Chapter 438: A World Without You (2)

Lennox returned home, and Adrienne decided to follow him. His silence spoke volumes about the depth of his grief. Adrienne tried to touch him, but again, her hand went past him, and she couldn’t do anything but watch him in silence.

Adrienne wasn’t surprised when she saw that Lennox lived in the same house at Jinxiu Garden. She smiled inwardly. However, the atmosphere felt different from what she used to. The air seemed heavier, and the place had an eerie tension.

She was also surprised that Butler Cheng still served Lennox despite his old age. Adrienne wondered if Lennox knew the identity of his birth father by now and if he had accepted him. Adrienne couldn’t help but feel a sense of curiosity and concern for Lennox’s well-being.

The same interior design of their house greeted her when she followed him inside, albeit slightly rearranged and with a few new additions. If this was what their home would look like ten years from now, then it was clear that Lennox had put a lot of effort into making it comfortable and inviting.

Lennox removed his coat and went straight to his bedroom. He sat on the bed and ran a hand through his thick hair. Adrienne then noticed that he had a few silvery strands mixed in with his dark locks. She wondered how old Lennox was at that time.

She glanced at the bedside clock on the nightstand and realized it was already past midnight. The year was also indicated; it had been over two years since her death. Lennox should be in his early 40s by now, and yet Adrienne didn’t see any trace of female presence around the house.

Did Lennox not marry in this lifetime? She wondered.

Despite his age, Adrienne thought that it was still possible for Lennox to find love and get married in the future. Did something stop him from finding a suitable wife and starting a family?

A knock was heard from Lennox’s door as if the heavens wanted to answer her question.

"Enter," Lennox said, and a familiar person entered the room, though he looked older than Adrienne remembered. It was Noah, her adoptive son and Lennox’s paternal cousin.

Adrienne’s eyes shone with tears as she looked at Noah. Noah grew up as a young, handsome man with a kind smile that melted her heart. She was relieved that Lennox still sought Richard Qin’s children and looked after them despite her not being in the picture.

Noah must be in his early twenties by now. He had dark, tousled hair that fell into his eyes in a charmingly disheveled way. His strong jawline and defined cheekbones gave him a striking and confident appearance. His eyes sparkled with intelligence and warmth. Despite his youth, there was a maturity in his demeanor that was hard to ignore.

"Nox, are you alright? You don’t need to attend the party if you’re not feeling up to it," he said, concerned for his well-being.

Lennox held his forehead and sighed. "Yes, I suppose you are right. I’ll stay home and rest. Tell my mother I’ll see her soon."

"Alright. Sam and Scarlett will be disappointed, but they’ll understand." Noah said before deciding to leave Lennox alone. He knew that his brother was still grieving over Gavin’s death. He wanted to give Lennox some space to heal but knew it would take time before Lennox could fully recover from the loss.

Adrienne followed Noah outside but gave Lennox a good look, seeing him cry over losing his best friend.

When she followed Noah, Adrienne then saw Samantha and Scarlett waiting for him outside the hallway. They were already grown up, and Adrienne smiled at how much they had changed over the years. She couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and nostalgia.

"How is he?" Samantha asked. She was dressed in a business suit, her hair tied back neatly in a bun.

Adrienne thought Samantha was beautiful.

"He’s not okay." Noah sighed. "I think Nox needs some time alone to process everything."

"Then let’s give it to him," Scarlett commented. "He spent years raising and looking after us rather than prioritizing himself."

They fell into a comfortable silence, reflecting on their shared experiences. They went down only to find the rest of their brothers waiting for them with worried expressions. They heard the news of Gavin’s death and rushed home to see Lennox.

Noah repeated what he said to his sisters earlier to his brothers. All of them decided to stay home and be there for Lennox. They all feared what would happen next and how Lennox would cope with the loss.

"I can’t believe Nox has to go through this," Liam exclaimed, his voice filled with sadness and concern.

"He’s always looking after us and never asks for anything in return, but we have to be there for him now." Vaughn agreed with him. "We owe it to him to provide support and comfort during this difficult time."

"He and Gavin already completely destroyed Alistair Han and the Jiang family, but it won’t change what happened. It won’t change the pain and suffering they have caused Gavin." Vincent said, his eyes filled with sadness for his older brother.

They all thought Lennox didn’t deserve to be hurt like this, but they could do nothing to undo the damage. They also felt bad for Gavin after knowing what he had endured for years. Aside from Lennox, Gavin had helped them pick up their lives and find happiness again.

They sat in the living room in silence; each lost in their thoughts. Others said Lennox had already passed his prime and had wasted his time when he chose to raise his father’s children from his affairs. However, for the five of them, Lennox was their anchor, their guiding light, and the one who held the power to bring them together and help them find happiness again after experiencing struggle and heartache.

They felt guilt for taking Lennox’s time and attention away from his life and future. Lennox could have focused on his goals and started a family if they hadn’t been there. But Lennox said he didn’t regret his choices.

Lennox focused on his work and raising his father’s children, prioritizing their well-being above his own desires. Despite his sacrifices, Lennox found fulfillment in seeing the children grow and thrive under his care. He knew that he had made the right decision.
