Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty.-Chapter 50: Claim your territory.
Chapter 50: Claim your territory.
"Prince Sylus..."
Sylus didn’t raise his head, but he already knew who that was.
"Alfred..." he called out as well, not a smile on his face. "Are you here to stop me?"
Standing behind Sylus like a mysterious shadow, he bowed his head.
"I’m afraid so..."
"Did Father send you?"
"..."
Sylus couldn’t help but sigh.
’Mother must have pleaded for him to interfere. But knowing Martins, I doubt that is all there is to it.’
Suddenly—
"Thank goodness you’re here! G-get this person away from me; he wants to kill me! I’ll kiss your foot if you do! Cross my heart."
Alfred replied, "Yes, Your Highness, that is why I’m here."
"Hahah! Can’t do anything now, huh? Sylus? How does it feel to know I am about to go scot-free? Just you wait, I will hunt you for the rest of your damn life!"
Looking at him, Sylus could feel nothing but disgust.
He was so irritated, he didn’t realize he had begun to sink the dagger even deeper into Lucas’s skin.
Not until Lucas began begging Alfred to step in.
Although what Lucas got in return was far different from what he was expecting.
With a calm voice, he said,
"I think there might be some misunderstanding. I was sent to stop the third prince from killing you, but that was about it."
Both Sylus and Lucas looked at Alfred.
"...You are not to die in the forest, but you are still to face punishment from the king."
Horror instantly glued to Lucas’s features.
"NO, no! Father was the one who sent you? Not Mother? Alfred, you have to help me; you can’t let—"
Bang!
Sylus got tired of hearing him speak and sent a straight jab to his face that instantly rendered him unconscious.
"I can’t stand people who talk too much."
Now standing to his feet, Sylus faced Alfred. "What does Father intend to do to him?"
"I was not told. I can only pray it isn’t something that traumatizes the prince too much."
"I see. Very well, then."
There was no point in arguing; Sylus couldn’t care less.
With slow, steady steps, Sylus finally stopped in front of the sword.
Taking a closer glimpse at the sword, it did look like something used by an ancient god or so.
Just from touching the handle, Sylus could tell it was made of pure gold.
A sword like this would cost a fortune; it’s a surprise no one has tried to steal it from the forest yet.
While Sylus was standing close to the sword, Zani showed herself from behind, dragging the unconscious body of Terrance on the ground as she walked.
"Master Alfred, what are you doing here?" she asked, before tossing Terrance’s body to the side.
Shifting his gaze in her direction, Alfred smiled. "You’ve gotten quite strong, Lady Zani. I can already see you becoming a knight of the kingdom. You fought splendidly."
"T-thank you. Where is Lord Sylus?"
Alfred pointed to the front.
Following the direction, the first thing she saw was Lucas lying unconscious on the ground, and then, further up, was Sylus, standing in front of the stone with his back turned.
Before she knew it, she was already smiling.
A proud look on her face.
"He won..."
Right before their very eyes, Sylus pulled out the sword from the stone.
A single pull was all it took.
It was that easy.
He rested the sword on his shoulder and turned around.
"Victory, uhn..." he grinned.
Zani smiled back, Alfred doing the same.
...
Once they were done, they made their way out of the forest.
Alfred was stuck carrying Lucas, while Sylus had to keep Zani from constantly checking him for injuries.
On their way back, they ran into Erica and Gilgath.
When they finally reached the hill, Sylus and Erica were pulled into long, tight hugs by their mother, who was in tears and overwhelmed with relief.
Martin stood nearby, proud that Sylus had won the Adon Vale.
No one paid Lucas any attention. He was still unconscious.
And since it was already midnight, most people agreed to return to the royal castle.
The final trial would be held the following day, when the siblings would be granted their earned territories.
...
The following day...
Everyone who participated in the Adon Vale was present before the king in the throne room.
Except Lucas, who no one had seen since last night.
Standing in a line alongside their Mysterio, Sylus and Erica paid attention to their father.
Martin was seated on the throne, Elizabeth right beside him, while Alfred stood at the side.
In his hands were a bunch of papers, probably containing the contracts and documents of the land they were going to be given.
’It’s finally time.’
Sylus had been waiting all his life for this moment.
The moment he finally parts ways from the family and starts a life of his own.
He had always had to grow the kingdom collectively with his selfish and narrow-minded father, something he never once enjoyed doing.
Respect and reputation—those were the only reasons for him to ever try to get on his father’s good side.
If he hadn’t shown hints of his capabilities, there is no doubt his life would have been so much worse.
Having to do everything his father ordered him sounded like a nightmare.
But since he was sort of the breadwinner in the family, Martin never really got in his space; he allowed him to do as he wanted, exactly like Sylus had hoped.
Still, the secrets the family withheld from him were too much, so much so that he knew he needed to find a way to gather them himself.
Not under the same roof.
Now, with his own territory, he could do exactly what he wanted: help the people of the kingdom without being directly under Martin’s control and also uncover the unknown secrets in the Astrodial family.
In truth, he couldn’t care less about the throne.
Clears throat.
Martins began.
"In accordance with the rules and regulations of the Adon Vale, Sylus, you have my permission to pick whatever land you wish to rule. There are no limits, other than you can only pick one."
Since he won the second trial, he got to pick the territory rather than being handed one at random.
Fortunately, Sylus already had a place in mind for a long time.
"As you wish, Father, I choose to rule over the town of Liyue."
