Chapter 34: Bait(1)

"Master... did you foresee this?" asked the man kneeling before the one he called ’master.’

The younger man grinned. "Well, kind of. I figured those idiots wouldn’t be able to kill the Pope. That’s why I sent them to attack the convoy, wearing a similar attire and in the desert. Drakes should’ve finished the job, but... his holy ass got saved."

The spy smiled faintly. "Still, you got another pawn out of your way. The Pope revealed it was Cedric who sent the assassins after Hades. Now the King knows his ’innocent’ son isn’t so innocent."

The young master rose from the couch with a chuckle. "That old fool got his life saved, and in return, he trapped Cedric. This is all going better than I expected."

The grin on his face stretched wider.

One obstacle—removed.

One—powerless for now.

One—didn’t give a crap about power and position.

Now only one remained.

"Hades," he muttered. "...he’s a tough one."

The spy offered, "Wouldn’t he get out of the way once he challenges the Prince?"

The younger man laughed. "Hades might be a hardhead, but if he really wanted to challenge Cedric, he would’ve done it already."

The spy frowned. "Then... master?"

"Don’t worry." His eyes gleamed coldly. "Just keep searching. I have a feeling... We’ll soon find something that will wipe Hades off the board completely."

....

"Fuuuuckk!"

Crash!

The table lamp shattered against the wall.

Cedric stood there, chest heaving, his face burning red with rage. His eyes darted aimlessly, glaring at nothing and everything all at once.

He couldn’t believe it.

He wouldn’t believe it.

That old bastard—that priest—had exposed him!

And his father... for the first time in his life, looked at him with nothing but disappointment.

That smug little shit, his brother, was probably somewhere laughing—mocking his fall, basking in his misery.

And now?

He had been stripped of his title.

The Crown Prince of the Empire... no more.

"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Cedric roared, clutching his hair as he paced the room in a frenzy. "I can’t take this!!"

First, the humiliation in front of everyone—especially Rinne.

And now, the entire kingdom knew...

Cedric had fallen.

He was no longer the heir.

No longer untouchable.

No longer feared.

And worst of all... he was no longer in control.

"All this...is because of that asswipe Hades!" He screamed, his mana surging through the room, making the air thick and furniture tremble.

His fists were clenched, knuckles white as he spoke through his gritted teeth,

"I will kill you....even if it is the last thing I do...I will slaughter you with my own very hands. I will rip your heart and bathe in your blood. I swear to god!"

....

"It’s about time," Rinne said, comfortably seated on his bed

It was a risky move, yes—but Hades knew Cedric was in no position to send spies after him anymore.

The academy was keeping him on a tight leash. All his influence had been stripped, and his access to mercenaries was cut off.

Right now, Cedric was just an ordinary student—with nothing to rely on but his own limbs.

"What do you mean by that, Rinne?" Hades asked, handing her a cup of water.

The silver-haired girl looked at him and said plainly, "We need to give the final push. Force Cedric to come at you recklessly. Only then can you kill him... and not be blamed."

Hades nodded slightly. He knew she was right.

Unless the Prince openly challenged him, any move he made would be treated as murder.

But if Cedric struck first—

Then it would all be fair game.

"But how are we going to pull him into this?" Hades asked, one brow arched.

Cedric wasn’t reckless. He was cautious—always choosing his opponents carefully, backing off the moment things got out of hand.

There was no way he’d just charge at Hades without a plan.

"From what I’ve seen," Rinne began, "he’s probably throwing a fit right now—smashing things, cursing the world, blaming everyone but himself. His rage is climbing. But even in that state, it’s not enough. Not enough to make him come after you."

Hades nodded. She was right.

Cedric would still calculate his risks, even through his fury.

The redhead tried to think of a way... but came up blank.

"I have one," Rinne said suddenly, a sadistic grin curling her lips.

Hades raised both brows this time. "Hmm?"

Rinne turned to him, eyes gleaming with mischief, her smile wide and full of dangerous delight.

"I know exactly how to push him off the edge. Just one spark... and he’ll lose all control. He’ll come for you."

Hades tilted his head, "What would be the reason?"

Rinne smilingly pointed her finger at herself.

"Me."
