Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Can My Wife Square Dance?

Mortimer Quincy’s gaze lingered on her swaying, slender waist for a moment, his pupils constricting slightly. He suddenly asked, "Honey, do you know how to square dance?"

Hearing this, Holly Winslow faltered, nearly twisting her back.

’This guy, Mortimer, isn’t actually thinking of making me square dance at the welcoming party, is he?’

It had to be said, a woman’s intuition was frighteningly accurate. The next second, she heard the young man’s domineering voice, "Choose one: square dancing, or not going at all."

"..."

Holly Winslow held up three fingers. "Honey, first place is three hundred yuan. That’s enough for over fifty cups of bubble tea."

Seeing her adorably naive expression, Mortimer Quincy laughed in exasperation. When had he ever been short on money for her? "Three hundred yuan, is it?"

He pulled his phone out of his pocket. A moment later, Holly Winslow’s phone chimed with a text message from her bank: a deposit of 10,000.00 yuan.

"Is that enough for bubble tea?"

Holly Winslow: "..."

’What’s it like having a rich, top-student husband?’

Suddenly, she pounced on him, wrapping her arms around his neck and jumping forcefully to lock her legs around his waist. Then, she opened her mouth and bit his cheek, huffing, "Mortimer Quincy, you’re ’insulting’ me with your money."

Mortimer Quincy supported her by the waist and backed her against the wall. Without another word, he lowered his head and kissed her.

Caught off guard, Holly Winslow let out a soft "Mmph," tightening her arms around his neck.

After two or three minutes, Mortimer Quincy finally let her go. He stared at her swollen lips, a flicker of satisfaction in his eyes.

"So, honey, you are not allowed to dance in front of all the boys at school."

Holly Winslow: "..."

Mortimer Quincy held her for a moment longer before setting her down. He said gently, "Honey, I’ll help you pick a video."

Holly Winslow: "..."

...

At 8:46, Anna Willow and Iris Kensington received the dance video Holly Winslow had sent.

Anna Willow: "..."

Iris Kensington: "..."

"Holly, as much as I don’t want to dance, I haven’t sunk so low as to do some auntie’s square dance."

Holly Winslow glanced at Mortimer Quincy, who was watching her like a hawk, and guiltily typed out a message. "This one is simpler. We can change some of the moves later so it won’t look like a square dance. Besides, renting costumes for a classical dance is too expensive."

Anna Willow: "That’s true."

Iris Kensington: "Let’s just go with this one then. I have a feeling that three hundred yuan is out of our reach."

Holly Winslow put down her phone and shot Mortimer Quincy a plaintive look, protesting in a small voice, "Honey, who square dances at a welcoming party?"

Mortimer Quincy laughed indulgently. He pulled a piece of candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth. "You look beautiful no matter what you dance, honey."

That sentence worked wonders on Holly Winslow. "I’ll give you that, you’re a sweet-talker."

...

「After cram school on Sunday morning.」

Mortimer Quincy took Holly Winslow’s backpack and slung it over his shoulder. "I have a speech competition in the county center this afternoon. Want to come?"

Holly Winslow thought for a moment. Iris Kensington had said she had a date with Chris Chaucer this afternoon, and Anna Willow was going to her art class, so they probably wouldn’t be going shopping together.

"Okay."

The two of them grabbed a casual meal out, then went back to Holly Winslow’s place to drop off her things before heading to the Quincy family home.

Mortimer Quincy needed formal wear for his speech. He changed into a dress shirt and slacks, then casually held out his arm to Holly Winslow. "Honey, do the buttons."

Holly Winslow had done this many times before. She skillfully buttoned his cuffs and straightened his collar.

Suddenly, a large pair of hands grasped her waist. The next second, a warm pressure touched her lips, then quickly departed. "You’re the best, honey."

Holly Winslow giggled. "It’s because the money was right," she joked.

The two of them were lovey-dovey at home for another ten minutes or so before leaving to take a cab to the county center.

