Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan-Chapter 194 - 165: The Gods’ Restrictions, Eve of the Giant Demon Fleet’s Assault
In the space of consciousness, Lince felt as if he were in a higher dimension.
He looked down at a series of sliding, mirror-like screens, watching the scenes unfold within: the furious roars of Demon Beast wars, the urgent shouts of Knights charging toward villages and towns, and more.
An intangible, inhuman, almost god-like realization slowly began to dawn on him.
The ascension of his life had allowed him to transcend the bounds of ordinary existence. The sight of countless beings fighting for his sake naturally began to crystallize a kind of Divinity-like mindset and thoughts.
The insignificance of life, and his own ’greatness’.
It all seemed so real.
’Perhaps those at the pinnacle of power in the real world have similar epiphanies.’
’Watching the whole world, with countless ordinary people scurrying between cities like busy ants, I wonder what kind of mindset those in power have.’
’Whether they choose to build a better world for their people or to pursue their own selfish desires... it all comes down to a single thought.’
And wasn’t it the same for Lince now, using the power of the Oakland Continent to conquer the Karte Continent?
Lince now possessed the power of choice.
’Even the smallest decision was his to make.’
But compared to the affairs of the mortal world, or even the real world...
...Lince no longer cared for much.
His current goal, his sole focus, was to pursue the immense, Moon-sized power of the Space Dragon from the cutscene.
If possible, he wouldn’t even actively interfere with the real world at all.
His core strategy was to use the Game World as his foundation and slowly expand his influence.
He didn’t seek fame across worlds of countless civilizations, but he was determined to at least become capable of handling the ’Black Flame’ crisis on the Oakland Continent.
And to resolve the ’Black Flame’ crisis, the level the Space Dragon had achieved would be far from enough.
This would likely require the power of the True Game.
Step by step, he would anchor himself to different worlds. Under the banner of either conquest or salvation—rescuing countless beings from their suffering—he would seize more opportunities to grow.
Lince had long been clear on this point.
But for now, Lince’s primary task was to first seize the Karte World. Otherwise, nothing else could be certain.
With his Saint Tier power, and even backed by the strength of the entire Oakland Continent, Lince’s Power in this world was clearly sufficient.
As long as no Deities showed themselves, with Lince’s own absurd level of strength...
...what Saint Tier could possibly stand against him for even a single exchange?
And as for the risk of Deities making a Descent at great cost, Lince currently had two countermeasures.
First, if he could snowball his power fast enough and truly step into the Saint Tier, he would have the strength to contend even with Deities.
Second, in that strange Spiritual Space, the God of Truth and Knowledge was drawing ever closer to him. If he could resurrect this deity, Lince would have a powerful ally.
As for the God of Truth and Knowledge posing a threat to him, that was a concern he could completely dismiss.
For whatever reason, the God of Truth and Knowledge could never be his enemy. He didn’t even need to think hard about it.
With these thoughts in mind, Lince was naturally full of anticipation for the coming battle for the Carter Continent.
’I’m swimming against the tide. Let’s see what the Giant Demon Empire has in store for me!’
——————
Meanwhile, just as Lince was preparing to launch a new campaign against the Giant Demons of Carter World, a massive Giant Demon Fleet on an expedition at sea finally approached its destination five days later.
Above the Giant Demon Fleet, aboard its Airships, numerous High Tier Giant Demons flew back and forth high in the sky.
At a certain point, after all the High Tier Giant Demons had returned to the flagship’s Airship...
...one of the Giant Demons exclaimed with delight:
"We’ve been out for so long, but we finally found it! Haha!"
"That Human Race survivor base is about ’one hundred and twenty nautical miles’ east of our fleet. The island’s size is a near-perfect match for the one in our intelligence."
"It looks unremarkable, but that giant silver tree on the island gave them away."
Hearing this, the faces of the other Giant Demons lit up with joy.
"Good! Excellent! That really wasn’t easy."
"Our stronghold on the continent was destroyed this time. It would be a disaster if we can’t make up for some of our losses at the expense of these human survivors."
This Giant Demon had a real knack for touching a sore spot.
At the mention of their city on the continent being destroyed, the faces of all the Giant Demons present soured.
Amid the silence, one Giant Demon couldn’t help but speak up.
"I just don’t get it. The Empire Gods have this world under their control, so how can the power of an Otherworld penetrate the planet’s barrier of laws and open a Space Gate in the mortal realm first?"
"I have no idea what our Empire Gods are doing all day. And look at us now, the Empire is probably facing the dilemma of a two-front war."
The High Tier Giant Demons clearly had few reservations about criticizing the Deities of the Giant Demon Empire, saying whatever was on their minds.
"It is rather baffling."
"Even if our Empire Gods haven’t fully mastered this world’s laws, they should at least have some room to maneuver, right?"
