Reborn Heiress: Seeking Revenge-Chapter 679 Shared Life and Death (3)_1
Within the stone layers, Shangguan You’s voice came through, along with several heavy thuds, making the entire space tremble even more.
"Girl, rest assured, we’ll take care of things here."
"Exactly. As long as I have a breath left in me, I will never let them escape and join with those things outside," Shangguan Zhi spoke solemnly, his palm wind sweeping out, instantly toppling a swath of insects.
Facing the onslaught of the group, the insects simply divided a portion of themselves to deal with them, while the rest surged against the thick ice layer above, attempting to break through the ice and enter the earth beyond.
"These creatures are clever, even resorting to tactics." Bai Muxue laughed. Her white figure floated into the air like a fairy, her hands unleashing powerful Spiritual Energy as she struck into the dense swarm of insects.
SQUEAK! SQUEAK! SQUEAK! These sounds echoed continuously. Shangguan Qing threw a handful of powder from her hand, causing countless insects to stiffen and die on the ground. At the same time, even more insects surged out, quickly consuming the corpses on the ground.
"They’re formidable; everyone be careful. Don’t get separated, and most importantly, don’t let them bite you." Shangguan Hao and Shangguan Yu moved forward in unison, setting afire the items they had just prepared and burning through the insects. The space was filled with a pungent burning odor amidst the continual SQUEALING.
But for every group burned and beaten to death, countless more insects crawled over from the wall.
"’Their hiding place must be back there. They’re able to come from there because Shangguan girl can’t hold them back. That’s why we must quickly deal with these creatures to help Shangguan girl,’ Old Qi said, his Compass spinning rapidly. Frowning, he shouted loudly and, fighting alongside Qi Zhuochen, annihilated the surrounding insects so thoroughly that not even ashes remained."
Compared to the fierce battle within the strata, Yu Zifeng and the others on the surface had a much easier time. With their superior numbers and armed with what Shangguan You had given them, they saw the dense crowd and remained hidden behind them. They discreetly sprinkled a handful of powder into the air, quickly bringing down the red-eyed crowd, who dared not move an inch afterwards.
Everyone did as Shangguan You had instructed, keeping as far away from young master Ye as possible. Even upon seeing the people from the Hidden World Village, they quickly retreated to another location. Although the charming few were eager to approach and engage with the people of the Hidden World Village, no matter what they wanted to do, their bodies would automatically run away.
After several instances, even the slowest realized that Shangguan You had placed a spell on them for everyone’s safety. They could only act according to Shangguan You’s will; if they wanted to resist or had other thoughts, their bodies would refuse to obey their own commands.
All these events took place in secret, while the furious crowd was taken down in waves. Meanwhile, Shangguan You faced an even more difficult battle within the layers of stone.
Just a wall apart, yet entirely different situations. In contrast to Bai Muxue and the others facing mere insects, Shangguan You’s situation could be considered dire.
In the original chamber, Lin Mengjie hovered in mid-air, surrounded by a brilliant aura. Powerful waves of Spiritual Energy surged from her body, causing death and injury wherever the light touched. To her left, the thick ice layer sealing a crack had been breached again. Emerging from it were not only insects but also countless half-human, half-insect monsters, similar to young master Ye.
Adjoining the left wall, countless Man-Eating Flowers and Golden Insects gleamed as they intermittently burrowed out from a small crack in the upper left corner. The entire left passage had been bored through completely, damaging even the connecting corridors in all four directions.
Upon entering this space, Shangguan You had used the Clairvoyance Spell to inspect its structure. She saw dense swarms of insects to the left and Man-Eating Flowers to the right. Above her were Golden Insects, and below lay the Guardian’s Crystal Coffin. One side was pitch-black and completely obscure. The remaining side, naturally, was where Shangguan You and the others currently stood.
And Lin Mengjie was the Guardian of this facet. When it was under heavy assault, she naturally had to block it to prevent those things from entering. When Lin Mengjie saw Shangguan You and young master Ye, she was momentarily overjoyed. But when she sensed the people outside, her eyes held a touch of anger. Those people outside... letting them come here, isn’t that just sending them to their deaths?
"Mummy, Daddy, I told Grandpa that I wanted to be with you, through life and death. I am willing to be with Mummy, so here I am." Shangguan You’s figure flashed, and she was already standing beside Lin Mengjie.
"Young master Ye, take this. Don’t hold back against these things; just hit them hard," Shangguan You said, tossing him a Sky-Piercing Cannon from her storage space to guard a corner.
"Okay, rest assured." Young master Ye nodded, aimed the cannon at the vine of a Man-Eating Flower trying to squeeze through, and with a thunderous boom, the Man-Eating Flowers and Golden Insects were blasted into dust.
Young master Ye’s hands tingled from the vibration. He looked at the powder floating in the air with disbelief, a touch of fear creeping into his heart. In the Hidden World Village, he had once crossed Shangguan You—if this cannon had been aimed at him then, he would have died hundreds of times over.
"Watch out, your feet!" someone called out softly. A Fire Dragon surged toward young master Ye’s feet, burning the insects there to ashes.
"Thank you," young master Ye said, quickly shaking his head to dismiss various thoughts and refocusing on the situation.
"No need for thanks." Shangguan You shook her head. The pale blue Water Element flowed from her, surging towards the newly opened passageway. I’ll block your retreat and see how you try to enter again! she thought, then uttered a command: "Ice Seal!"
At her call, the entire passageway, along with the insects emerging from it, was instantly encased in solid ice. Through the transparent barrier, Shangguan You could clearly see the mass of creatures on the other side relentlessly striking it, among them Golden Insects persistently ramming the ice with their sharp shells.
