Chapter 60: Called the wrong name.

The rooms in this mansion were well-proportioned. The gray and black color scheme created an exceptionally calm and sophisticated atmosphere, while the floating staircase connecting each floor lent a fresh, uniquely upscale decorative style.

Crystal chandeliers swayed overhead, making it feel like living in an art gallery.

The guest room Xu Si occupied was spacious. A dark coffee-colored leather sofa and soft, plush cushions defined the lounge area. Behind it stood a miniature floating staircase, with an expensive piano nestled underneath. The expansive, floor-to-ceiling gridded windows made a striking design statement and overlooked the entire Triad Society district.

Even with the door ajar, the sheer size and layered layout of the space provided a sense of security.

So tired. I really didn’t close the door properly just now.

Xu Si rubbed her throbbing forehead, feeling a film of fine, clammy sweat.

Unable to stand the stickiness, she got up from the soft bed, picked up the sexy nightgown, slipped into a pair of fluffy slippers, and wandered drowsily into the bathroom, her cascading hair swaying with her steps.

She took a warm bath. When she slipped into the silky nightgown, its scant fabric clung to her smooth, exquisite body. The languid, upward tilt of her eyes added a hint of allure to her otherwise cool demeanor.

She opened the bathroom door, and a gentle floral fragrance wafted out.

Somewhat more alert, she wanted to quickly find a place to call Anshi. But amidst that fragrance, she detected a faint trace of whisky—subtle, yet startling enough.

Almost certain. There was someone else in the room.

Xu Si held her breath, which had become somewhat erratic. Her shimmering eyes darted instinctively towards the lounge area.

Under the ivory light, the silver-haired man sat motionless on the deep brown sofa. His long legs were casually stretched out as if he were asleep. He wasn’t wearing the mask that usually concealed his entire face. To avoid the light, a wide silver ribbon was tied over his eyes, blending seamlessly with his long, silver-white hair.

The exposed lower half of his face revealed the faint outline of his nose and his slightly parted, reddish lips.

His high-quality black clothing was slightly open, revealing a chest as flawless as white jade, its muscular definition looking incredibly inviting to the touch.

Xu Si felt her blood thrumming slowly, her gaze fixed on the man’s face.

Handsome men all share certain traits.

She had never seen this man from such an angle but found him vaguely familiar.

She wasn’t sure.

Kicking off her slippers, she tiptoed closer, intending to reach out and remove the silk ribbon obscuring his eyes.

The rain outside grew heavier, falling relentlessly, and the night air was cool. Her hand hovered in mid-air, just about to make contact when, in the dim light, she saw the man on the sofa suddenly curve his lips into a smile.

Instantly, the man’s cool, slender hand grasped her wrist. She was roughly pulled into a hard, fiery embrace. Effortlessly, without even moving his head an inch, his large hand firmly pinned her against him.

Before Xu Si could even speak, the muzzle of a gun pressed against her lower back, a silent warning to behave.

The man’s smiling lips parted slightly. His breath, so close it brushed against her, brought a faint, tingling sensation.

"What do you want to do? Look at my face?"

His alertness was beyond ordinary comprehension. Xu Si hadn’t even touched him, yet he had sensed her—a feat difficult to imagine achieving.

The ends of Xu Si’s hair, still damp with moisture, pressed against the man’s smooth, firm chest. Listening to his steady heartbeat, she felt extremely frustrated.

She had indeed been swayed by curiosity and attraction. A man who never showed his face yet possessed such perfect lips and chin made her yearn to see the full, stunning sight of him.

Her expression remained calm. After a long pause, she replied, "Yes, I haven’t seen a man as handsome as you on Hong Kong Island, so I really did want to look. I’m sorry, that was presumptuous of me."

Uttering this flattering phrase, Xu Si felt not the slightest bit guilty.

She rarely used the word "perfect" to describe someone’s physique or face, but this man was just that: long legs, a narrow waist, defined collarbones, and perfectly toned muscles.

Moreover, now that she was relying on his hospitality, it was essential to maintain good relations. Otherwise, this capricious man might throw her out tomorrow. Where else could she find a safe place?

The man seemed quite pleased. He tapped his fingers on the gun’s grip, his tone lazy. "Spoken like a true businesswoman—flexible indeed."

Seeing he had no intention of letting go, and unable to retreat, Xu Si simply found a more comfortable angle to lean against him. The feel of his body alone seemed far superior to the male models paraded by wealthy women at gatherings in her past life. A freebie, she thought.

"Just telling the truth," she said, gazing steadily at the suspended chandelier, a perfunctory smile on her lips. "So, why are you in my room? Drank too much? Lost your way?"

"Your room?" The man lifted a hand to his head as if troubled, chuckling softly. "Not sure. Maybe I got drunk and wanted to see if you’d run off."

His last words were especially soft, his voice carrying a natural resonance, more ethereal than the night breeze.

"Then you can rest assured," Xu Si replied calmly. "I won’t run. Bullets don’t have eyes, and I value my life quite a bit."

The man hummed softly, his voice vague and languid. "Good. Then stay with me."

After that, he made no further sound, seemingly deeply intoxicated. Xu Si also turned her head to quietly admire the rainy view outside the window.

In the Underground City, the temperature difference between day and night was stark. At night, a thick fog would roll in from the sea, gradually enveloping the city. As the night deepened, the fog would become so dense it obscured the sky, blotting out all light, while the temperature plummeted.

Amidst the pitter-patter of the rain, Xu Si suddenly remembered that intoxication often leads to regressed thinking.

Now might be a good time to ask for the gun. She tilted her chin, mulling over her words for a long time. Finding none satisfactory, she decided to be direct and reached out to tug at his sleeve.

"Lord Hei Shi, may I ask you for something?"

"..."

Rain trickled down the expansive lattice-paned windows.

The man remained motionless, showing no reaction. Thinking he was asleep, she gently shook his arm. Seeing his eyebrows lift slightly, she spoke again:

"Lord Hei Shi, this place isn’t very safe. Before you get what you want, you probably wouldn’t want me dead either. So, about that gun from before, could I borrow it?"

"..."

The air was quiet, filled only with the sound of the rain. No one responded.

Xu Si raised an eyebrow and frowned deeply. She hesitated, took a deep breath, and then... hesitated again.

A long silence followed. Then, the man’s fingertips twitched, his lips set in a straight line as he let out a long sigh.

"Miss Xu, you’ve even got my name wrong. How do you expect me to help you?"

He knew her name. Xu Si wasn’t surprised by that.

But his claim that Hei Shi wasn’t his name did surprise her. Because Chen Mo had clearly said that day—she recognized Lord Hei Shi. In the entire Underground City, the only people she had encountered twice were this silver-haired man and the bald one. In any setting, people always referred to the highest-ranking leader by their title. The bald man was this silver-haired man’s subordinate. How could she have gotten it wrong?
