Chapter 51 -51: Everyone is not stupid!

The assistant cleared a space for the treasure hunters to examine the container.

Mr. Madden, the most experienced among them, stepped forward first. He took out an octuple telescope and examined the small tires in the box thoughtfully before suddenly bending down to peer through the gap under the waterproof cloth.

Sean admired his dedication.

The big black man, Hamilton Diaz, simply jumped up to grab the top of the container and crane his head inside to have a look.

Diana Smith played to her advantage as a woman, showing a bit of cleavage and cozying up to the assistant in an attempt to get a closer look.

The three of them certainly weren’t acting like the big shots they were – more like common hoodlums!

Sean was amused by their antics.

Others also tried to get closer, but the assistant quickly shooed the big shots away, under the freight yard owner’s instructions.

Once everyone had taken a look, Mr. Madden sidled up to Sean and whispered,

“Sean, let’s team up!”

“Team up?” Sean was surprised. “Why should we?”

“I think there’s something valuable inside this container. But I’ve spent some of my money on the previous one. If we work together, we can outbid the others and profit from the contents of this container.”

Sean shook his head.

No way – he intended to bid his hardest on this container himself.

Why should he share the profits with someone else?

Seeing that Sean refused, Madden shrugged regretfully and went to approach Hamilton.

Without waiting, the auctioneer started bidding after everyone examined the container.

“The reserve price for this container is five hundred dollars. Each bid must be no less than fifty dollars. The auction starts now…”

Diana seemed to have seen something and immediately made an offer:

“One thousand dollars!”

Hamilton chimed in: “One thousand five hundred dollars!”

Sean wasn’t one to back down: “Two thousand dollars!”

The bids, each equal to the reserve price, overwhelmed and angered those treasure hunters with less money. They complained that the big shots weren’t playing by the rules!

How were the smaller treasure hunters supposed to bid at this rate?

Due to the popularity among the big shots, the price soon rose to eight thousand dollars!

Now it was down to just Hamilton and Sean in the bidding war.

Updated from freewёbnoνel.com.

From the beginning, Mr. Madden didn’t place any bids. Sean was convinced he was in cahoots with Hamilton.

Seeing that Hamilton wasn’t giving up, Sean used Mr. Madden’s tactic:

“Ten thousand dollars!”

Hamilton was indeed taken aback. However, after a moment of hesitation, Mr. Madden nudged him, and Hamilton gritted his teeth to raise the bid again:

“Ten thousand five hundred!”

Sean countered: “Eleven thousand dollars!”

Hamilton hesitated again, but after another nudge from Mr. Madden, he raised his bid by five hundred more.

Sean followed instantly: “Twelve thousand dollars!”

Although Mr. Madden nudged Hamilton once more, Hamilton shook his hand:

“I give up!”

Mr. Madden was furious!

He had bought two containers that morning and didn’t make any money. He partnered up with Hamilton in the afternoon, as they were both short on funds but interested in the current container on auction.

However, Hamilton’s sudden withdrawal left him high and dry.

Sean eventually won the container for twelve thousand dollars.

While the auctioneer and treasure hunters moved on to the next container, Mr. Madden stayed behind.

He couldn’t accept defeat and wanted to see what was inside.

Sean ignored him, letting Jason first inspect the tires and parts in the two boxes. Both were brand new.

One box contained forty tires, and the other had forty spare parts.

Sean had a hunch about their purpose.

Anxious to see what was inside, Mr. Madden watched as Sean stopped stalling. He instructed Jason to move the two boxes of parts to one side, then stepped forward to remove the waterproof cloth.

“Oh, wow!”

Seeing the dozens of luxurious pedal-powered tricycles inside the container, Mr. Madden’s intestines turned green with regret!

He turned to find Hamilton Diaz, who was looking at another container, and dragged him over to see the tricycles in this container. Although he felt some regret, he refused to admit defeat:

“These are just tricycles! They’re worth no more than three or four hundred dollars each. At most, this container will just break even!”

Mr. Madden was so angry that he was ready to vomit blood. He pointed to the tricycle’s logo and said loudly:

“Do you see that? Brilliance brand, a globally famous name, specializing in high-end tricycles. Each one is worth at least a thousand dollars… These are new! The price could go up to 1,200 to 1,300 dollars…”

Madden couldn’t say anymore.

If he had acquired this container, he would have made at least forty thousand dollars!

Even if he split it with Hamilton, they would each make twenty thousand dollars, enough to make up for the losses of the past two days!

He was furious!

Watching Sean Knight laugh while counting the quantity of tricycles and Jason Caldwell happily riding one outside, Madden’s heart was bleeding!

This money could have been his!

After calming himself down, Madden approached Sean and said:

“Sean, do you have a way to sell these tricycles? Do you need me to introduce you to someone?”

Sean shook his head apologetically and said:

“No need. You know, I always let Mr. John handle the valuable items I get.”

Old Madden still wanted to give it a try:

“Sean, you know, I’ve been in the treasure hunting business for over twenty years. I admit that Mr. John has a wide network, but when it comes to expertise, I’m the expert!

Trust me, the channels I provide will definitely give you a better price than what Mr. John can get you!”

Sean shook his head:

“Madden, people have to be trustworthy. Mr. John and I are in a partnership, so I have to prioritize him. Besides, he once saved me, so I can’t repay kindness with ingratitude.”

Madden sighed:

“Sean, you’re a good partner.”

Watching Madden leave in disappointment, Sean felt no sympathy for him.

These people are all about profit. If they could undermine Mr. John today, they could abandon him tomorrow because he was no longer useful.

In a word, they’re not reliable!

He took two photos and sent them to Mr. John, then made a phone call.

“John, take a look at these pedal-powered cars…”

“Good stuff, they’re all brand new, right? Someone will call you later.

I have a friend who works in a tourist area and really needs cars like this. The price will definitely be good! By the way, how many are there?”

“Forty.” As Sean guessed, there were forty cars, spare parts, and car quantities. The whole set was a complete package, but he didn’t know why the cargo owner would abandon them.

A few minutes later, a call came in, and Sean answered it.

“Hello.”

“Hello, you’re the Sean that John mentioned, right? You have forty pedal-powered tricycles? The ones in the photos?”

“Yes,” Sean said, “and two boxes of matching parts.”

“Great! That’s exactly what I’m missing!” The woman happily said, “I’ll come find you right away, just give me the address!”

Sean gave her the address and she said she’d be right over, then hung up the phone.

Sean called Jason over, and the two of them began moving the cars outside.

The space outside was vast, with each new tricycle pulled out attracting attention.

Soon after, Mr. Madden came back again, his face long and unhappy.

He approached Sean and tried to persuade him once more:

“Sean, think about my offer. I’ll buy these cars from you for 1,300 dollars each, absolutely the best price! New cars are worth just that!”

Sean shook his head.

Just now, Mr. Madden was talking with someone else, and he had overheard their conversation.

Madden thought he had snagged a deal with those porcelain pieces, but after the other person saw the photos, they quoted 3,500 dollars right away.

Madden lost at least 3,000 dollars!

Now he was here to negotiate the price, most likely trying to make up for his loss!

But there was no way Sean would agree to that!
