Reborn as a Superpower Girl in the 80s-Chapter 798 Replacing the Hostage
Chapter 798: Chapter 798 Replacing the Hostage
By the time Lu Yichen arrived on site, he directly stuffed something into his pocket, "Replenish some energy."
In a place where others couldn’t see, Lu Yichen whispered, "Be careful for your own safety."
Luo Qiao was smart and understood that the explosion was not likely caused by a simple operational error; it might have been intentionally created by someone.
So she whispered back, "Got it, you too, be careful."
The two quickly separated and busied themselves with their respective tasks.
The search and rescue operation continued for three days, with doctors called in from hospitals across the city gradually returning to their posts. Just as these juniors and seniors were preparing to withdraw, an accident occurred.
Someone barged in, took a senior female student hostage, causing chaos on the scene. After all, they were all students, unaccustomed to such incidents.
The police evacuated the surrounding people, but they did not allow the juniors and seniors to move, threatening that if they didn’t comply, the hostage would be killed. With that, no one dared to move from their spot.
The senior female student was already pale with fear, and due to struggling earlier, blood had flowed down her neck, staining a large patch of her white coat red, which was frightening to witness.
But the perpetrator was clearly agitated, and any provocation might lead to severe consequences. The police had tried to communicate with him for a long time without success, further agitating him instead.
The hostage’s bleeding had to be stopped soon or it could be dangerous; the students crouched there, hardly daring to breathe, afraid that the perpetrator would do something irrational.
Perhaps realizing that the hostage might die and leave him with no leverage, he looked towards the group of crouching students.
At that moment, Luo Qiao saw the perpetrator’s move and slowly shifted outward, trying to move to the periphery to see if there was a chance to substitute the hostage herself.
When she reached an ideal position, as the perpetrator glanced over, Luo Qiao met his gaze and pretended to be scared, saying, "The senior has lost a lot of blood; she might not make it. Please, can you let her go?"
Then, with an appearance of timidity, "Or I could trade places with her. If she keeps bleeding, she’ll die, and then none of us will survive."
Hearing Luo Qiao’s words, the perpetrator shouted at the police, "Get me a car right now, or I’ll end it all with this girl."
The police tried to calmly respond, "The car is almost ready; please don’t harm the hostage."
Meanwhile, Luo Qiao spoke up again, "The senior has no strength left; if you take her with you it won’t be easy to escape. Let me be your hostage, and you let the senior go, okay?"
Trying to appear as innocent and harmless as possible, the perpetrator seemed swayed by Luo Qiao’s words. Apart from the hostage in his hand, he had no bargaining chips. If she were to hinder his escape later, or die before he could get away, he’d be left with only a dead end.
Because he stood behind a pillar, which shielded him from a potential sniper shot, the only exposed side was also covered by the hostage, and the perpetrator was not very tall, similar in height to the chosen hostage.
The man ordered, "Walk over here by yourself, and don’t try any tricks."
Feigning innocence, Luo Qiao said, "I just don’t want the senior to die. If I take her place as your hostage, you’ll let me go when the car comes, right?"
A look of disdain flashed across the man’s face as he responded, "Yes, once I’m in a safe place, I’ll let you go."
Luo Qiao looked up at him earnestly, "Then you have to keep your word."
The man, growing impatient, retorted, "You talk too much."
Deliberately raising a finger, Luo Qiao persisted, "One last thing, can someone bandage her up a bit later, is that okay?"
Narrowing his eyes, the man snapped, "Hurry up and come over."
Luo Qiao glanced outside and saw Lu Yichen standing at the forefront; she smiled at him and then slowly stood up. Lu Yichen’s palms were sweaty with anxiety, but he couldn’t show it.
