Chapter 81: Cassandra Makes Breakfast

Siroos quietly entered his chamber.

"You are late," Faris retorted, seeing his brother arrive. He untangled his legs and stood up from Siroos’s bedding with lithe movements.

"Did someone come to check up?" Siroos questioned, closing the door of his chamber.

"Of course, they did. I kept my face turned away as Ranon gave them a glimpse of my covered back. Just be glad we look similar from the back," Faris snorted.

"Hmm!" Siroos annoyedly rubbed the stubble on his chin.

"Just hope they buy it. And you owe me 20 gold coins, let’s see that money?" Faris demanded, extending his hand, his fingers wiggled.

Siroos’s eyes disappointedly narrowed at his brother while he advised which he knew was fruitless.

"Don’t waste them to whore around, use them for something fruitful."

"Bless-o, brother. I covered your ass, don’t ask where I am going to use the money. I earned it fair and square, not elsewhere," Faris spoke in rhymes, testing his elder brother’s patience.

"And you will get it. First, get to the fields and get to work on the Saffron. You had enough outings with me."

Siroos and Faris both had travelled for the negotiations along with Ranon. But now that they were back, everyone would work in the fields to complete the harvest. They needed to dry the spice out.

"Unbelievable; wait till I complain to my sister-in-law. She will pull your ears, I hope she elongates them like an elephant." Poking his tongue out at Siroos, Faris danced on his heels and left his chamber.

Siroos could only shake his head at the mischief of his brother.

Lana lightly woke Cassandra up.

"Nissa!" She whispered.

Cassandra stretched her arms before opening her eyes and found Lana smiling down at her. Instantly she remembered her bunny and stared down into her lap.

Disappointment washed over her to see it empty.

He was gone.

"Nissa! Come for the morning meal," Lana asked.

Cassandra nodded and rose. Freshening up and putting on yesterday’s work clothes they left for the main area.

Cassandra observed that Tara had left her spot and was replaced by Ames now. The young man reverently bowed as she passed. She acknowledged him with a nod of her head.

Lana was smart, she had brought Cassandra along earlier to send a positive image.

"Alpha returned last night so I thought we would prepare breakfast for him and others. Want to lend me a hand?" Lana asked, guiding Cassandra towards their cookery.

"Sure, but be ready to be disappointed," Cassandra informed her beforehand. Lana giggled.

"Don’t worry. I have got you."

They entered the area with clay ovens and simmering pots on clay stoves. Two women were already making food while on the other side, Ranon was dicing some onions, very efficiently, one could say.

Seeing them enter Ranon quickly bowed. He had a cloth apron around his tapered waist and an ever-present smile on his face.

"Good morning! Luna."

"Good morning! You are also making breakfast?" Cassandra asked, a slow smile graced her lips.

"Yes, we brought back some onions from our trip yesterday. I wished to make some eggs with them. Would you like to try?" He hopefully asked.

"Ranon cooks some very delicious eggs," Lana praised, moving closer to her mate, and he was quick to wrap his arm around her shoulders.

"If my mate says so. Plus I always love to help her cook." His eyes gleamed with the love he held for her. Lana’s cheeks blossomed like a pink rose at his compliment and she snuggled in his touch, laying her head on his broad chest.

Cassandra could see as clear as the day how much they adored each other.

"Then teach me as well. I would like to prepare them," Cassandra asked with a gentle smile.

"It will be my pleasure," Ranon exclaimed and rubbed his hands together.

"Here! The trick to cutting is how we use the knife. Here, let me show you."

Ranon showed the technique to properly cut the onions. He never raised the tip of his knife from the wooden board he was using to chop them.

Cassandra diligently watched and was stunned to see how swiftly his chopping hand moved.

"Luna! Try it, be careful of your fingers," Ranon instructed, handing the knife to Cassandra. Lana leaned closer and adjusted her hands on the cutting board.

It was a very slow process for her but the Beta couple was extremely patient. Her onions weren’t as finely chopped as Ranon’s but for her first attempt, they weren’t entirely bad.

With Lana and Ranon’s help, Cassandra was able to make eggs with onions and tomatoes.

Lana taught her how to knead the flour in a clay thal (large-sized plate made of clay for kneading).

She guided her on how to roll out the flour into a flat bread, sprinkle it with some dill seeds and place them in the clay oven to make some soft bread.

Cassandra wiped her forehead and brows with an extra cloth. It was extremely hot and she could feel her skin melting, but she remained diligent in her work. Lana, at times, took a hand fan and aired Cassandra, seeing how red her face was from all the heat.

The oven was extremely hot so Lana took extra care that Cassandra wouldn’t burn her hands as well.

Once everything was prepared. Lana spoke in a teasing tone.

"You did well for the first time. Alpha will be overjoyed."

"Oh! I can bet all the gold coins, he will be grinning ear to ear," Ranon added, trying to break a small piece of bread and burning his fingers. Lana swatted his hand away and scolded.

"Behave! We will eat together."

"Thank you! Both of you. I would like to share the food with Ames and Tara as well. Both of them have been guarding my door, day and night. I want to repay them by some means," Cassandra requested, picking up the large plate which had freshly baked bread on it.

"Of course! Luna, I will notify them." Ranon rushed out of the cookery while Lana helped Cassandra take the morning meal towards the table designated for Alpha and his family.

Siroos had just arrived alongside Faris while Haylia was present too.

Siroos instantly halted, his broad chest heaved.

Her fragrance today had mingled with the smell of freshly baked bread and he took a deep whiff. Turning his head around the man with the gold streaked eyes found his mate.

She was carefully walking alongside Lana with a beautiful smile covering her face. Deep in conversation with her Beta female she was talking to Lana and carrying a large plate.

Cassandra turned her head and glanced in Siroos’s direction as she neared the table, their eyes met.

Curious gold with proud violet today. She felt accomplished, he could sense it through their bond.

Lana announced with a lot of zeal and zest.

"Our Luna has prepared morning meal for our Alpha and all of us, today."

Siroos tried to hide it but a very subtle grin broke out on his lips. What a pleasure it was going to be to devour the food prepared by his mate.
