Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate-Chapter 80: The White Bunny Again
Chapter 80: The White Bunny Again
Her heart panged. She longed for his touch once he was gone, taking his mouth-watering scent with him.
Cassandra stared at the jar of strawberries for a while and then hugged it to her chest. His affections she wished to believe were true and yet the doubts lingered.
The doubts that he only cared because of his pack. To keep her healthy and to be taken care of just so his pack could strive.
It stung, the reality always did.
With a sigh Cassandra placed the jar aside, having lost her appetite. Her foot collided with the bag he had left for her and she wondered what he had brought.
Grabbing the sting holding the bag close, Cassandra pulled it and widened the upper part only to peer inside.
A silver jewellery box rested inside right above a light pink dress. Cassandra extracted the jewellery box first.
It was heavy, studded with purple gemstones which sparkled under the candlelight. The box was flat and rectangular.
Cassandra traced her finger on them and then slowly lifted the lid and gazed at the contents. She was left stunned.
Inside lay a parure of the finest quality of gold with amethysts studded in them. freewebnσvel.cѳm
It was a complete set of necklace, ring, earrings, bracelet, hair ornaments and a brooch. The finesse of the pieces spoke of how intricately and with precision they had been crafted. The design was something she had never seen before and she could only imagine the trouble he must have gone through to retrieve it for her.
Her fingertips touched the glittering amethysts embedded in the dazzling element of the colour of his eyes.
She knew these pieces of jewellery were sentimental. The amethysts represented her while the gold that held them represented him.
Cassandra was lost in the beauty of this jewellery for a long time before carefully closing the lid and putting it away.
She went on to extract the dress from the bag, the material was baby-soft under the skin of her hands.
Unfolding the gown she laid it out on her mattress and observed how finely it had been created with work of thin gold threads and tiny gemstones covering the bodice.
The colour was similar to the one she had worn on their marking ceremony, the one he had torn.
’It’s so beautiful!’ She whispered in the air; the thought of him bringing something solely for her devastated her fragile heart but in a good way.
He made her feel the feelings she didn’t wish to feel.
He made her feel special and yet she knew they couldn’t be together.
They couldn’t have the kind of life the couples did. There was always going to be so much amiss.
And the way he had shattered her trust. How was she to ever trust him again, especially with her heart?
It was torn open as she clutched the dress in her hands and tears slipped out of her violet eyes and buried themselves in the dress.
The thought of never finding sincere love haunted her.
Feeling overwhelmed and suffocated, Cassandra quietly put away the dress and jewels into the cupboard and stepped out of her room.
Even if it was for a few moments she wanted to breathe freely. Tara still stood guard outside her room.
"Luna!" She acknowledged her with the subtle bow of her head. "You needed something?"
"I am just going to make a round, can’t sleep," Cassandra answered with a small sigh, moving ahead.
"Should I accompany you?"
"No, I am just around the corner." Cassandra pointed and went ahead. Siroos’s chamber was in that direction. Her feet automatically carried her towards it.
The torches burnt with small crackles in their iron stands. Long shadows of her figure were cast on the hard ground. Her feet moved with agility and the tiny bells in her anklet made low ringing sounds.
She had only taken a few steps when she saw her companion, the cute white bunny again. He was sniffing the ground with his stub of a nose, looking for food.
"Bunny!" Cassandra cried out in happiness and rushed to carry it in her arms.
The bunny stopped sniffing and sat straight on his hind legs, wanting to be carried by her. Bending down she collected him in her arms and brought him closer to her face, kissing the top of his head. She ran her fingers through his sleek fur and he closed his eyes, rubbing his face with hers.
"Aww! You are so cute. What should I name you?" Cassandra carried him in her arms, back to her room. She had found peace with the bunny last time and it had kept her company in one of the worst nights of her life. He would do it again and help her sleep.
Tara observed their Luna carrying a white bunny. She had seen it scurrying for food at night.
"That’s a cute rabbit, I have seen him around," Tara commented standing straight in her position.
"Isn’t he adorable, I wonder where he came from." Cassandra was still lovingly hugging him when she entered her room again and closed the door.
Taking him straight to her bedding with soft covers, she squatted on it and let the furry creature nestle in her lap.
"Today! I have fresh strawberries. My brute of a mate brought them for me. Would you like to taste them?" She lovingly asked and reached for the jar.
A low grunt left his small mouth but he kept staring adorably at Cassandra.
"Ohh! Seems like you’re hungry. Here," she offered a fresh strawberry to him and he quickly grabbed it in his front paws and began to munch on it with his tiny front teeth.
Cassandra roared in laughter at his cute actions.
"You are so adorable."
The bunny ate and Cassandra watched him in awe. Once he finished eating, Cassandra took the tiny stump from him and he snuggled in her lap. Closing his crimson eyes he rested his head on her belly and soon began to lightly snore. His belly slowly rose and fell.
With her hands on his head and belly, Cassandra found peace and soon drifted to sleep as well.
