Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 51: Thundering sniper
"My lord, I have returned to you."
The man in black spoke, kneeling next to the table where Neuk was seated.
Scanning his soldier, Neuk noticed he was almost naked, his clothes burned off.
"What happened? Did you get my supplies?"
The soldier lowered his head a bit in shame. "I’m sorry, my Lord. The Baron’s son had a very powerful knight with him, the one rumored to be a diamond rank. She killed every single one of my men. I only managed to escape because I blew up the warehouse."
As he listened to his soldier, Neuk couldn’t help but show a bit of disgust on his face.
"So not only did you come back empty-handed, you made me lose my soldiers too? Yanal, you know how I feel about failures and disappointment."
Neuk slowly tapped his fingers on the table as he carried the same disgust on his face.
There was nothing Yanal could do. Though he was the lead commander of the Barony, he was still no match for Neuk’s rage.
"I’m sorry, my Lord. Give me a chance to redeem myself," he offered.
"Of course. Did you think I’d let you do this and not cover up for your disappointment?" Neuk stood up from the chair and began to walk toward the window.
Slightly raising his head, he responded, "What would you have me do?"
Halting in front of the window, Neuk grinned for a while.
"The only reason that barony is doing well these days is simply because Rashin’s son has finally decided to leave his irresponsible ways and turn a good leaf. Without that, Rashin has no idea how to run a barony. Do you see where I am going with this?"
"Y...you want me to kill the son of the Baron?"
"... Precisely. With him out of the way, the Barony should go back to being worthless. Just the way I like it, so I can leech off it as many times as I want." Neuk’s sadistic smile reflected on the window.
Thinking back, he remembered even some of the soldiers and maids under him were from the Montclair Baron. He legit stole them as if they were his to begin with.
That was simply the kind of man Neuk was.
And his subject knew far too well how devious of a man he could be.
From increasing the taxes to completely ruling his barony with oppression and punishment, disguised in an iron fist.
Gulping down his saliva, Yanal spoke, "If you wish for the death of the young lord, then I shall do well to abide by that."
Yanal, being a Gold rank warrior almost reaching Platinum, had won many battles. And still, the woman who he met at the warehouse happened to be one he dared not try to cross again.
She had the white aura.
A type of aura only people on diamond rank could possess. One that lets them completely nullify other types of aura. If he ever crossed paths with her... his chances of winning were less than none.
"EMERGENCY!!! WE ARE UNDER ATTACK! EMERGENCY!"
Both Neuk and Yanal picked up on the voice coming from outside the mansion.
"Bandits?" Neuk mumbled under his breath. Those were the only people he could think of that would try to attack his barony in the night.
"We are under attack!"
One of the soldiers barged into the office.
"What do you mean? By who?" Yanal stood up, picking up his blade.
"The Montclairs!"
Shock spread across their faces.
Right in the Neuk Barony, the screams of people had begun to echo.
Mothers and children ran for their lives as men on horses chased them with burning torches.
Men made sure to protect their families, hiding them in places they felt would be safer.
Fire spread, burning everything it touched, from buildings to the wagons, even some soldiers got caught in the intense flames.
While this was happening, soldiers under Neuk began to crawl out in numbers, scattering across the barony to put down the intruders as fast as they could.
With Yanal leading the charge and Neuk watching from the window of his office, the Neuk Barony was set out to defend their land.
One thing was certain: never in a million years did they ever think the Montclair family would retaliate, not to speak of an ambush.
"Kill them all! Every single one of them, send them back to where they came from!!!"
Chants echoed within the crackling sound of the burning homes.
Meanwhile, Alaric was seated on a horse, stationed at the entrance of the barony.
Beside him was Stefin, the second in command in his army, and Ava, the first commander.
Having a measly 48 soldiers under him compared to the 300+ soldiers Neuk had, it was clear Alaric had the short end of the stick.
Yet, backing down wasn’t an option, neither was losing.
"My soldiers are sending the citizens off with the flames. It worked, but now the Neuk army is out on the offense," Stefin reported.
"Expected." Alaric looked at Ava. "You can take it from here."
Ava had the rest of the soldiers behind her, who were waiting for their next orders.
"Gladly." Ava pulled out her blade, the men behind her doing just the same.
"Our enemy approaches! Charge!"
"Ahhhhh!!!"
One by one, each soldier charged forward.
But they didn’t all take the same route, no, they spread out, as if trying to corner the entirety of the barony.
As soon as Ava left, Stefin began to make his own move, taking some of the soldiers who were already in the village with him to scare the citizens into a safe spot.
"It has begun," Alaric blurted out.
Once it came to battles or anything that involved his utmost attention, he immediately became Henry, the soldier that was sent to another world.
"Laura, are you in your position?" he spoke.
(Yes, master, I’m there...)
Laura responded.
She was standing on a high hill, where she could easily see the entirety of the Neuk Barony.
"Okay. Take the shot then."
(As you wish.)
Laura proceeded to stretch her hand forward, as if trying to pull an invisible arrow.
Gradually, blue lightning began to form, taking the shape of a bow connected to a long spark that Laura had begun to pull.
Additionally, her left eye had a small magic circle. Not only does it increase her aim by 1000%, but it also allows her to get a clear view of whatever she targets, no matter how far.
With the arrow fully charged, Laura was ready to execute her attack.
"Go... Kill my enemies." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
As she muttered those words, a huge sonic boom erupted from her body before the lightning arrow went charging forward.
Right at the center of the barony, the soldiers were closing in on each other.
They could already spot each other from far, and they were more than ready to clash.
Neuk’s soldiers were not afraid. They had numbers on their side; they could easily overpower their opponent.
Or so they thought—
From nowhere, a huge thunder struck right in the center of their ranks.
-Boom!
A huge explosion occurred, taking out a huge number of soldiers, their body parts falling to the ground with flames eating them.
"What? An attack?"
One of the soldiers halted, his face etched with fear as he kept looking around, wondering where the attack came from.
The Montclair soldiers were still coming in hard, their roars causing the earth to vibrate.
Finally, someone spotted it—
"Commander, look! To your right!"
Yanal paused immediately, looking towards the right only to see about six different powerful thunder-like arrows falling toward their direction.
"Shit! A sniper! Quick, everyone scatter!"
No one wasted any time.
They began running through buildings and corners to escape the next explosion that would happen once the thunder connected to the ground.
But something happened that they didn’t expect.
Every corner they entered, a Montclair soldier was waiting there with their weapons drawn. And since all the Neuk army had on their mind was to escape the lightning, they couldn’t react fast enough to counter.
One by one, the soldiers dropped dead, bodies piling as Montclairs waited for them to arrive, just to stab them in the stomach.
The same almost happened to Yanal, who took a leap in between two buildings just to meet Ava waiting there with her blade aimed, and aura circling her body.
His eyes widened in shock, ’W...e are being cornered?!’
He acted fast, stabbing his blade into the wall so he could reduce the speed of his fall.
The instant he was close to the ground, he gripped the hilt of his blade well, getting ready to slash at it.
Deep down, he knew he didn’t stand a chance, not against a diamond rank. Still, he was a knight, and knights do not simply cower because their chances are slim.
With a huge yell, his blade connected with Ava’s, their faces nearly touching.
"You people have grown some balls. How could you have thought... you’d actually think of attacking this barony!"
