Chapter 86: Unsuccessful act.

[A/N: I’m sorry I went missing without any warning. I’m sure some of you are aware, but I have been sick for a while now. I tend to get better and then fall I’ll again. This time I was admitted to an hospital for greater care and could not do anything, including school. Still, I sincerely apologize. It pains me so much that I have forgotten some of the plot of his book, I truly love this work, I don’t think I can ever make anything better.

If you would still support me, please comment and let me know. If not, I truly respect your opinion, and I’ll simply start again.]

.....

[Here are the potential cards to help you with your current dilemma.]

The system announced.

[PARASITIC] [This card allows you to transfer parasites from one person to the next.]

[ENABLING] [This card allows you to kill off parasites based on the calculation of mana.]

[PQRA] [This card allows one to track down parasites.]

Alaric stared at the cards for a while.

It had been a day since he woke up from his deep sleep.

From what he learned, he was somehow infected by a strange magical parasite that was eating away at him from the inside out.

His mother would always come to give him a medical patch that would help freeze the parasites for a couple of hours before needing to apply another one.

Hands on his cheeks, Alaric sighed, "Just how on earth did I get a parasite inside me, anyway?"

Looking at the cards, he could only focus on one, as that seemed like the best way to heal himself from the sickness.

[ENABLING.]

Although, the price was not something he could laugh about.

[600,000 CP.]

Frowning slightly, Alaric stared at the card.

’I don’t have a choice. It’s for my own health. Yeah, my own health. 600,000 CP is nothing compared to my life.’

Alaric desperately tried to convince himself. And it worked.

With a shaky finger, he clicked the button before him.

[Congratulations on purchasing the Enabling card.]

The moment the card arrived in Alaric’s arsenal, he felt a huge change in his body. It started with a slight shiver, then slowly, he collapsed to his knees.

A few seconds later, he was wrapping his arms around his stomach and puking on the ground.

If there was a horrific sound made to kill the devil, it would be the one he was letting out.

From the very same mouth, a strange red glowing creature spilled onto the ground.

Alaric, at first glance, knew that was the parasite.

"This thing was inside me?" he said out loud.

Then the window showed...

[Name: Mana Parasite.

Special Abilities: Mana Absorption.

Relationship: 100%]

[It would seem the parasite has taken a liking to your body.]

’Or it wants me dead. Someone placed this inside me, right? Not a single person comes to mind.’

Bam! Bam!

Someone knocked on the door.

"Lord Alaric. Sales on the magic wires have come in. I thought I should show it to you."

That was Hina.

Alaric stood up, cleaning the excess vomit from his mouth before opening the door.

Hina was standing on the other side, a pile of papers stacked in her hands.

"Are you alright?" She noticed the bit of distress playing on Alaric’s face.

"I’m doing just fine. So, how much did I make from the wires?"

Alaric began to walk away, grabbing a bag from his table to scoop the parasite inside.

Of course, Hina noticed this, but for some reason, she didn’t question it.

"I heard you were sick. I was at Montclair 2 and didn’t have the time to come check for myself."

"Well, I’m not the kind of man who plans to let sickness get in the way of my work. Which means you don’t have to worry about that."

He gently sat down in his chair.

"Is that so? You never fail to amaze me, Lord Alaric."

"Part of the job. Now then, tell me about the sales. I’m expecting some huge passive income."

"It’s exactly as you said it."

...

Bam!

The apple dropped to the ground.

It was then followed by the sound of blades being sharpened.

Gabimaru was seated on a rock inside a small cave, rubbing his knives against one another to sharpen them.

Around him, in that very cave, were five other individuals, every single one of them dressed in all black.

He had found a small cave somewhere in the Montclair Barony.

Suddenly, Gabimaru grunted, "I can feel your desperation from here. Why are you all so eager to kill the boy?" he asked.

Immediately, he was met with a response from one of his men—

"He killed one of ours. It’s only fair we do the same to him."

"Revenge. Something that runs through the blood of men. Even my own men can’t escape it. I must have failed as a leader."

Gabimaru stood up.

This single movement made the rest of them flinch a bit.

"Our guest is here."

From nowhere, a figure dressed in a black cloak appeared at the entrance of the cave.

"I was starting to doubt if you’d actually come, considering your relationship with the boy."

The figure spoke back, "And I thought we agreed you’d be quiet. Ava is more sensitive than you think."

Gabimaru scratched the back of his head. "My men really are disappointing," he said.

He continued, "So, did it work?"

The individual stayed quiet for a while.

"It was foolish of me to assume you could take down Lord Alaric that easily. He is on a different level. I’m not even surprised."

Gabimaru frowned. "In other words, he is still alive."

"Very much so," replied the individual with a female voice. "He has gotten rid of your parasite skill. Turns out it was useless."

Gabimaru sighed. "Honestly, that dude has always been strange. There’s no surprise there. So? Do you have another plan, or do you want us to storm in there and just kill him with brute force?"

The cloaked woman stayed quiet for a while. "You really underestimate that man. He not only has two powerful summons, but he has a Diamond-rank swordsman with him. Not to mention the abilities he himself possesses. I assure you, you won’t stand a chance against him."

"So what’s the plan then? My lord wants him dead. I came here to fulfill that. And if I remember correctly, you want him dead just as much as I do, right, legendary healer, Hina?"

"I heard you built something impressive in the barony. A magic artifact that can light up the environment when the light is down..."

Alaric smirked. "You heard right. And soon, you’ll be getting the stamp of approval from the four merchants."

As Alaric spoke, Sima couldn’t help but feel proud of his accomplishments, a small smile forming on her face as she stared at him.

Ava spotted this, her face frozen with surprise.

"You managed to convince the merchants?" Velmo asked, his face now holding a serious expression.

"Did you think I wouldn’t be able to? Are you surprised, Count Velmo?" Alaric smiled.

"Indeed, I am," Velmo replied.

Yet, in his mind, he couldn’t help but recall the words his commander told him.

"Can Alaric really be a threat to the kingdom?"

The feats he accomplished were far too grand.

How could one generate so much power from a huge box and a water wheel?

This thought resonated inside Velmo’s head.

Smiling, he spoke again...

"Is it fine if we speak in private, with no one else around?"

He stylishly looked at Ava, who, in turn, glared at him.

She still didn’t like him.

"You want to speak in private?" Alaric inquired.

"Yes. Is that something you can’t do?"

"I mean—sure..."

Alaric turned his attention to Ava.

"I don’t think it’s safe to leave you alone with this man," Ava whispered in Alaric’s ear. "And you shouldn’t trust every word he says either."

Alaric shifted his gaze back to the Count.

"I should be fine. Don’t worry. Wait outside the office," he replied.

Ava was not comfortable with it. This was the same man who had tried to kiss her for no reason.

She looked at him, and just like always, she could clearly see the devious smirk on his face.

Ava sighed.

"Don’t hesitate to call out to me if you need me."

And with that, she walked out of the room, Sima following right behind her.
