Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 58: Hubby, Here’s a Little Heart for You
Pantheon: "..."
He coughed violently, clearly thunderstruck by what Mortimer Quincy had just said.
But his first reaction wasn’t about cousins becoming a couple. It was that Mortimer Quincy actually had a girlfriend!
He actually had a girlfriend!
The news was unbelievable.
His jaw dropped, and he blurted out his thoughts, "Mortimer Quincy, you actually have a girlfriend."
While they were talking, their characters in the game had already been killed.
The screen displayed "GAME OVER."
Mortimer Quincy’s eyes narrowed slightly as he tugged at the collar of his black mock-neck sweater. "Why can’t I have a girlfriend? Explain yourself."
In his past life, they had the same ghost-like expression when they found out he had a girlfriend.
’Why can’t I have a girlfriend?’ he wondered.
Enduring Mortimer’s murderous glare, Pantheon said timidly, "I just think with your personality, you’re destined to be a bachelor for life." As soon as he finished, he ducked behind Zeke Zane.
He was telling the truth, the absolute truth.
Mortimer Quincy had always given girls the cold, "don’t-bother-me" treatment.
Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but not by much.
As a friend, it was barely tolerable. As a boyfriend, he was completely unsuitable.
He gave Holly Winslow a look that screamed, ’What were you thinking?’
Finally, someone who saw things her way. Holly Winslow couldn’t stop laughing, but she immediately composed herself when she met Mortimer Quincy’s gaze.
She reached out and poked his arm, offering a small bit of comfort. "You get good grades." After saying that, she couldn’t help but chuckle again.
’So I’m not the only one who thought Mortimer Quincy would be a bachelor for life.’
Her one sentence had unintentionally hurt two people.
Pantheon: "..."
Zeke Zane: "..."
Pantheon clutched his chest and said mournfully, "Sis-in-law, your words have wounded me."
Hearing the term "Sis-in-law," Holly Winslow coughed sharply a few times. She then raised her wrist to check her watch. It was five minutes until the results would be posted. "We should go."
Mortimer Quincy, barely placated, picked up the pink backpack and slung it over his shoulder. He shot Pantheon a sidelong glance. "Keep your mouth shut."
Pantheon nodded hurriedly, raising a hand to swear, "Don’t worry, Boss Quincy, I won’t tell a soul. Is the all-nighter on Sunday still on?"
"It’s on."
Mortimer Quincy watched Holly Winslow wrap her scarf properly, then roll down her sleeves, looking as obedient as a grade schooler.
Once she was ready, he took his little grade schooler by the hand and led her out of the internet cafe.
Pantheon walked behind with an arm around Zeke Zane’s shoulders, giving him a look that said, ’Some friend you are.’ "Zeke Zane, how could you hide something as earth-shattering as Mortimer Quincy having a girlfriend from me? Not cool, man. I almost called our sis-in-law ’wifey’ just now."
"If I’d actually said it, Mortimer Quincy would have strangled me on the spot."
Zeke Zane gave him a look that said, ’As long as you realize it.’ "You’re the idiot."
"Me, an idiot? I thought they were cousins. Who would think cousins are dating?"
Pantheon was a little dejected. Then, he clicked his tongue a few times. "TSK TSK TSK," he said with an expression of feigned fear. "Passing off your girlfriend as your cousin... I wouldn’t even dare to think of something like that. If my mom found out, she’d break my legs."
Zeke Zane pushed him away, saying disdainfully, "Why don’t you get a girlfriend first before you talk."
Pantheon took critical damage. "..."
"Zeke Zane! You don’t have a girlfriend either!"
"My grades are better than yours."
Zeke Zane had been taking 10,000-point critical hits from Mortimer Quincy lately, so Pantheon’s words only dealt 0.1 points of damage to him.
At the mention of grades, Pantheon took a 10,000-point critical hit. "Zeke Zane, you just wait! I’ll definitely score better than you on the final exams."
Zeke Zane was completely unfazed by the threat. "With your crappy English? Not even in your next life."
