Rogue Villain-Chapter 293: Flying
Four years wasn’t a lot of time, especially when the last six had passed in a flash. But Ackster was confident he could complete his mission. There were still some things that bothered him, and it was bound to be a difficult journey still. But Ackster already knew where to start.
He had to gather information and the comrades he had prepared.
"Mara, can you fly?"
Fortunately, Ackster knew where to start. And hopefully, he didn’t need to search hard before he found who he was looking for.
"Yes, My lord. Where are we going?"
"How about the Northern Tribal Alliance?"
"Roger that."
Mara took off like a rocket and soared through the sky.
Ackster sighed. That wasn’t what he meant when he asked if she could fly.
"Hey!"
Ackster shouted while jumping like a frog on steroids. It wasn’t that difficult catching up to or keeping up with Mara. But jumping and leaping like that wasn’t subtle, not when he couldn’t control his strength and left two craters wherever he landed and jumped from.
"My apologies, My lord!"
Mara bowed mid-air before enveloping Ackster in her mana and bringing him along.
"I was under the impression that you could fly, My lord."
"Why?"
"Is there anything you can’t do, My lord?"
’How does this woman see me?’
"Evidently not..."
"Have you tried, My lord?"
"No. And I don’t see why I should be able to fly. I don’t know magic."
Although that’s what he wondered, Ackster began considering how it would be possible for him to fly. After all, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that he was no longer a human. So, he needn’t be constrained by the same physiological limits as a human.
Since he could do it on the way, Ackster tried projecting his mana—Ichor through his feet and stuff to propel him. But it didn’t even slow his descent.
’Yeah, that’s going to have to wait.’
With Mara’s speed, it didn’t take too long before they arrived at the center of the Northern Tribal Alliance. Ackster didn’t make any progress with his flying ability.
They landed outside what appeared to be the largest settlement in the area. Mara didn’t bother concealing their traces, and a lot of people came out to meet them, including an older lady with scales covering most of her face. She carried the respect of those around her, and Ackster recognized her style of clothes as those belonging to a dragonling in charge.
He hadn’t seen her in the Council meeting, but she should have been eligible to participate.
"...Mara? Is that you?"
The older lady looked at the prideful and arrogant Mara with doubt. The person next to Mara caused the older lady an indescribable feeling of danger. So, she was wary. But her personal feelings toward Mara took precedence over a possibly strong human.
"Aunt."
Mara looked at the older lady with cold eyes. Ackster raised an eyebrow as he looked at Mara. He hadn’t expected her to be so close to the upper echelons of the Northern Tribal Alliance. Maybe that’s where her talent came from. Not that it mattered.
"Mara! I’m happy to see you’re still alive and came to visit me, but..."
"I’m still a traitor in your eyes. I know. I’m not here to visit. We’re looking for Kargas?"
"The Dragon Slayer?"
Mara’s aunt was a little uncomfortable due to Mara’s cold and disrespectful attitude. But for some reason, she didn’t urge her to leave despite the approaching tribal guards and the alliance hunters.
"Why would you be looking for him? And here of all places?"
"We didn’t know where to begin looking. If you can just point us—"
"How dare you speak to me, human?!"
Mara’s aunt glared at Ackster with sudden ferocity. It was one thing if Mara, a strong dragonling personally related to her, talked to her like that. But a human? There was no way Mara’s aunt, chief of one of the largest tribal settlements in the Northern Alliance, could tolerate that.
"Shut your mouth, hag!"
However, Mara’s aunt barely had time to glare at Ackster before Mara slapped her with enough force to tear off several scales.
"...Mara?"
Mara’s aunt looked at Mara in shock and confusion as she clutched her cheek in disbelief.
"Tell us where Kargas went after the Council meeting. Or die."
As she finished, Mara conjured a spear of blue fire and pointed it at her aunt. Mara’s aunt and even the other dragonlings further away felt their skin prickle from the spear’s heat.
"Mara?!"
Mara’s aunt cried out in outrage.
"Test my patience and die."
Mara glared coldly at her aunt and took a step forward, forcing her aunt back with the spear.
"W-we don’t know! He disappeared shortly after the blue dragon ate that filthy human!"
Mara cut off her aunt’s arm.
’I should tell her to go for the leg or something next time.’
Seeing someone else lose their arm didn’t sit well with Ackster, who had lost his arms several times.
"Do not disrespect my lord."
Mara snorted and turned to Ackster as if waiting for praise and orders. Ackster looked at Mara’s aunt. She didn’t have a reason to lie, and she seemed to be speaking the truth. That just meant they had to look somewhere else. Right as he was about to turn around and look for someone else to ask, a dragonling stepped out of the crowd.
"He’s out, looking for revenge."
Tararat spoke with his hand on the hilt of his sword.
"Now, who are you, and why are you looking for the Dragon Slayer?"
Tararat unsheathed his sword and pointed it at Ackster.
Ackster walked forward and grabbed Tararat’s sword with a smile before bending the blade with his bare hand.
"Don’t you recognize me? I’m here to tell Kargas he has a favor to repay. If you can send him a message, do so for me, please. Tell him to meet me in Tenger."
Tararat’s eyes widened in surprise before looking at his sword in shock. Eventually, he sighed.
He had been evenly matched in their first fight, outmatched the second, and now, he was no match for Ackster.
"I’ll try. But the Dragon Slayer might be busy fighting his father."
"Perfect. Show the way."
