Chapter 113: ... power couple in our department."

"Xieling!... Xieling!"

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Xieling."

Qie Xieling who had been staring out of the window watching some birds arguing absentminded was drawn back to reality when the professor knocked on the table.

"Huh," he responded in a daze and the entire class burst out laughing.

"If you do not want to be here, you can leave and continue bird-watching outside," she said and Qie Xieling pursed his lips feeling a little embarrassed before saying,

"I want to be here. I am sorry."

She fixed her gaze on him as though scrutinising him. He seemed genuine in his apology so she straightened her back and said, "See me after class."

Oho, sounds echoed in the air accompanied by giggles. Qie Xieling ignored them as he tried to focus on the lecture again. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

While he was writing notes on his tablet with a stylus pen a small hand with cool nail art handed over a sticky note to him.

Qie Xieling glanced at the girl sitting next to him. She had long straight hair, and slim eyes and her fingers were partially covered by the oversized sleeves.

Qie Xieling didn’t know her well but she was one of the few girls in the computer science and cybersecurity department.

In a place where there was a lot of testosterone, she was a breath of fresh air. She was not only beautiful but talented so yes, most of the guys in the department were drooling over her, especially the seniors.

He took the sticky note and read it. As expected, she was kind and polite. She was asking if he was okay and nothing else. Qie Xieling showed a slight smile before crushing the sticky note and shoving it into his coat jacket.

"I am okay," he said and she nodded her head before looking back at the lecture notes.

She tucked her hair behind her ear feeling a little disappointed but she didn’t show it on her face. She had been deliberately sitting next to him for a while now but he didn’t even notice her. She would be surprised if he even remembered her name.

Qie Xieling wasn’t okay in the slightest. Today was exactly two years after that call he had with Luo Muchen which ended horribly.

When Luo Muchen said he was leaving, Qie Xieling’s reaction was extreme and he even hung up on him.

In other words, his response was, "You know what? Fuck you," and he hung up. Qie Xieling was so pissed off that he locked himself in his room and nobody could talk some sense into him.

Even if Luo Muchen had a really good reason to leave, Qie Xieling didn’t want to hear it. He was so furious that he wouldn’t hear what anyone would say. After he was done throwing a tantrum, he blocked Luo Muchen and officially declared that he was dead to him.

Pretty childish indeed. Looking back at it now he thought he was behaving like a brat. For sure, no one mentioned Luo Muchen after that. Bo Ailun was well aware that mentioning that name was taboo and when he did accidentally mention it, Qie Xieling blacklisted him for a day. For Bo Ailun that was equivalent to starvation. He wailed so much that one would think he was dying.

The two of them didn’t speak to each other, well, Luo Muchen did message him on his birthday and spring festival but Qie Xieling ignored him.

At least Luo Muchen wasn’t blocked on his social media platforms. He would like Qie Xieling’s pictures, stories and videos all the time, and he wasn’t being sneaky about it either.

Qie Xieling would never admit to it but he would have a slight smile on his face whenever he saw that or when Luo Muchen messaged him.

In conclusion, Luo Muchen was back in the ’I will pretend you are invisible’ phase.

For two years, this was the dynamic between them which Qie Xieling was fine with. But today, when he was walking to class he happened to see something on Luo Muchen’s account that annoyed him more than he thought it would.

To fully understand why he was annoyed one should understand Luo Muchen’s social media presence. He rarely posted anything but he had a huge following. Not only because he was good-looking but because he was extremely intelligent and had gained fame winning several academic international awards. He was wealthy, smart and handsome. In other words, he had the perfect tri-factor to take the internet by storm.

Despite posting a total of twenty times he had a good following of ten million fans and counting. In his comments, girls would be begging for more pictures and flirting with him. This was normal and an everyday thing but today as of this morning, Luo Muchen tagged someone.

He posted a picture of a recent project he had received an award for and to celebrate he posted a picture with his team member. They were standing next to each other with an advanced prosthetic arm in front of them. From the looks of it, this team member wasn’t just a team member. The vibe he was giving was that of a young man smitten by his first love.

Qie Xieling thought he was being ridiculous letting this distract him in class. Yes, Luo Muchen had never uploaded a picture of himself with anyone else apart from his mother let alone tag someone but it was utterly ridiculous that he was bothered.

After brainwashing himself for a while he could finally focus. The professor was happy when she saw how he was paying attention. Being that he was one of his best students, she would be devastated if he failed to get distinctions.

When class ended Qie Xieling packed up his things and walked up to her. He was forced to listen to a five-minute lecture of how this was important for his future and bla bla bla. She was even more into his education than his parents were.

"I am sorry. I will pay attention next time," he said and the professor caught a glimpse of Jinjing slowly packing her things like she was waiting for them to finish talking.

"If you have something bothering you you can talk to me," she said and Qie Xieling nodded his head thinking this conversation was over but then she said, "Jinjing is cute. You two can be a power couple in our department."

Qie Xieling: "..."

Why was everyone setting him up with someone? Even his own parents and grandmothers didn’t care whether he left university with a partner or not. If it were up to them they would prefer if he stayed a kid forever yet everybody else wanted him to grow up and start dating.
