Chapter 294: Sooner Or Later

Tararat was reluctant. Ackster had brought him and the dragonling race nothing but trouble. But, on the other hand, Ackster had also given them a chance to make peace with the Dragon Slayer and save their race from an early extinction.

At first, the dragonlings wanted to chase Kargas down when he left the Council meeting since it was his fault the dragons were up and about. However, the way he had beaten all the challengers and even stood up against a dragon, albeit less successfully than Ackster, made most dragonlings reconsider.

Tararat was not among those. He saw the destruction and potential of Kargas. He also saw the loathing in Kargas’ eyes when he looked at Killgara and some of the dragonlings. He couldn’t leave such a threat alone. So, he went after Kargas.

It was difficult, but Tararat found Kargas’ traces, fought, and talked with him. He wasn’t a match for Kargas, who had undergone strict training for several months. But with his life spared, Tararat was planning to go back and organize a hunting squad of the strongest dragonlings.

However, when he returned, he discovered that all the tribes were celebrating. Several pregnancies had occurred throughout the Land of Dragons. Their race was no longer doomed.

When he chased Kargas down again and asked him about it, Tararat found out Kargas had nothing to do with the dragonlings’ infertility.

Tararat was a bundle of mixed feelings impossible to describe. If possible, he didn’t want to meet Kargas again until he had sorted those feelings out.

But Ackster didn’t give him a choice.

Before long, with Tararat pointing the way for Mara, they arrived at a deserted wasteland.

"This is where I last saw him."

Tararat looked around.

"No idea where he is now, though."

He was relieved that he didn’t have to meet Kargas again.

"He’s right in front of us."

Ackster looked and walked toward the center of the wasteland. Mara followed behind without doubting Ackster’s words.

"Where?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Tararat was confused. However, after walking for a few moments, Ackster reached out with his hands and grabbed thin air, tearing it apart and releasing an incredible wave of heat as he revealed what was hidden behind an illusion.

A huge volcano, unlike anything Ackster, Mara, or Tararat had seen before, bared itself in front of them as Ackster tore open the illusion with his Ichor-reinforced hands. Not even the magic of a dragon like Killgara could resist it.

Ackster left Tararat behind as he advanced into Killgara’s lair. He could sense Kargas and Killgara embroiled in a great battle. Considering Kargas had chosen to fight his father in his own lair, the Dragon Slayer had to be confident in his battle.

Ackster jumped up to the volcano’s edge as the lava bounced off of him. Compared to Trana’s blue sun, even Killgara’s lava was nothing. His Diamond Body seemed impervious to the fire.

’Makes sense. Pyro resistance should also have jumped to Ex-rank if Iron Body hadn’t used it to evolve.’

Kargas had gotten his hands on a weapon that could withstand Killgara’s heat and defense. It was similar to his old curved and jagged blades. And it was good enough to leave deep scars in Killgara’s thick skin.

Both Kargas and Killgara noticed Ackster’s arrival, but they only had the leeway to notice he wasn’t doing anything. So, they continued fighting. Kargas seemed intent on defeating and killing Killgara, and, based on the snippets of their conversation Ackster picked up, it seemed to be because his grudge had grown.

Kargas blamed Killgara for everything that he and the dragonling race had suffered.

Killgara was on the defensive. Or rather, he was holding back since he didn’t want to kill his own son.

Ackster looked at the fight with a relaxed expression and no intention of stopping it. Killgara was just another victim of Mazar’s plan. He didn’t know what was going on until it was too late, and by then, there was nothing Killgara could do.

It was all Mazar’s fault that Kargas and the dragonling race had been about to fight a battle to the death. If anything, Killgara had done the crazy Kargas a favor by staying away.

But Ackster had no intentions of telling Kargas any of this. Mara, Trana, and Ackster were the only ones who knew the truth.

Mara wouldn’t tell Kargas anything without Ackster telling her to. And Trana was in a deep rest to recover from using her Covenant.

But Kargas needed to slay a dragon to take the next step as a Dragon Slayer. And that was why Ackster needed him. If Kargas wasn’t a Dragon Slayer strong enough to accompany him, Ackster didn’t need him.

If Kargas hadn’t grown or didn’t show any signs of becoming strong enough, Ackster would discard him without a second thought. He was unnecessary, especially now that he had lost the crazy ability to designate anything as a dragon and use his abilities against it.

However, if Kargas was about to slay one of the more powerful dragons, Ackster had to take the chance. He would at least be useful in subjugating the Dragon of Life and putting that lizard under their control.

As for the final battle...Ackster was sure he could find a way to put the sane Kargas to use. It wasn’t like he wasn’t strong without his Dragon Slayer abilities.

So, he just watched Kargas and Killgara’s battle. Occasionally, he got the urge to join in and hone his martial arts. But this wasn’t his fight. He also felt like Kargas needed to do it alone.

It was just that it didn’t look like they were going to finish any time soon. So, Ackster took a seat and started training his Ichor. It had taken him a while, but Ackster realized that as long as he trained his mana, Will, and vitality at the same time, he could somewhat improve the marble of Ichor.

It wasn’t effective, but it was better than nothing, especially since he could still use his martial arts with the Ichor instead of his mana.

It took a while, but Killgara finally stopped holding back. He could just get another son if he so wished. It wasn’t like it mattered whether Kargas lived or died, other than the fact that the world would lose its Dragon Slayer. But a new one would pop up sooner or later.
