Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 41: "Do you perhaps like like him?"
Qie Xieling was so eager to get this conversation away from Luo Muchen but his father was so hung up on it like you would think Luo Muchen owed him money in his last life and didn’t pay him back.
"That kid isn’t anything good. You can make more friends just not him. That Bo kid is way better plus you already have him as a friend so why do you need more friends," said Qie Ranzhe with a bowl of popcorn on his lap.
After dinner, they improvised movie night since tomorrow was a holiday. The only issue was that Qie Ranzhe was forced to watch animation movies which these two liked and he didn’t. This meant that by default he was meant to serve these two the entire night.
"I am fine with Chubs being my only friend. The more friends you have the more trouble you get into," he said and Qie Ranzhe couldn’t help but support that.
Wen Qinxi, "..."
"With that kind of mindset who will you be going with then to the dance?" asked Wen Qinxi while stroking his son’s hair.
"Well, I wanted to go with some girl in our class but someone already asked her. I think I will be going with Chubs. I will ask him tonight," he said with a serious face like he wasn’t joking.
The pair of dads looked at each other their unspoken words loud enough for others to hear. From their expressions, you could tell that Wen Qinxi was yelling at Qie Ranzhe to fix it since he was the one who always advised Qie Xieling to have few friends. Qie Ranzhe didn’t want to deal with it because Wen Qinxi was the one who always deals with the emotional stuff.
He was forced to relent in the end so he asked, "Why Chubs? Can’t you ask other girls in your class... or boys maybe."
Qie Xieling looked at his father as though looking at an idiot though he would never call his father that. "The dance is about going with someone you like and enjoying their company, right?" he asked and the pair of dads looked at each other for a second or two.
"Yes," replied Wen Qinxi while Qie Ranzhe simultaneously said, "Yes, sure."
Qie Xieling then smiled happily before saying,
"Then why should I ask a strange girl or... boy if there is Bo Ailun. He is funny and we are best friends so why not go with him. At least I won’t be bored."
Everyone, "..."
Wen Qinxi just had to know thus he asked, "Do you perhaps like like him?"
Qie Xieling, "???"
"No... he is my best friend... geez," he replied getting goosebumps all over just thinking about it.
The two of them sighed in relief. They weren’t sure how to handle it if their son starts dating early. It seemed like a task that most parents weren’t looking forward to.
Qie Xieling really did what he said he would. He took Bo Ailun to the dance and boy was it awkward. They had to pick up Bo Ailun from his home and the two of them even exchanged corsages at the back.
Wen Qinxi couldn’t help but rub his temple. "Whose idea was this, to begin with?" he asked and Qie Ranzhe glanced in his direction when they came to a stop at the red traffic light.
"The school said that they want to adopt international culture because the kids seem so stressed all the time and blah blah blah so thus the end of elementary school dance."
Wen Qinxi had one word for it which was, "Ridiculous."
At least his son looked good in a penguin suit. When they reached the school, Bo Ailun was quite eager. He opened the door while saying, "Don’t worry Uncle Wen, I will have him home by eleven."
Wen Qinxi, "..."
"No no pick me up at eight. I have a game at eight-thirty," said Qie Xieling wishing he could go back with them already.
As Wen Qinxi watched them running off together on the side view mirror he asked his husband, "Do you think that he will ever come out of his shell? He only has one friend in reality and several online."
Qie Ranzhe smiled slightly while saying, "What is there to worry about? You had your brother as a friend and you turned out great."
Wen Qinxi, "..."
"You don’t have to say it like that. It sounds so fuckin sad," said Wen Qinxi with a sullen look on his face.
Qie Ranzhe moved closer to him with his arm resting at the back of the passenger seat. In a deep charming voice, he said, "That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It means I can have you all to myself every single day," before kissing Wen Qinxi’s cheek affectionately.
Wen Qinxi pursed his lips hiding the subtle smile at the corner of his lips. "Well, we do have Lin Lin so you can’t really have me to yourself," he said his cheek feeling hot where he had been kissed.
"Exactly. Now imagine if you had a lot of friends. Won’t I have to fend them off just to get your attention? Since we have this time alone how about we park at the lakeside... in the dark... enjoy the night skies while.... exploring each other’s bodies," he said kissing Wen Qinxi’s cheek down to his neck with each pause.
Wen Qinxi tried to push him away but to be frank, he was kind of tempted. "Okay, just don’t leave a mess in the car. We still have to pick up Lin Lin later," he agreed to it and as though afraid Wen Qinxi would change his mind, Qie Ranzhe drove off real fast leaving behind students and parents who were wondering what was the emergency.
Miss Lou was one of those people. She was sitting in the car watching her son walk towards the entrance of the school. She wanted to see which girl he was fixing his hair for. At first, she suspected it was Bi Yu the girl he was taking to the dance but when they met outside it was the most dry and uninteresting meeting ever. It looked like her son was being forced to even go with her.
