Reborn Heiress: Seeking Revenge-Chapter 652: Imposed Memory (2)_1
"So, even though you knew Li Wanying and I had no relationship whatsoever, you still left so decisively? Was it because your heart never held a place for me, and the ’you’ from before was just a facade, right?"
"According to the original destiny, you and Li Wanying were to be husband and wife. Since I’ve altered your destiny, my departure would once again return their lives to their original course. I originally intended to take Wanyou away and erase all memories of myself from everyone’s minds, making it as if Lin Mengjie had never existed, to the point where no one could even recall me. Just as I was about to act, I never expected Lord Ye to intervene so suddenly. Coupled with my body’s weakness after childbirth, I had no choice but to leave the child with you.
"And I myself fell into a coma. Originally, once this body breathed its last, I could have truly returned to the Crystal Coffin. But Zhuge Feng’s unexpected interference changed all plans again. He exhausted his Spiritual Energy, searched for countless medicinal herbs and Spiritual Medicines, and even found an ice bed, all to barely keep me alive. And so, he kept me suspended like that for seventeen long years.
"But what Zhuge Feng doesn’t know is that the more he does this, the less likely I am to awaken. Only when this body of Lin Mengjie truly breathes its last will I genuinely awaken. Otherwise, I will never return. This was all fated by the heavens; otherwise, how could the Crystal Coffin have fallen into Shangguan You’s hands? Her body contains the Five Spirit Pearls, and she used her powerful Spiritual Energy to nourish my body, gradually repairing the damaged Spiritual Energy within me.
"The injuries within me have completely healed. Even if you hadn’t done what you just did, my body was already prepared to merge, and I would have awakened regardless," Lin Mengjie said, her voice cold. This was the true Lin Mengjie—the Lin Mengjie who had appeared before everyone previously was not the complete Lin Mengjie; that was an illusory version.
True Guardians are unfeeling and ruthless, only awakening to confront formidable enemies. At all other times, they remain in slumber. Love and affection are luxuries they cannot afford.
Lin Mengjie sought out the Shangguan Family because of the Five Spirit Pearls, but more importantly, she needed to leave behind a descendant. If her injuries proved incurable, then her bloodline would need to inherit her responsibilities. That is why, out of everyone, she chose Shangguan Hao, and why she and Shangguan Hao conceived Shangguan You.
Because Shangguan You is her descendant and a descendant of the Shangguan Family, the Five Spirit Pearls would eventually return to her body. This is the precognitive ability of a Guardian.
When Shangguan You was born, Lin Mengjie split her soul in two. One part was placed in Wanyou, creating a kind, guileless Shangguan You. But a kind soul was not what Lin Mengjie required. Therefore, she allowed Wanyou to experience the full spectrum of human nature, to understand the depths of human malice. Only after Wanyou died, carrying a lifetime of resentment, could that part of the soul return to Shangguan You’s body. Only then would Shangguan You’s blood truly awaken the space on her hand. That is the true Shangguan You.
The true fusion of these two soul-parts would give rise to Lin Mengjie’s true daughter. None of this was coincidental. Before Lin Mengjie fell into a coma, she had already arranged everything for Shangguan You. Shangguan You even managed to unseal the Spatial Bracelet on her wrist, something Lin Mengjie herself could not do.
"You wanted to erase all our memories of you?" Hearing Lin Mengjie’s words, Shangguan Hao’s voice involuntarily rose, betraying his agitation. The longing he had suppressed deep in his heart for seventeen years now seemed like a cruel joke, causing this iron-willed man to lose his composure once more.
"I never belonged here in the first place. My presence was merely a forced memory upon you. I was simply setting you back on your original paths, making you forget things you were never meant to know." With a gentle wave of Lin Mengjie’s hands, the screen in mid-air gradually vanished, and she slowly descended to the ground. She looked at Shangguan Hao coldly.
She was devoid of affection, devoid of love. Even knowing Shangguan You was her daughter, she had just acted ruthlessly to verify if Shangguan You was indeed her true child. To her, Shangguan Hao, the Lin Family—these people were all strangers. Her mission and responsibilities did not permit her heart to soften, nor would it ever. Despite the new experiences of that brief year and Zhuge Feng’s devotion to her over the past seventeen years, she could not, and would not, accept it. She would make everyone forget that a Lin Mengjie had ever existed, that someone named Lin Mengjie had once appeared in their lives.
"Mengjie, do you realize how cruel your actions are?" Zhuge Feng’s tall figure took a few steps forward, gazing at the unattainable Lin Mengjie before him. He would rather cling to those memories, even if they were of a deception, than forget her completely.
"Zhuge Feng, I have seen everything you’ve done over the past seventeen years, all the kindness you’ve shown Shangguan You. But it is impossible between us. Shangguan You is fated to have no further connection with you. You have your own life to live." Lin Mengjie’s voice was not icy, yet it remained cold. "Consider this my way of thanking you." With a wave of her hands, a powerful surge of Spiritual Energy flowed into Zhuge Feng’s body.
"I don’t need you to repay me like this! I didn’t do all those things just for some useless Spiritual Energy!" Zhuge Feng roared, trying to resist the Spiritual Energy pouring into him. But Lin Mengjie was too powerful; he could only endure it.
"This is the only thing I can do for you," Lin Mengjie stated coldly. With another wave of her hands, Zhuge Feng was gently swept aside. Shangguan You clearly sensed the Spiritual Energy within Zhuge Feng’s body rapidly increasing.
"Is this your reward for my seventeen years of inadequacy?" Zhuge Feng laughed, but it was a sound filled with misery, bitterness, a sour pang, and harshness. Seventeen years of unrequited love. Now that she was awake, was it still to be unrequited? Did she truly intend to be so cruel as to make him forget her?
"Uncle Feng." Shangguan You’s eyes stung as well. Why had things turned out this way? She witnessed Zhuge Feng’s anguish but felt utterly powerless. Lin Mengjie remained an enigma to her.
"Girl, will you forget me? Will you forget the Uncle Feng who ate with you and played with you?"
