Chapter 52 -Fifty-two: Strange Glances

When the woman arrived, the container auction had already ended. Sean Knight had bid twice, but in the end he didn’t secure anything.

Now the entire freight yard was being tidied up and most of the treasure hunters had already left.

A big van pulled up, and a woman got out from the passenger seat.

To Sean’s surprise, the woman was Latino American; about thirty years old, average looking, medium length hair, and a height of roughly one and a half meters.

The woman broke out into a smile as soon as she saw the brand new tricycles.

She came up to Sean quickly and extended her hand:

“You must be Sean? This batch of merchandise looks very good!”

The old Mr. Madden next to them had not left. He wanted to know how much Sean sold the batch for in the end.

“You can check it first,” Sean pointed to the vehicles and then at two boxes of parts and said, “There are some spare parts and tires there.”

The woman mentioned the vehicles looked fine, but she nevertheless checked them one by one diligently. After inspecting all of the vehicles and having a look at the parts, she clapped the dust off her hands and walked up to Sean and said:

“The inspection is complete. They’re all new and none of them have been damaged. They’re exactly the quality goods I need.”

“That’s good.” Sean didn’t rush to make an offer, always keeping the initiative.

The woman thought Sean would be eager to set a price, but seeing him remain silent, she had to speak up:

“So… 1500 dollars per vehicle, how about it?”

That was a surprisingly good price!

Sean laughed:

“That’s fair. I find this price very reasonable.”

“And, the parts…” The woman hesitated for a second.

Sean stretched out his hand:

“As it’s our first time in business, the parts are on me.”

Forty vehicles made 60,000 dollars, subtracting the cost of 12,000 dollars, the net profit was 48,000 dollars, surpassing Sean’s expectations. Therefore, he didn’t charge for the parts.

“You’re a generous young man. A pleasure to do business!” The woman extended her hand. “I’m Miller. I hope we have the opportunity for more business in the future!”

Sean took the money and pointed to the vehicles:

“Then I won’t help you move them.”

“Okay, okay!” Miller could hardly wait for Sean to leave.

Mr. Madden who stood on the side didn’t expect Miller to offer such a high price, he could only sigh that he’d miscalculated.

Sean took three hundred dollars from the thick wad of money and handed it to Jason:

“This is your share.”

Jason merely helped Sean move the vehicles, and a hundred dollars would have been enough to pay him.

But Sean didn’t want to seem ostentatious, neither did he want to appear too stingy.

Jason happily took the money:

“Thanks, boss!”

Sean noticed that there wasn’t a hint of jealousy or resentment in Jason’s eyes. He knew that Jason didn’t hold any grudges against him because Jason got less even though Sean earned more.

Jason, this black young man, was quite good.

There was another auction in the freight yard in the afternoon, but it was a bit far away.

When Sean and Jason finally arrived, the auction had already started.

Due to the lack of good items, and also because some people intentionally tried to outbid Sean, he didn’t manage to acquire anything.

Sean calculated his earnings from the day, raising his total wealth to just below four hundred thousand.

If he worked a bit harder in the next couple of days, he might be able to reach half a million by the weekend!

Of course, Sean also knew that this was an optimistic estimate. After all, not every container would bring a profit of several tens of thousands of dollars.

After taking the money back to his rental place, he picked up the phone and called Joanna Davis.

“Hello, my dear, what are you up to?”

“I just got out of class.” Joanna sounded happy to hear Sean’s voice, “And you?”

“Just coming back from the freight yard. I have a big plan,” Sean eagerly told Joanna:

“Once I’ve completed this plan, my assets could be on par with your father’s. Maybe then, he’ll finally accept me!”

Joanna was taken aback!

Her father’s assets amount to tens of millions, which is not an amount ordinary people can achieve just through hard work!

“Sean, don’t you dare do anything foolish!” Joanna said worriedly, “Some things, once involved, will ruin your whole life!”

Sean Knight was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, then he burst into laughter.

Did this girl think he was engaging in illegal activities?

He laughed and said:

“Joanna, don’t worry, I won’t do anything illegal. This is a complex matter, and I’m close to success. Once I succeed, I will fill you in!”

“That’s good…” Joanna, who almost unconditionally trusted Sean Knight, gently said, “Sean, I miss you!”

“Then should I come pick you up?” Sean Knight was also moved.

“Okay!” Joanna agreed happily.

The two of them did not go back to Sean’s rental place but spent the night messing around in an inn.

The second day, Sean Knight, energetic and full of life, drove Joanna back to school, and then he headed to the freight yard.

As usual, Mr. John sent Sean Knight the information of containers to be auctioned off.

Sean Knight was now in high spirits, planning to sweep through all the container auctions taking place that day, one by one, according to their schedules!

When he arrived at the first container, he saw Jason Caldwell holding a package and waiting for him.

“Bosuns, this is the breakfast my sister made. Have a taste.” Jason opened his package and handed Sean a small plastic lunch box.

Sean Knight opened it curiously and then laughed.

Meat sandwich!

Not quite authentic. The white bread was stuffed with stir-fried meat and green peppers. It was more of a variation.

Just in time, as he hadn’t had breakfast. Sean Knight took a bite, and while enjoying the sandwich, he asked:

“How many containers this time?”

“Five.” Jason had already found out the details, “They say Mr. Madden, Helen Brown, the Elder and Little Joey brothers, and other big shots will all come.”

Sean Knight was a bit surprised and asked while eating:

“Why are they all coming?”

“I don’t know.” Jason obviously couldn’t find out the reason. He quickly asked:

“Bosuns, how’s the taste?”

“It’s great!” Sean Knight sincerely said, “From now on, I’ll give you 500 dollars each month for my meals. I’ll eat breakfast and lunch at your place.”

“Okay!” Jason was, of course, glad to hear this. They could never finish 500 dollars’ worth of food.

He gave no argument, knowing that Sean didn’t care about such a small sum of money.

The treasure hunters arrived one after another.

Surprisingly, Sean Knight noticed that a few people were looking at him with strange expressions.

What was going on?

Had he attracted hatred towards himself?

He quickly finished the meat sandwich, handed the lunch box back to Jason, took a step forward, and started observing the containers.

Out of the five containers, the fourth one was worth gambling on, because Sean Knight saw something unusual.

This container was filled with dozens of rolls of cloth and an old-fashioned loom.

In a corner, there was a three-layer shelf filled with various items.

On the top layer of the shelf, there was a closed box.

In the box, there was a pile of things that looked like colorful glass — Sean strongly suspected that these were gemstones!

There were polished gems shaped like water droplets, and also some that looked like unprocessed rough stones of irregular shape.

If these gemstones were real, they would be worth several tens of thousands of dollars at least!

But Sean was not sure if they were real or not.

After all, he was not an expert in this field.

This was not like jadeite.

When most people had arrived, the auction began.
