldn’t come out. He wanted to ask him if he was mad at him but his words were incoherent.

He wanted to hug him, to kiss him, to tell him he loved him, but he couldn’t move a muscle. He wanted to feel happy, excited, and proud, but he couldn’t shake off the fear, the shock and the worry.

"You aren’t going to say something?" Qie Xieling asked but what he really wanted to say was, "It’s all your fault."

Luo Muchen wrapped his arms around Qie Xieling and hugged him tightly, feeling his warmth and softness. He kissed his forehead and whispered, "Lin Lin, I love you. You’ve made me the happiest man in the world. I will never leave you alone ever again."

Luo Muchen thought about his father, who had abandoned him and only brought him into the family for his own benefit. Because of his past experience, he had sworn to himself that he would never do that to his own child in the future. He would be a better father than his father ever was. He would be there for his child, to love, support, and guide them. He would protect them from any harm, and give them the best life possible.

He looked at Qie Xieling again and felt a surge of love and gratitude. He was his wife, his partner, his soulmate. He was the mother of his child, his future, his everything. He kissed him again, and said, "We’re going to be a happy family, Lin Lin. I promise you that. I’ll always be here for you and our baby. I’ll always love you both."

This sweet precious moment didn’t last long. Luo Muchen could not savour this moment longer because they were still in the middle of a bloody competition. The ground trembled like the arena had been struck by an earthquake. It seemed the metallic tang of blood hanging heavy in the air was inevitably drawing more of the savage creatures to their location.

"Sorry, Your Majesty, we have to go," said one of the mercenaries and Qie Xieling nodded his head.

"By the way, what’s up with that?" he asked and Qie Xieling brushed it off.

"We can talk about it later," he replied as they disappeared through the thick trees.

Qie Xieling soon realised why he didn’t want to tell Luo Muchen in the first place. Luo Muchen acted like he was porcelain that would break at the slightest touch. He himself had a broken arm but he was rushing to his rescue time and time again like he was a damsel.

"Ugh, this is why I didn’t want to tell him," complained Qie Xieling while sheathing his sword.

Jolie pointed at the dead creature and couldn’t help but say, "Is that why you took it out on that creature? You really did a number on it."

Qie Xieling, "..."

The arena had already shifted seven times and the strength of the species they encountered was getting higher and higher. It seemed their luck was especially bad because they engaged ferocious beasts each time. Either it was bad luck or someone had it out for them.

Qie Xieling was about to complain about his man some more when the man himself came over and said, "Wife, don’t you want to sit down in the shade? Take a rest for a while... oh here. Have something to drink. It will help with the nausea."

Qie Xieling couldn’t fathom when he had time to make tea. It was like he was ready to pamper him at short notice.

"How about me? I like tea as well put honey in mine," said Jolie placing an order like Luo Muchen was a barista.

Luo Muchen didn’t bother replying to her. He just watched Qie Xieling with a smitten look on his face. If he had a tail it would be wagging enthusiastically begging to be praised.

Qie Xieling took a sip and narrowed his eyes with a look of enjoyment. "It’s perfect, thanks," he said before Luo Muchen knelt beside him looking for any injuries.

Qie Xieling, "..."

This was going to be a long pregnancy.