Pantheon: "..."
After losing face to both Mortimer Quincy and Zeke Zane, he turned his attention to the well-behaved Holly Winslow. He hurried to catch up. "Sis-in-law..." ’How are your grades?’
Before he could finish, Mortimer Quincy cut him off, mercilessly landing another critical hit. "Don’t even think about it. Your sis-in-law got a perfect score in English. 150."
Pantheon: "..."
’You guys are savage.’
Then it dawned on him, and his eyes filled with admiration. "Sis-in-law, you got a perfect score in English? That’s amazing! You gotta carry me! In games too!"
Holly Winslow grew flustered from him calling her "Sis-in-law" over and over. She touched the tip of her nose. "Okay."
"Sis-in-law, you’re the best! What do you want to drink? My treat." Pantheon had finally found a normal person.
Holly Winslow quickly waved her hands. "I don’t want anything. And please don’t call me Sis-in-law. You can call me Holly Winslow."
"Sis-in-law, how about I call you Holly, then? It’s more familiar..."
Before Pantheon could finish, Mortimer Quincy pushed him away. He then pulled Holly Winslow close, saying unhappily, "Stay away from my girlfriend."
Pantheon: "..."
He wanted to roll his eyes so hard.
...
They took their seats in the same order as for the exam. The test papers were already on the desks. Holly Winslow had scored an eighty-nine, just one point shy of a passing grade.
’That’s much better than I expected.’
At that moment, the teacher on the stage announced, "The results of the math competition are out. I would now like to congratulate the top three winners."
"First place goes to student Mortimer Quincy, with a perfect score of 150 and a prize of 500 yuan. Second place goes to Pantheon, with 139 points and a prize of 300 yuan. Third place is Zeke Zane, with 136 points and a prize of 100 yuan. Will the three winners please come to the stage to receive your awards?"
Aside from the teachers from Jarton High, who were delighted, the other teachers weren’t too happy. Although they had expected this outcome, it was still quite demoralizing.
Holly Winslow hadn’t expected Pantheon’s math score to be so high. ’It’s true what they say,’ she thought. ’People who hang out with brainiacs are brainiacs themselves.’
Mortimer Quincy stood up. As he passed Holly Winslow, he paused to glance at her test paper. ’Eighty-nine. Not bad at all,’ he thought. ’A few points higher than I expected.’ 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
The teachers presented the three with their awards. After receiving their certificates and trophies, they posed for individual photos, followed by a final group photo with all the teachers.
Holly Winslow saw Mortimer Quincy say a few words to the student with the camera, then wave her over.
Instantly, every student in the exam hall turned to look at her.
Holly Winslow hesitated for a moment before standing up and walking over. She looked up at him and whispered, "What is it?"
Mortimer Quincy handed her the trophy, then put an arm around her shoulders and turned her toward the camera. In a voice only the two of them could hear, he said, "Come on, let your hubby present you with an award. Wifey did a great job on her test this time."
Before Holly Winslow could react, the student with the camera had already snapped several photos of them.
Mortimer Quincy exchanged numbers with the student, telling him to get in touch once the photos were developed.
Holly Winslow boarded the Jarton Second High chartered bus, holding the trophy "awarded" to her by Scholar Quincy. She sat by the window and looked out at Mortimer Quincy, who hadn’t left yet. He was looking back at her, the sunlight casting a yellowish glow on his short, layered hair.
She breathed onto the windowpane and drew a heart. Then, she took out her phone and sent Mortimer Quincy a message: "Hubby, a little heart for you."
Mortimer Quincy replied quickly: "Wifey, look up."
Holly Winslow looked up and saw Mortimer Quincy holding his phone, pointing it in her direction.
After the bus left, Mortimer Quincy zoomed in on the photo on his phone. The girl had a little heart over her adorably dazed face. ’She’s so damn cute,’ he thought.
He couldn’t help but let out a few low chuckles before setting the picture as his phone’s wallpaper.