They arrived in about ten minutes. It was still half an hour until two o’clock.

Mortimer Quincy saw Holly Winslow rubbing her hands together, so he took her hand and tucked it into his pocket. Then he went and bought her a cup of hot milk to warm her hands.

The speech competition was being held in a conference room that could seat over a hundred people. About fifty or sixty students were already there, but none of the judges had arrived yet.

The aisle down the middle was very narrow. Mortimer Quincy walked ahead, but he still held Holly Winslow’s hand.

Their intimate gesture drew the attention of quite a few people.

When Zeke Zane saw Mortimer Quincy, he immediately waved his hand. "Mortimer, over here!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

As the two of them got closer, he noticed Holly Winslow behind Mortimer, with only her eyes and nose visible. Even so, he could tell she was very pretty.

’Such a public display of affection!’

’Is there no justice in this world? Bringing his girlfriend to a speech competition, of all places.’

Mortimer Quincy had Holly Winslow sit next to him, while he took the seat beside Zeke Zane, shooting him a warning glance from the corner of his eye.

The air conditioning was on in the hall, making it a bit stuffy.

Holly Winslow set down her bubble tea, took off her blue scarf, and ran a hand through her long, loose hair.

The girl’s soft black hair fell over her shoulders. Her skin was exceptionally clear, with almost no visible pores. Her almond-shaped eyes were clean and pure, giving her a natural, innocent look that was especially captivating to boys their age.

A few boys in the front row turned their heads to look at her several times. Holly Winslow recognized them as Mortimer Quincy’s classmates. She greeted them with a sweet smile, "Hello."

The boys all shouted excitedly, "Hello, cousin!"

The advanced class might sound like it was full of "nerds," but they weren’t dull at all. At their age, they still liked playing video games, watching TV, and looking at pretty girls.

One of the boys extended his hand toward Holly Winslow. "Cousin, my name’s Pantheon. Just call me Payne."

Mortimer Quincy slapped his hand away. "Keep your paws to yourself," he warned.

Pantheon didn’t get angry, which showed that he was on pretty good terms with Mortimer. He just chuckled and said, "Mortimer, don’t be so stingy. Your cousin is our cousin."

’But she’s not his cousin, she’s Mortimer’s girlfriend!’

After adding that thought in his head, Zeke Zane kindly intervened. "Pantheon, shut your trap. Shouldn’t you be memorizing your speech?"

Mortimer Quincy considered the matter of Holly Winslow’s school transfer. It wasn’t a good time to clarify their relationship, or she might not be placed in the same class as him.

For the sake of his future happiness, he decided to endure it for now. He turned to Holly Winslow and patted her on the head. "Ignore them. Just drink your bubble tea."

Holly Winslow nodded.

"Cousin, you’re so cute!" Pantheon draped himself over the back of his seat, brazenly complimenting her again.

Holly Winslow: "..."

"Pantheon, one more word out of you and I’m telling Old Shaw you climbed the school wall last week to go play video games," Mortimer Quincy said, glancing at him.

Pantheon: "..."

He dejectedly turned around and sat back down properly.

Just then, a female voice spoke up. "Is anyone sitting here?"

The voice sounded a little familiar. Holly Winslow turned her head and saw a girl in a white woolen dress. The furry collar made her skin look very fair, and she had the endearing look of a little white rabbit.

She couldn’t immediately recall where she’d heard the voice before. "No one’s here. You can sit," she said.

Zeke Zane gave an unnatural cough and offered, "Cousin, how about I switch seats with you?"

Holly Winslow gave him a serious look. She’d heard from Mortimer that Zeke Zane had a girlfriend before he was with Anna Willow, but he’d been dumped.

She took a sip of her bubble tea. "I’ll just stay here. The view is good."

Zeke Zane shot Mortimer Quincy a look that said, ’I did my best, bro. This is all I can do for you.’
