Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 46: "Did you ask her out?"
Luo Muchen had no concept of playing hard to get. He was just happy that Qie Xieling was giving him attention after being kept on read for days.
"Your dads are here and if I were you I would get to them before teacher Wong does," said Bo Ailun and Qie Xieling’s eyes widened as he swore.
"Damn, why didn’t you say anything before?" he said as he ran off. Luo Muchen was sort of caught off guard. He raised his hand to wave goodbye at him or something but he froze midway as Qie Xieling and Bo Ailun had already turned the corner running.
Watching that disappearing figure, Luo Muchen suddenly wondered why Qie Xieling never wanted to run in physical education. It turns out that he was really fast.
Qie Xieling ran so fast already anticipating that his teacher had sold him out but when he got there, his parents seemed pretty calm... like super calm.
"Did you have fun?" asked Wen Qinxi but something was off about his tone.
"Yes we did... we danced and took pictures," said Bo Ailun trying to mask the fact that they did something they really shouldn’t have.
"We are going to drop off Ailun first then head home, okay?" said Qie Ranzhe and Qie Xieling had a terrible gut feeling but seeing his parents behaving somewhat normally he brushed it off.
As the car drove off the school premises, Wen Qinxi asked, "Did anything interesting happen?"
The two boys looked at each other and with high-pitched voices, they lied.
Bo Ailun, "No nothing Uncle Wen."
Qie Xieling, "Nope."
Wen Qinxi bit his cheek lightly before saying, "Okay," and that okay even made Qie Ranzhe turn his head to look at his husband. He could feel his spine tingle hearing that tone. Wen Qinxi rarely got angry, half the time he was pretending to be upset so he could coax him. It was their little game.
But when his husband was really mad... well, it was going to be a long night for Qie Xieling.
While Qie Ranzhe was pitying his son, Luo Shih was caught snooping by her son and she wasn’t alone.
Luo Muchen opened the car door and was a little startled to see Hei Xiwen. His brow arched as he asked, "What are you doing here?" giving off the aura of a dad asking his daughter’s boyfriend what he was here for.
"I got bored so he kept me company," she said finishing off her sparkling water while scrutinizing him to see if anything had changed. Something had definitely changed but he didn’t look like a boy who had successfully confessed his feelings.
"So... where is she?" asked Luo Shih unable to contain her curiosity but Luo Muchen asked,
"Who," with his gaze fixed on Hei Xiwen as though asking ’aren’t you leaving yet’.
Hei Xiwen could accurately read the atmosphere thus he unlocked the car door while saying, "I will be going. Shih-Jie... I will see you ... when?"
"Just go," replied Luo Shih and Xi Hiwen reluctantly left. Luo Muchen moved to the front passenger seat and sat next to his mother.
He furrowed his brows as he glanced at his mother’s swollen lips. He didn’t need anyone to tell him that these two definitely kissed.
With slight unwillingness, he asked, "Are you two getting back together?" while she was simultaneously asking,
"Did you ask her out?"
Luo Muchen, "..."
Luo Shih, "..."
"No, we aren’t getting back together. He just showed up and I was bored," she replied and Luo Muchen turned his head sharply asking,
"You stayed here the entire time?"
Luo Shih who wanted to spy on her son, "..."
"Well, I was about to leave but he just showed up. Enough about me. What was up with those fireworks? I didn’t think your school valued this stupid dance that much. Was some brat trying to woo a girl or something because I don’t see that greedy principal putting up a special display," she said and Luo Muchen lowered his head wishing Qie Xieling had really done this for him. Wouldn’t that be great?
Qie Xieling actually did it because he couldn’t leave for high school without a big bang. Well, when he got home he finally realised that his parents didn’t give him prior warning to what was to come. He honestly thought he had gotten away with it but when the main door closed his dad asked,
"Are you sure nothing happened at the dance, nothing interesting."
Qie Xieling, "..."
His father sat down on the bar stool just watching him his expression as though saying ’you idiot, admit it quickly or the punishment will be worse’.
Qie Xieling was dumbstruck. Who would have thought that teacher Wong had sold him out already before he reached the car?
"I um," he said as though trying to come up with a lie but Wen Qinxi stopped him before he could continue.
"Think about it carefully before you answer me. You can stand in the usual corner for twenty minutes and really think about what you are going to say next. I want you to think about what you did wrong, why you did it and the consequences thereof of what could have gone wrong. I don’t want to hear a peep from you," said Wen Qinxi before turning to go upstairs.
Only the heavens know how annoyed he was with his son right now.
He was on the verge of climaxing in the car when an explosive sound came from the school’s direction. He was so frightened and like a bucket of cold water had been poured on him, he couldn’t get there anymore.
When he saw the fireworks he was a little suspicious and couldn’t concentrate on what they were doing anymore because he had a very bad feeling.
Qie Ranzhe who was trying to kick start things again couldn’t help but try and convince him to continue but Wen Qinxi junior was dull and flaccid, unwilling to get up. Qie Ranzhe knew the situation was hopeless thus he could only kiss his husband’s cheek before saying,
"I know you are worried so let’s go take a look. If nothing is wrong will you make it up to me tonight?"
Wen Qinxi chuckled softly while pushing his head away. Who would think that the teacher would find them as soon as they arrived and let them know that those fireworks were Qie Xieling’s doing? He had no evidence but Qie Xieling and Bo Ailun were the only ones unaccounted for.
Neither of them needed more information. It was clear that between Qie Xieling and Bo Ailun’s friendship Bo Ailun was the follower and Qie Xieling was the idea guy, the leader.
"Was anyone hurt?" he asked and the teacher who had run the entire school looking for Qie Xieling bent down while leaning on the car to catch his breath.
"No, no one was hurt. Surprisingly they followed safety protocols and nothing happened but... this is unacceptable," he said his breathing heavy.
"I apologise for your trouble. We will speak to him," said Wen Qinxi bowing slightly but the teacher waved his hand.
"No need for that. Just please discipline him otherwise he might grow bold in the future," he said before leaving.
Wen Qinxi gently smacked Qie Ranzhe’s arm and the man who said nothing throughout this conversation finally came to himself. He felt like Qie Xieling’s troublemaking was somewhat inherited from him because when he was young he did similar things and because his mother was terrifying to the teachers he would get away with a lot of things.
What he didn’t realise was that his mother was telling Qie Xieling these stories of what he did as a kid and that was also fuelling Qie Xieling. Who didn’t want to grow up to be like their father?
If one were to ask Nana Wen she would say he got it from Wen Qinxi but in truth, it was all from the Qie side of the family.
