Edith nearly choked on her wine. She hurriedly covered her mouth, eyes widening in shock. A second later, warmth rushed to her cheeks, staining them a deep red.
"I—"
"I want the truth," he said calmly.
Her mind went blank. Her palms grew damp as panic set in. Zara's words from a month ago flashed through her head.
'Did she tell him everything?' she wondered.
"The thing is… I…" she stammered. "I didn't mean to upset you… I…"
Her thoughts tangled together. She was too nervous, too overwhelmed to say yes, or to deny it. She didn't even know what she was trying to explain.
"Will you marry me?" Liam asked without the slightest hesitation.
Edith sucked in a sharp breath, her ears ringing. For a moment, she thought she had misheard him. "You… want to marry me?"
He nodded without wavering. "Yes. Do you want to spend your life with me?"
A rush of emotions crashed into her all at once. This was everything she had ever wished for, yet she had never truly believed it would happen.
"You…" Tears shimmered in her eyes. "You are not joking, are you?"
"I'm serious, Edith," he said steadily. "I want to start a family, and you are the most suitable partner."
Edith's heart lifted, but doubt quickly followed. She needed to know why he had chosen her so suddenly.
Was it because Zara had said something to him? Or had he truly developed feelings for her?
"Why me?" she asked softly. "You are the sole heir of the Lawson family, the most sought-after bachelor in the city, and a renowned designer. I'm just your assistant. Marrying you feels like a dream come true for me, but you… you could marry any woman from an elite family. Why do you want me as your wife?"
After a brief pause, she gathered her courage and asked, "Do you have feelings for me?"
Feelings.
Liam wasn't entirely sure whether what he felt was love or simply attraction. But one thing he knew for certain—she was the woman he wanted to spend his life with.
"I do feel something for you, Edith," he said honestly. "We've known each other for a long time. Of course, there is something in my heart for you. I just can't say for sure whether it's love yet. But I promise I'll try my best to be a good husband. My loyalty will belong only to you. I want to grow old with you."
Her heart fluttered even harder. Loyalty and trust were enough for her, and she believed that, with time, she could make him fall in love with her.
"Yes," she whispered. "I want the same."
Liam let out a quiet breath of relief and reached for her hands. Edith placed hers in his.
"I don't have a ring right now," he said. "But I promise I'll buy one for you tomorrow."
Edith smiled so brightly it seemed impossible to stop. No matter the reason, whether Zara had influenced him or not, she had finally won the man she had loved for so long.
'Thank you, Zara,' she whispered silently. 'Thank you so much.'

In the dimly lit room, Nathaniel kissed Zara until she felt dizzy, his hands roaming over her as if he needed to reassure himself she was truly there.
Each kiss only made him crave her more. With urgency, he tugged his shirt off, never once breaking the kiss.
"Oh, Zara," he murmured against her lips. "You have no idea how much I missed you."
"I missed you more than you can imagine," she breathed back.
"Mmm…" He kissed her harder, deeper. "I can never get enough of you."
Zara responded with equal passion, lost in him. Her phone rang, cutting sharply through the moment.
She reached for it instinctively.
"Leave it," Nathaniel said, catching her hand. "Don't ruin this."
"It might be important. Let me check," Zara urged.
"God, don't look at me like that," he groaned. "You know I can't refuse you."
"Then don't stop me," she teased, pushing him aside as she grabbed her phone.
Seeing Edith's name on the screen, she answered immediately.
"Hello?"
"You won't believe what happened tonight," Edith whispered excitedly.
Zara frowned, alarm flickering in her eyes. Edith sounded secretive. "What is it? Did something go wrong at the party?"
"Not at the party."
That only confused Zara more.
"It's Liam…" Edith's voice trembled with excitement. "He… proposed to me."
"What?" Zara gasped, sitting bolt upright.
Nathaniel pulled back, staring at her in startled silence.
"Surprised? I was, too," Edith continued. "He took me to his private villa and arranged a candlelight dinner."
"Really?" Zara's shock deepened.
"Yes. He wants to marry me."
"That's amazing." A wide smile broke on Zara's face.
"All thanks to you," Edith added. "You talked to him, didn't you? You must have told him how I feel about him."
Zara hesitated. She had, in fact, spoken to Liam and hinted at Edith's feelings for him, but she didn't want to take the credit.
"No, that's not true," she denied it. "He noticed you on his own. He chose you."
"Really?" Edith sounded doubtful.
"Isn't that what you wanted?" Zara replied. "He finally saw your love. That's what matters. Don't overthink how it happened. Just treasure this moment."
Edith laughed softly. "You are right. I should focus on him and this moment. Sorry for calling so late. I'll hang up now. Good night."
The call ended.
Zara's smile lingered as she set the phone aside. When she turned around, she found Nathaniel watching her intently.
"That was Edith," she explained. "She is getting married to your best friend."
"You mean Liam?" Nathaniel blinked in disbelief. "That guy is getting married?" He scoffed. "Don't fall for his tricks. He is probably fooling that poor woman. Tell her to stay away from him."
"Come on, Nathaniel. Liam isn't a Playboy."
"Are you taking his side now?" he asked, frowning.
"Yes. He is my friend. Of course I'll defend him."
"What about me?" He pointed at himself, clearly jealous.
