Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna-Chapter 148: The real supreme Luna
Ember, who was just as stunned and bewildered by Sebastian’s reaction and had been standing there with her jaw slack, was jolted out of her daze by Leni’s grip. She looked at the murderous expression burning in the supreme Alpha’s eyes and swallowed hard. How was she going to step in to stop him? She hadn’t even spoken to him since her arrival to his pack and he hadn’t come to see her to give her a welcome.
However, she couldn’t just let her composure crumble in front of everyone who had been respecting her, she had to show that she had some measure of control over her man in front of the onlookers. And so Ember stepped forward to address Sebastian, but the glare he shot in her direction was enough to bring Ember, and every single person standing around them, crashing down to their knees in submission.
Sebastian’s eyes zeroed back in on Evan, who was making a feeble and desperate attempt to free his windpipe, producing hoarse, strangled sounds like a man standing at the very gate of hell. But Sebastian had no intention of releasing him, not until he had personally escorted him through that gate and watched him suffer for what he had done to his little hellcat.
Sebastian would have strangled Evan to death had it not been for the tug he felt at his trouser leg that made him look down. Viola was tugging at his trousers from the floor, as though trying to physically pull him back from the man he was strangling.
Though she was clearly in pain and her expression did nothing to hide it, squinting up at him without her glasses, struggling to make out his face, her voice was steady and clear enough to cut through the consuming fog of Sebastian’s fury.
"Let go of him. Don’t kill him..." She moaned pleadingly, and her pleading expression did nothing but add more fuel to Sebastian’s rage, for he had expected that after what the scum had just done to her, she would be demanding his life rather than begging for mercy on his behalf!
He hadn’t known her to be the kind to plead for someone who had hurt her, and seeing her do it and add the word please to her lips, Sebastian released Evan’s throat. The man crumpled to the floor, coughing violently.
However, Sebastian’s expression and mood darkened further alongside the burning anger still raging inside him. Why the hell had she pleaded for his life? He thought, eyes dropping to where she was hunched over clutching her stomach, moaning, with blood trailing from the corner of her mouth.
Despite his visible displeasure and the anger still simmering beneath his skin, Sebastian bent down and gathered her up into his arms. She turned into his chest immediately, burying her face there and clutching the front of his shirt in tight fists as she moaned softly in agony.
She kept trying to curl her knees upward as though wanting them to press against her aching stomach for support, but being held in his arms in a princess carry made that position impossible, and that small, desperate movement alone told Sebastian exactly how much damage the kick to her stomach had done.
A vein surfaced on his forehead and along his neck, his arms tightening protectively around her as he turned and swept his cold eyes over the stunned onlookers who had stood and watched her get beaten without a single one of them stepping forward to stop it.
"Every single one of you here will pay dearly for standing by and watching the future supreme Luna get hit and humiliated by a nobody like this. And you and I are not finished yet, Evan!" Came Sebastian’s frigid words that sliced clean through the air, causing those who hadn’t known that Viola was the future supreme Luna to gasp in shock and disbelief and tremble where they knelt on the floor in fear. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
So she was the future supreme Luna, and not Ember, whom they had all been falling over themselves to please? How could Viola have turned out to be the one? The Moonwillow members were reeling with that thought as they watched the supreme Alpha walk away from them with the wolfless woman held in his arms, his strides so long and purposeful that in no time at all he had reached his private elevator and the doors were sliding shut behind him.
It was only after he was gone that many of them released the breath they had been holding and sagged to the floor, clutching their rapidly beating hearts. However, the moment the relief of no longer having him in their presence washed over them, the full weight of his words came crashing back and they all turned to look at Ember.
"What does the supreme Alpha mean, Miss Ember?" Questioned Leni, who was supporting her mate as he was still bent over coughing, rubbing at his throat and looking just as stunned as everyone else around them.
"Miss Ember, aren’t you the future supreme Luna?" Beta Eliot, who had chosen to act along with his family as though he didn’t know who Viola was, despite having raised the girl for years, also asked, genuinely unable to make sense of why the supreme Alpha would say such a thing.
How could that useless girl be his future wife? That girl had been nothing but a disappointment to them, and unless they had all misheard what they thought they heard, there was simply no way it was possible that she was the future supreme Luna!
Ember, however, was slowly piecing things together, connecting the missing gaps one by one, and she stared ahead like someone who couldn’t bring herself to believe what was becoming undeniably clear.
She had been the one to take Viola to the North Pack, which technically made her a member of it, and the fact that Viola had gone missing on the very same day the supreme Alpha had rejected Ember as a supposed wife made everything crystal clear in an instant. That realization drained the color from Ember’s face until she went as pale as a ghost.
Ember raised her head to find everyone staring at her expectantly, and unable to bear the humiliation of standing there and admitting that she was not the future supreme Luna, that a wolfless woman had taken the position she had trained her entire life for, she rose to her feet, turned on her heels, and fled with her palm clasped tightly against her mouth, disappearing from the lobby in shame.
The Moonwillow guests could only stare after her in stunned astonishment..
