Chapter 95: Lana Meets Lotus

Cassandra was slightly befuddled as to what answer she should give to her overly sharp sister. She collected herself before speaking.

"We have different chambers as per their traditions but he does sleep here as well."

Nipping the pain that had birthed in her chest, Cassandra plastered a fake smile on her face. But this was Lotus and not someone else. She understood all her smiles.

Her eyes narrowed and bells of suspicion began to ring inside her head.

"What are you hiding, Cassandra? I got the same feeling from your letter as well. No matter how flowery language you tried to use, I understood something was wrong and now you are going to spill."

Cassandra lowered her head to hide the anguish creeping up on her face.

Lotus stepped closer to her sister and hugged her again.

"Whatever it is, you are not alone, Cas. I am with you, every step of the way."

A soft knock on the door had their attention turned towards it and Cassandra was relieved, knowing Lotus won’t let this go.

"Come in!" Cassandra granted permission. The door opened and Lana entered with all her positive energy and brightest smile.

"Nissa! Reverent guest!" She bowed with her hands clasped in front.

"Lana! Come, this is my elder sister. And Lotus, this is my second in command and my Beta woman, the one I wrote about in the letter."

"It’s an honour to have you here, Princess Lotus," Lana solemnly treaded closer and Lotus offered her hand.

Slightly bewildered, she stole a tentative glance at her Nissa. Cassandra nodded at her in approval. She slowly shook it.

"The honour is all mine, you people accepted me. Not that I would have created havoc if I wasn’t let in," Lotus shrugged her dainty shoulders making the girls laugh.

"Lana is the one who sent my letter," Cassandra added further, and Lotus’s smile widened.

"I appreciate that, thank you for looking out for my sister."

"It’s my duty; I will always stand by Nissa’s side," Lana softly smiled.

"She is my confidant, my guide, I have learnt so much from her," Cassandra was all praises for her Betawoman.

"My sister deserves the best," Lotus answered, continuing to fan herself. Lana observed how her cheeks were burning due to the hot weather she was not accustomed to. Her long frilled gown was sticking to her skin. The silky material was not helping either.

"I have brought cold water. Let me help you wash up and change into something light."

Lotus’s face bloomed like the flower she was named after and she wished to kiss Lana in that instant.

"You are a goddess sent. Please! Drown me into some cold water," Lotus dramatically squealed.

"In a minute. I have just the material." Lana rushed outside to fetch everything for Lotus.

Soon, Lotus was relaxed sitting inside the cold water bathtub with some cooling crystals, relaxing tonics and bath oils.

"Ahh! This feels so good against my skin. Lend me some of these relaxing oils when I leave. It feels like all the knots in my back have been unknotted. They indeed have magical effects." Lotus was all praises as Lana tenderly washed her light brown locks which almost appeared blonde.

"You have such soft hair, Princess Lotus," Lana commented. The desert conditions usually turned hair rough no matter how much they tried to take care of them. The sand granules were always in their locks.

"I have some very talented maids who take extra care of my hair. I love them. I always gave Cassandra tips too, but she likes to keep them wild," Lotus told Lana in a matter-of-fact tone, making Lana bite her lip and Cassandra to grin.

After Lotus sat in the bathtub for an hour, they helped Lotus wash up and change into a soft lime-shaded gown with straps.

"This is comfortable." Lotus took a twirl and enjoyed the texture against her skin.

They headed down for the supper.

Siroos had asked the women of the pack to prepare a proper feast for their guests. Both sisters walked side by side as they entered the common area, and Lotus was left stunned by the natural beauty.

Conglomeration of minerals was reflected by the torches and lanterns. The well sat snugly in the center of the area and there were long tables at the sides for the meal.

"Come!"

Cassandra guided her sister forward towards their table. Haylia, Siroos and Razial were already sitting in their designated seats. Razial was sitting right beside Haylia and was making polite conversation.

Haylia’s attention was diverted towards Lotus as she saw them approach and stood up to greet her.

"I am Cassandra’s mother-in-law. Welcome to our lands. I wish I had known you were visiting and would have made proper arrangements beforehand." Picking up the marigold garland she had gotten ready in the nick of time, she placed it around Lotus’s neck.

"Thank you! I am honoured by your hospitality," Lotus graciously answered, trying to understand the kind of woman Haylia appeared to be. She was extremely calm and polite. Something always simmered under such people.

"Please! Grace us with your presence," Haylia offered, a steady smile remaining saturated on her lips.

Lana pulled the chair back for Lotus and helped her settle beside Cassandra.

Siroos gestured to the pack ladies and they quickly filled the goblets with the finest wine.

Lotus and Razial picked up their containers and took small sips of the sharp wine.

"I hope your journey was comfortable?" Haylia questioned, as she indicated with her eyes towards the females and food began to be brought out.

"It was not an easy journey. Your pack seems to be on the other side of the world," Lotus refused to sugar coat her words making others laugh aloud. Just like Siroos, she was straightforward.

Tenderly glazed deer ribs with almond rice, whole roasted lamb on fire and freshly baked bread with Camel stew. The enticing aroma of the delicious food filled the whole common area, making Razial and Lotus’s mouth water. Their stomachs even growled seeing such lavishly cooked meals.

"Please! Dig in." Siroos requested with a slow smile, his hand spreading out towards the food. Lotus instantly reached for the glazed ribs and delicately placed them on her plate when she heard a boyish chuckle behind her.

"Whom do we have here today?"
