Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 179: If you want to be civil we will be civil
Jolie sat crossed-legged with a look of worry on her face. She gently pulled down Qie Xieling’s chin exposing his tongue that had healed drastically after pouring in some healing elixir. Her face couldn’t help but grimace thinking about how much pain Qie Xieling must have been in.
She took out a handkerchief and soaked it in water before wiping the corner of his lips that were blood-stained.
"Your dad would be in pain watching you like this," she said only for the tent flap to be opened. Standing at the entrance was King Luo in his human form adorned in resplendent robes woven with threads of gold, shimmering with intricate patterns. His stature was imposing, standing tall and commanding attention without uttering a single word but Jolie wasn’t afraid of him at all.
She somewhat blamed him for what happened to Qie Xieling though in truth it had nothing to do with him.
"Let’s go outside and talk," he said in an imperious tone before walking out. Jolie tsked as she got up. Why was this goblin just as tyrannical as her boss? The two were cut from the same cloth.
She followed after him towards the forest thinking nothing of it. From a distance, Yunning stood with her arms crossed at her chest watching them.
As soon as they left she walked over to the tent they had just come out from her steps unhurried. She pulled open the flap of the tent and stood tall hovering above the sleeping Eling.
Yunning glanced down at her clenched fist her lips twisted in a condescending smile. "It’s better if you don’t wake up. If you know what is good for you you would stay asleep forever," she said and as though responding to her words, Eling’s fingers curled except the middle finger.
"You!...," she yelled while pointing at him. She wasn’t going to do anything to him but after that provocation, she couldn’t hold back any longer. She would be doing King Luo a favour anyway.
She uncurled her fingers revealing a devious poison known as the Bleeding Venom. This lethal substance took the form of a crimson pill, captivating in its appearance but harbouring treacherous consequences. It was crafted by the vilest alchemists and possessed a malevolent nature that sets it apart from all other poisons.
When ingested, the victim unknowingly invites their own demise, as the Bleeding Venom works silently and without mercy. Unlike typical poisons that manifest alarming symptoms, the Bleeding Venom operated in the shadows, leaving the victim completely unsuspecting. Eling wouldn’t have immediate signs of discomfort, allowing the venom to subtly make its mark.
As time passes, the venom would take hold, initiating a slow and agonizing journey towards destruction. It attacks the very core of the victim’s being, inflicting an insidious decay that gradually erodes vitality and strength. It would unleash a relentless assault on Eling’s internal organs, causing them to wither and decay, inch by agonizing inch.
Since no antidote or remedy could counteract the potent effects of the Bleeding Venom it made the perfect murder weapon. Even the most skilled healers and powerful mages would be left helpless in the face of this perilous poison. It defied all attempts at neutralization, turning hope into despair and resilience into mere futility.
The fact that she chose this poison expressed fully how much hatred she harboured towards Eling. It wasn’t merely a physical affliction, but a malevolent force that reached into the depths of the victim’s soul, amplifying their suffering. It granted them no solace or mercy, ensuring that every waking moment served as a reminder of their impending doom.
She crouched down before him and whispered, "Just remember you brought this on yourself," before pulling down his chin.
She placed the pill underneath his tongue and carefully closed his lips. It was at this moment that she caught a glimpse of the pendant peeking through his lapel. With a look of obsession in her eyes, she caressed the pendant. She clenched her fingers to take it but she realised she couldn’t. Yunning bit her lips as she slowly let it go.
Meanwhile, Jolie asked, "What do you want to know?" with a hint of impatience in her eyes. She was suddenly pressed against a tree trunk with a strong arm on her neck making it difficult to breathe.
Jolie gritted her teeth and with a swift motion, she gripped King Luo’s neck. Her eyes burned with a cold fury, her knuckles turning white as she tightened her grip on King Luo’s throat.
"If you want to be civil we will be civil but if you want to fight I won’t mind putting you in your place," said Jolie her gaze murderous.
King Luo glared back at Jolie, his own eyes filled with a mix of defiance and unease. The atmosphere between them crackled with volatile energy, a shared intent that seemed ready to explode.
Jolie, preferring to take control of the situation, continued to speak, her voice dripping with forced civility. "You have questions? Fine. Ask away. I’ll answer them all. But know this, King Luo, my patience has its limits."
King Luo’s face contorted with frustration, his grip on Jolie’s neck tightening slightly in response. He met her gaze with an equal amount of ferocity. The air around them grew heavy, electrified with the energy of their heated conflict.
Neither of them was ready to concede, each locked in a desperate struggle for dominance. But as the seconds stretched into an eternity, a flicker of doubt crossed King Luo’s face. His expression softened slightly, the fire in his eyes giving way to a glimmer of hesitance.
Finally, King Luo released his grip on Jolie’s neck, his hands slowly falling to his sides. The tension between them eased, but the hostility remained thick in the air. Jolie cautiously lowered her own hands, watching King Luo with narrowed eyes.
Just as they appeared to have reached a temporary truce, Jolie’s face twisted into a dark smirk. With lightning speed, she lunged forward, catching King Luo off guard. He stumbled backwards, grappling to regain his balance, but Jolie was relentless in her attack.
King Luo barely managed to deflect Jolie’s assault, narrowly avoiding a potentially devastating blow. His expression transformed from surprise to fierce determination, his anger flaring up as he engaged in the unexpected clash.
Before he could retaliate, Jolie was smart enough to vanish and reappear atop of a tree branch. King Luo was about to climb up but Jolie took shouted, "You better stay down there if you want to know the truth. Damn... so fierce. I don’t even know what he sees in you."
King Luo, "..."