"By manipulating the world’s laws, they should, in theory, be able to prevent any alien civilization from opening a transport Space Gate within the planet. Even if the enemy locked onto this world, they should have had to open their gate in the Star Realm."
"First, a war between deities, then a war in the mortal realm. That’s practically a fundamental rule for any world with Deities."
"But what happens? Our great Empire Gods aren’t even dead yet, and this world’s laws are as if they were completely undefended, easily breached by the enemy. And now we have this massive invasion by an Alien Race."
"It gives me a headache just thinking about it."
Other Giant Demons chimed in with their complaints. They were thoroughly and completely dissatisfied with the Empire Gods.
"Alright, that’s enough from all of you."
"Complaining is useless right now. We can only wait and see how the Empire’s higher-ups plan to fix this."
"However, based on the reports we’ve received, the situation isn’t too dire."
"After all, the war in the mortal realm has been going on for days, yet the Empire Gods in the Star Realm have yet to detect any signs of this alien civilization’s deities attempting an incursion."
"That’s one silver lining in all this."
"From the looks of it, the enemy civilization’s Deities are likely not too strong or too numerous."
"They’re wary of the number and strength of our Empire Gods, but they probably don’t want to abandon our world after having found it."
"If that’s the case, then this war in the mortal realm might just be an initial probe!"
"Who knows, the Deities on both sides might have to settle things in the mortal realm to determine the victor."
"They know they probably can’t defeat our Empire Gods in the Star Realm, so they plan to face our Deities within the restrictive laws of the mortal realm. You have to admire their audacity and strategy."
"But they’re being far too arrogant. Even if our Empire has yet to produce any New Gods in this world, there are surely plenty of beings who have reached the Demigod realm here."
"Once those Otherworldly Deities and Demigods make their Descent into our mortal realm, the suppression from the world’s laws they face will be immense. Our Demigods, on the other hand, are protected by this world’s laws. Even if their strength is somewhat suppressed for being ’gods,’ their Power in the mortal realm will be no weaker than those unknown Otherworldly Deities."
"Therefore, these Otherworldly Deities are doomed to fail against our Empire Gods."
The Giant Demon who spoke analyzed the situation seriously, ultimately reaching a conclusion that greatly boosted everyone’s morale.
The Empire still held the dominant position of power in this world; the Otherworld civilization’s ambitions would be for naught.
However, another Giant Demon scoffed at this analysis.
"You think the Otherworldly Deities haven’t thought of that?"
"They are, after all, a civilization that managed to circumvent this world’s laws and open a Space Gate within it."
"Even if they’re a bit weaker than the Empire Gods, they must have their own unique advantages."
"There are countless Races and civilizations in the Star Realm. Who’s to say that all Deities are incapable of avoiding the direct suppression of a world’s laws?"
The Giant Demon who had spoken before snorted at this rebuttal.
"You clearly don’t understand what Deities are."
"According to the divine stargazing analysis from the Empire’s Divine Academy..."
"...in any world that possesses Mana Magic Power, any Deity who enters another civilization’s world will inevitably be suppressed by that world’s laws."
"The only exception is if a Deity’s Power far surpasses the power that governs an entire world’s laws, allowing them to violently destroy the Mana Planet’s will."
"But if that were to happen, the living planet would cease to be alive."
"The planet’s fundamental ’Will’ would fall, the Star Core would cool, and all life would be extinguished. What’s the point of conquering a world like that?"
"Regarding the Mana Will, there can’t be much difference among the various worlds in the Star Realm. After all, the planetary worlds themselves exist within an even larger world. The survival of all living beings and their planets naturally share certain common principles."
"As for active planetary worlds without Mana Magic Power, those exist too. But according to the Deities’ speculations at the Divine Academy, the lifeforms on such worlds would be extremely weak. Conquering them would be pointless."
"Aside from adding some dispensable low-level labor, it would be of no benefit to the Empire’s overall development."
This Giant Demon was quite knowledgeable, clearly one who had ’read’ a lot.
He left the other Giant Demon completely speechless.
Just then, a figure suddenly appeared on the flagship.
The expressions of all the Giant Demons present immediately turned serious, and they bowed solemnly to the newcomer.
"Greetings, Lord Governor."
The Giant Governor looked coldly at the High Tier Giant Demons before him.
He nodded indifferently.
"Enough with the nonsense. Due to the incident on the continent, and since we’ve now found our destination, I will no longer conceal my presence."
"Next, you will all follow me in a direct assault on that survivor stronghold. I expect this battle to go smoothly. We are merely dealing with a single, disgraced Saint Tier Professional."
"Make it quick!"
"Prepare yourselves!"
As the Giant Governor finished speaking, the High Tier Giant Demons all responded at once.
"As you command."