Zara laughed and looped her arms around his neck. "You are my whole world."
His smile returned instantly. He pulled her closer. "And you are mine. Don't side with another man. I don't like it."
"You are still jealous, even though you know I only love you," she pretended to be annoyed.
"I can't help it," he admitted. "This jealousy—I can't get over it. You'll just have to put up with me."
Zara shot him a sideways glance, her cheeks aching as she tried and failed not to smile. Her lips curved upward despite herself.
"Enough of sulking," he murmured, brushing kisses along her neck. "I'm running out of patience. I want you. Shall we continue?"
Zara softened instantly in his arms. "I'm all yours," she whispered, giving herself over to him completely.

Three years later…
"Yes, finalize the deal," Nathaniel said into the phone as he stirred the pasta on the stove. "Send a copy to the Lawson Group as well."
"Consider it done, sir," Roberto replied. "Congratulations on yet another successful deal."
Nathaniel smiled.
"Daddy, I'm hungry," Zane's loud voice rang out from the dining area before Nathaniel could respond.
"Just a minute," Nathaniel called back. "The pasta is almost ready."
"You are cooking?" Roberto asked, clearly stunned. A business tycoon whose empire was expanding every day was cooking pasta for his children. He tried to imagine how Nathaniel stood in the kitchen, holding the spatula and stirring the pasta.
"Kids love pasta," Nathaniel replied casually. "We'll talk later, or they'll start yelling."
"Of course. I won't disturb you," Roberto said quickly. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
The line went dead.
Nathaniel tucked his phone into the pocket of his apron and glanced at his children waiting expectantly at the table.
"Pasta is coming. Excited?" he asked.
"No," Zane groaned. "It's boring now. I've been waiting for half an hour."
Nathaniel's smile slipped for a second, then returned. "It's okay. Once you eat it, you'll like it."
He dished the pasta into bowls and carried them out. His gaze softened as it landed on the little girl sitting beside Zane.
"Mia, sweetheart, ready to try the pasta?" he asked.
She nodded eagerly, flashing a grin that revealed two neat rows of pearly white teeth.
"This one is for the big boy," he said, setting another bowl in front of Zane.
"It smells nice," Zane admitted. "Let me see if it tastes good."
He took a bite, then shrugged. "Hmm, not bad. But Mommy cooks better."
Nathaniel chuckled. "Don't worry. I'll get better."
"It's yummy," Mia said sincerely.
"Thank you, my princess," Nathaniel bent down to kiss her cheek.
The sound of the door opening echoed through the house. Nathaniel lifted his gaze toward the entrance and saw Zara step inside.
"You are home," he walked over with a smile and wrapped his arms around her. "How did it go?"
Zara relaxed against him, releasing a tired breath. "It's finally done. The brand is officially established. And in a couple of months, we'll be hosting our first show under the brand name."
His eyes lit up. "Then that calls for a celebration."
"Mmm." She nodded, pulling back to look at him. "Yes… it really does."
He bent down, about to kiss her.
She stopped him with a finger pressed lightly against his lips. "I have something for you."
His brows lifted in curiosity. "Something important enough to interrupt my kiss?"
"A surprise," she said, smiling mysteriously as she reached into her bag and took out an envelope. "Take a look."
Nathaniel opened it, intrigued. As he unfolded the paper and read, his expression went utterly still.
It was a medical report that clearly stated Zara was twelve weeks pregnant.
"This…" His breath caught as his heart surged. "You are— I'm going to be a father again!" His voice rang out, filling the house.
Zara nodded, unable to stop her smile from spreading. "My period was late for days. At first, I thought it was just stress from all the pressure of building the brand. But then I decided to get tested, and…" She gestured to the report in his hand. "That's the result."
"Uh…Zara…" He laughed, overwhelmed. "This is the best news I've had all day."
Pulling her close, he rested his forehead against hers before lowering his head to capture her lips in a deep, joyful kiss.
"Mamma," Mia called as she ran over with her brother.
"Daddy, are you kissing Mommy?" Zane asked bluntly.
Nathaniel and Zara quickly stepped apart, exchanging sheepish laughs.
"I was just telling your mommy how happy I am." Nathaniel lifted Mia into his arms. "We are going to have another baby."
Zane's face lit up instantly. "You are getting me another sister!"
Zara laughed and wrapped an arm around him. "Sweetheart, it could be a baby brother, too. We don't know yet."
"I want a little sister like Mia," Zane demanded.
"I want a brother," Mia chimed in.
Zara and Nathaniel both burst out laughing.
Nathaniel circled his arm around Zara's waist, pulling her closer. For a fleeting moment, memories of those days filled with doubt, distance, and unspoken fears brushed past him. At the time, happiness like this had felt almost out of reach.
Now, she was here, unquestionably his.
"Whether it's a boy or a girl," Nathaniel said quietly, his thumb brushing against Zara's side, "we'll welcome this baby with all the love we have."
Zara leaned into him, her fingers curling into his shirt. She lifted her face, her eyes soft, shining with love.
Nathaniel pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. "With you and our children, I'm the luckiest man in the world."
Zara smiled. The peaceful life was what she had always dreamed of. This time, she knew nothing would take this away. He would always belong to her.
The End.
